Did Cameron do this on purpose?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/28/cameron-eu-juncker-defeat-britain-exit

His foreign policy is a total shambles but maybe he did this on purpose to accelerate the Brexit. It takes great strategic planning to bungle something this badly.

Could someone explain to me how to get the derivative of:
(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5
So [(3x^2+6x)/(2x^3+2)^5]'=.....
I've missed quite some math classes lately and I need to know how to solve this type of thing (and other things but anyway) for a test tomorrow. I could probably figure it out myself eventually, but I just don't have the time and I have quite a bit more to go through.
Would someone be willing to show me the steps I should take?

Of Kurds and Caliphates
http://news.yahoo.com/netanyahu-calls-jordan-support-kurdish-autonomy-214846630.html The ISIS today declared itself to be an Islamic State...and we'll see how long that lasts, or where that goes...meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyau called for support for the Jordanians (gee, I can't imagine why) and independence for Iraq's Kurds. Which is a more likely state to be recognized/come into being/"stick," a Kurdistan (if you will) or this ISIS caliphate? Thoughts?

B.J. Upton powers Braves past Phillies 3-2
Gerald Laird had two hits with a double and RBI for the Braves, who won for the sixth time in seven games though ending their road trip 8-3. Atlanta avenged a three-game sweep by Philadelphia June 16-18 at Turner Field.

Question for the mods:
I note we have some newish stats, like reliability rating. Ilove the idea of this. Is there some way we can set up games with a minimum reliability rating threshhold for participants? That would be a really nice way to filter out the people who join live games and then immediately quit the moment the game does not work out for them.

SRG inspired by Chaqa's...
Simple rules. Each home SC (yours or opponents) gets one build. One build for every three non home SCs. So only 26 total units at most and everyone will want enemy home SCs more than the others. Interested?

steephie22 (182 D(S))

Unless someone breaks a rule, we won't be needing mods, will we? Isn't a gentleman's agreement enough?
yebellz (729 D(G))

Why not just use a GM and play via the forum/pm/email? That was you can properly implement the variant rules, avoid any problems that can arise from building mistakes, and keep everything excluded from GR/points/records.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@abge - Not yet. Will you be so kind?
@steephie - I agree we shouldn't need one unless someone breaks the rules

FRU or FRD for non-home centers?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jun 14 UTC
Neither. Pure floor. Gotta have all three to get the build.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
26 Jun 14 UTC
That makes thing rather interesting/dangerous, as no one (save maybe Russia) has a guaranteed build for the first year. I would be in if one of Russia's home centers were counted as a non-home center (or perhaps, two non-home centers), otherwise, it would be too unbalanced.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jun 14 UTC
Um, the home centers don't count in the non home center counts. Russia isn't likely to get a triple build, but I often triple as Germany or France. So a nation that got a triple build in 01 normally would get a build in 01 here. But Russia's 4 home SCs only get him 4 units. He doesn't get a 5th until 7 SCs unless he takes someone else's home center.

We can discuss though. I'd be willing to say standard rounding applies so any double nation (typical for France) gets a build or even a ceiling so anyone who gets a non home sc in 01 gets a build, but no one is going to get two in 01.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
27 Jun 14 UTC
Ceiling seems unbalanced to me. I don't care too much about wether we round or not but I think just needing 3 non-home SCs for one extra unit works best. So that'd be what it was already.
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Jun 14 UTC
Rounded then. Get just 1 SC in spring 01, no build. Get 2 or 3, get a build. Sound fair to everyone?

7. Tolstoy?

If Tolstoy confirms, I will create the game this evening with a 10 day join and 48 hour phases. 48 is good as it gives us time on builds/disbands/retreats to check and remind each other of what we have to do. I think it will be important on retreats because some retreats will be forced disbands due to lost SCs.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
27 Jun 14 UTC
So that's 5 non-home SCs for a second build?

Just making sure everyone understands, essentially.
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Jun 14 UTC
Yep, and 8 for a third and 11 for a fourth.

But, remember you get a build for each enemy home sc you conquer. The three to one ratio is *only* for SCs that start independent. This is to encourage homeland attacks early on.

Coastal Movement
Normally, when two units make a move to each other's territories, it causes a bounce (Rhur moves to Munich while Munich moves to Rhur). However, would coasts be treated as different territories for fleets? For example, could a fleet in Spain (nc) move to MAO while another fleet in MAO moved to Spain (sc)? Same with Bulgarian coasts and Constantinople. Thanks in advance!

OK, sorry for the delay...and the continued delay--we'll start Midnight tonight. ORWELL! DICKENS! POE! TOLKIEN! Who will advance?

And a bonus question, just for schnicks and giggles--what's the first book you read after high school (or, if it was a while ago, the earliest book you can remember reading after high school?) Just curious to see what we get.
