Are you really under the impression that a human has to be on board a shuttle in order to figure out what's out there? Unless everything in Alpha Centauri's system went black in the last 4.3 years, we've got a pretty decent idea of what's there already.

Do you realize how quickly astronomy has developed? It was hardly a science until about a hundred years ago. Now we're flying around millions upon millions of miles away and transmitting signals back and forth. Our "current available scientific capabilities" are only a limit today, but down the road? Doubt it.

Cryogenic is one example, it's not something we have perfected but it is something we could produce in some form in the future. There are examples of it in nature such as natural hibernation and things like water bears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tardigrade) which can go into near stasis-like comas and come out unharmed. All of this would require genetic manipulation but that's well within our grasp in the near future.

With our current technology things like Orion and Solar sails are examples of travel that can reach fractions of near light speed, the only problem is decelerating. These are hurdles in understanding to overcome but it's not like it's impossible some time in the future.

We have only found a way to get an atom at the collider in CERN to get to those speeds. We have even come close to getting to the edge of our own solar system, let alone past.

Yes, you're saying that it's never going to be possible to come into contact with extraterrestrial beings without traveling at speeds greater than the speed of light, which is wrong, and I'm pointing that out. Probably not in our lifetime, but it is foolhardy to think mankind could never reach another solar system. It would just require a generational ship: a ship that can sustain life generation after generation.
