I dislike setups as big as this though. The first few days were irritatingly hard because there were way too many people to read. But then mafia couldn't capitalise on poor early town performance because there were so many others.

Yeah our late-game play was pretty bad. I thought DO had used first-aid already for some reason? So if we missed HR we could shoot him again and then take out Kaka.

Rdrivera's lynch was a massive turning point in the game, before that we still had a decent chance at winning. Nobody was expecting him to get caught that soon. HR did a nice job picking up on that though.

I agree that this setup was way too big (I wasn't even fully caught up by the end), and adding an extra mafioso or changing town/maf power roles definitely would've helped with balance.

@bo - We weren't afraid of guns getting out because nobody was really on the right track (also there was a decent chance we had universal backup in play, which would've ruined the point of taking out the gun). We thought we'd have rdriv around to roleblock WD for a while. You were a clear, not particularly likely to be docsaved and you were also on the right track AFAIK.

And thanks to Jamiet and Chaqa... a busy game to GM. Enjoyed the flavor! (or the Flavour...)

GM'S CLOSING NOTES

At times this was a fun game to GM. I hope that at least the majority of you enjoyed it.

That said, there were a couple of things I would have done differently if I could turn back time. Hindsight is always 20/20, I guess.

First off, the setup was not completely balanced, and that's entirely my fault, for which I apologise. The initial design was for a 22 player setup. This was advanced to 25 when the sign-ups filled very quickly. At that time, Chaqa and I had a conversation about whether to add a Mafia Goon to the Mafia team to give them five, plus the traitor. I decided not to do that, for some reason. It was the wrong decision, I feel, with hindsight. Then, with 25 slots filled, Vecna made a fuss about missing the signups and I allowed him a place, taking it to 26 with still only 5 Mafia including a traitor. The adding of a 26th slot should have prompted me to reconsider extending the Mafia team to 6 players. My failure to consider this compounded my previous error of judgement and led to a setup somewhat biased against the Mafia team. Sorry.

Second of all, I made the wrong call in offering an "extend" at the end of the penultimate day, due to complaints about the potential effects of multiple modkills. This was poor judgement. The "must post" and "must vote" rules were determined before the game started and made very clear to all players signing up, more than once. I should have applied the rules, impartially, as stated - and Chaqa was right to over-rule me on that count.

I am sorry if my human failings as a GM affected anyone's enjoyment of the game. I will reflect on these issues. I am unlikely to volunteer to GM for some time, and if I ever do again, I will learn from these experiences.
