Having met a fair few actual Nazis from Golden Dawn when I was in Greece, I have to say that punching them was never a tempting prospect. They tend to gather in droves, and I can't think of many things dumber than going up to one and punching them. Those gangs beat & stabbed enough people without being punched first. People suggesting it'd be a sensible idea to start violence against those thugs either have no idea what it's actually like to be in an environment like that (luckily for them), or they have all the self preservation instincts of a Lemming.

Jesus Christ, James was trying to add levity by making a fucking joke because there was a sort of tension generated by Jamie's thread and its locking. That doesn't make him a Nazi. And I know he isn't one. Accusing non-Nazis of being Nazis is corrosive.

In my opinion, as a site member, not as a mod, James' nazi cat thread was totally inappropriate. Joke or not. It definitely doesn't defuse the tension on this issue. At best it's a cheap try for a few +1s. *opinion here is my own view in no official capacity*

James may not break rules, and he may not be a Nazis himself, but his posting is actively cancerous. The cat thread wasn't funny or appropriate, and the fact that he thinks it is is indicative of his larger tolerance and normalization of views and actions that are actively harmful to our society.

You don't have to be out there marching with the Nazis and advocating white supremacy to be a problem. Systemically demeaning women and minorities with your words makes you a problem. Focusing on their right to speak rather than unilaterally condemning what they say and what they do makes you a problem.

If Jamie asked to be banned, then there's nothing to really say or do about it, but he's far from the biggest issue with this forum, and I don't think any of us are served by treating the behavior of the actual bad eggs as acceptable.

Jokes are not meant to be taken seriously or as a testament to someone's actual views. They are meant to be funny.

I think you're missing the point. It's not really about the joke itself. The joke is bad. It lacks taste and tact, and it reflects the shitty nature of the person who made it. The thing is that most other things he says do too.

Maybe I'm just missing what makes JY such a shitty person (I don't pay attention to the forums often) because the nazi cat joke by itself certainly doesn't qualify in my eyes.

This topic is pretty interesting. I don't agree with Jamiet's decision to ignore Zultar's request. But I do find it troubling that multiple Nazi style jokes are running rampant on the forum right now.

It just isn't a topic that is funny. I have relatives who lived their childhoods in hiding because of Nazi's. It isn't a topic that is funny to them, it's a reminder of the worst possible memories. A reminder of a time when Nazi's were trying to exterminate them. Nazi's fundamentally believe that an entire people do not deserve to live. They believe that some of my family do not deserve to live.

I have no sympathy towards these people, every single one of them could drop dead tomorrow and I would not care. They may as well not be human, wishing for genocide is inexcusable. There is nothing funny about it, your jokes are not funny, and I fully understand why Jamiet decided to leave given the attitude on the forum by many members about this conversation the past several days.

For many of you on this forum, this topic is just a history lesson, but to many people across the world, Nazi's and discussions about them are a very vivid reminder of the horrors these people suffered, the fear they lived through, and the loss they suffered. And for those people, the topic will never be funny.

Please just have some respect. Try and understand that this topic inspires rage, anger, and hatred...all justifiably so. And my side, do I personally believe that violence towards those advocating for my destruction from this planet is acceptable...yeah I do. But I am not personally advocating for it here. Just asking that you understand why Jamiet and others refuse to give ground on this topic. Because the World fought and suffered to ensure that we would never again have to bow our heads to Nazi's or people who believe in genocide. And being told not to condemn those who hold Nazi beliefs in every way possible, even violence, is simply going to fundamentally ring morally unacceptable to some people.

I know people whose relatives were lynched in brutal ways, and there are Klan sympathizers murdering black people today (I'll have to dig up the story of one of the police departments in Florida where a black kid got shot, and it later came out that several of the cops in that department were klansmen.).

So, yeah, before you leap to defend these guys, take a good hard look at who you are making excuses for

Furthermore, there are some of us who are old enough and aware enough of history to know that the Nazi party got started by Hitler with rallies just like the one in Charlottesville with not a lot more hard core members that Spencer and his folk had. Sure, people resisted and spoke out, and some took up violence against the brownshirts. Guess what? It wasn't enough, it didn't work, and 12 million people were exterminated, and between 50 and 100 milllion people died as a result of that failure.

So, still think this is some academic exercise of ungrounded philosophical principles?
