New Variant Trials Finished
Even though it wasn't a actual tournament or anything and the games were originally 'wait for ready up' and that stopped halfway through leading to a lot of cds... i figured as they've all come to an end i would post the "results" anyway

"Shut Down" Bullshit by Obama
If we don't Federal Workers to man the WWII memorial...how come we have enough to pay the guards to put up barricades and stand guard to prevents WWII vets from visiting? How come Obama still seems to have staff at his *golf course*?

Seems Barrack Dickhead Obama has a very selective vision of what "shut down" means...

DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS
If nobody has ever negotiated on the Debt Ceiling, as Obama and the intellectually vacant around here say, …then how did we get Sequestration after the Debt Ceiling negotiations in 2011. Sequestration was *Obama’s* plan, by the way.

How very little intellectual integrity exists within you morally perverted Democrats…

Rank Questions
So how long does a player remain a Political Puppet and then move on to Member, Experienced, etc?

Is it a matter of how long you've played or how many times you've won or drawn? Or is it just based on time spent on the site? Just curious. Thanks for your help....

was lincoln great for our elite?
bill still seems to think the elite wanted to divide america so lincoln was a problem for them. but i am not so sure. lets say he did not declare war on the south and let the south kick out the norths military from their territory, would that have really benefited them much?

College Life
So a couple months ago I asked the WebDip community for advice for college. Many of you said that joining a frat would be a good idea, and at the very least I should check it out.
Well, on October 7th I am pledging to Theta Chi; are there any soon-to-be fellow frat mates on WebDip? What other fraternities are people a part of?

Fog of war variant
Correct me if there is already one, but wouldn't it be cool to have a variant with 'fog of war'? You would only be able to see enemy units in territories neighbouring your own territory/armies. The uncertainty would make things very interesting.. perhaps with additional distance limitations on conversation as well

GUNBOAT TOURNAMENT
As has been mentioned, I am hoping to run a gunboat tournament. I intend it to be basic but also comprehensive. I will detail some "things" below. I would like to get a read on who would be interested in playing.

Another four way draw in Game 7 in Group D: gameID=110165

Group D:
2WL (8) NigeeBaby (6.4) rdrivera2005 (10.4) jcbryan97 (4) jimgov (2.4) Lando (2.4) TMOW (6.4)
gameID=110157 gameID=110156 gameID=110157 gameID=110160 gameID=110161 gameID=110162 gameID=110163 gameID=110165
Was wondering who italy was in that game............. Let's just say that his decisions are not the ones I would have made. I will say more come EOGs. Congrats to those who drew.
jcbryan97 (134 D)
19 Mar 13 UTC
That's a cheap way of commenting on the game after telling others not to. That's like if I were to respond with "Let's just say his decisions were perfect, he just got stabbed and you're just upset because he kept smyrna (which you proved later with your futile attempt to retake it to be the wise move)." But I won't say that.
My only directions in this regard have been "take it easy on the Eogs" and "do not refer to ongoing games".

To let you know, jcb, my moves at the end were to hold smy, not take it. Also, I am not Mad he didn't return Smyrna, but disappointed he thought I would try to retake it. I would have never left a unit idle if it served no purpose.
I told you the rule of your's on EOG-s was pointless and just unnecessary. How all this you were talking about can influence future games if all the players in the tournament play the game of diplomacy "by the rules" and not with some hidden, low intentions?
I explained to you Split but you didn't understand - all I want to avoid is people saying things like "I threw X game because I think I can win Y game" or "I already had a solo so I was willing to draw with a huge group of people to help keep myself in the lead"
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
19 Mar 13 UTC
Somebody threw game X ..... which one is Y, is Lando on for a solo, everybody stop him :-)
To avoid something like you were implicating in your "short and take it easy" EOG ?
I am not sure I follow, Split.
Why you said "I was wondering who Italy was in that game." ? What that means? Is it an "take it easy EOG? Isn't that excatly what you wanted to avoid to see here?
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 Mar 13 UTC
Hey, I'm just happy I managed to be part of the draw in one of them and get *some* points. I'm the non-gunboater way out of his element in this tournament. I only played cause Lando asked me to and, well, at least I'm not in last place. :-)
Perhaps I should not have said that portion of it. Truly, though, I was not referring to any other games. I was msytified by Italian moves and was curious who had committed them. I will stop here, as I am sure there is nothing left to discuss. I do not mean to ofend, jimgov, I simply "did not understand."
Good game all. I was really quite impressed with rdrivera in the endgame, so kudos to him.
There's nothing wrong about it and we all could discuss about such things in games. What is wrong is that rule of your's which has caused a lot of missunderstandings allready. Nobody would say "I threw X game because I think I can win Y game" or such things, nobody here is that stupid.
2ndWhiteLine (2591 D(B))

I'm with Split on this one. I understand you initial desire to avoid potential conflicts of interest in regards to moving on to subsequent rounds and having that affect your play in the group stage, but I don't see how a regular EOG could possibly affect the play of anybody else. You need to be in the top 2 of each group to advance, and regardless of the intentions of other players, it's not going to affect anybody's strategy of playing to win and playing for the most points possible. Commenting on a finished game, in light of your own policy on EOGs, does seem a bit disingenuous.
AlexNesta (239 D)

LOL, be careful SD, some people may take that as a challenge! :-)
That may or may not be true. I think we are arguing the same side here SPlit, but with a different understanding of what happened. I tried to caution the group that extended EOG statements could lead to people saying things that they shouldn't. I think the group took my caution as a strict rule and has since over-policed itself. (Note people like Draugnar making statements like "and as Lando wants I will say nothing about this game").

Some people don't even read this thread, actually.

I hope people are smart enought o not say things that shouldn't be said, but, seeing what has happened in this thread already it is hard to know for sure.
2ndWhiteLine (2591 D(B))
19 Mar 13 UTC
There was some ambiguity in the original policy which has caused some players to be overly cautious and other players to make statements that appear to flaunt the rule. A clear cut all or nothing EOG policy would make things a lot more simple, imo.
"in light of your own policy on EOGs, does seem a bit disingenuous. "

Again, I think that this has been misinterpreted.

I also disagree that there cannot be harm from EOGs - there can. I expect nigee's decision to draw in the game he should have won had something to do with a position in one of his other games (Nigee, do not answer this). There is dangers, people can avoid talking about specific things that are not allowed, but I don't think all people can be trusted with this.

The problem is, whatever I say in this thread will be interpreted 27 different ways by the 27 other people playing - it has been seen through many of the interactions in this thread.
I have stated what I had jhoped a policy to be - to not discuss ongoign games and to "take it easy on Eogs" to avoid this temptation. I am happy to follow whatever others want if they want something more clear, but this is all I asked of anyone and this is how I will continue to act unless a change is determined by discussions here.
AlexNesta (239 D)

I think the general rule of not discussing any aspect of ongoing games is sufficient, as it also covers the case that Lando brought up a little earlier: "I threw X game because I think I can win Y game" - Y game being still ongoing.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))

It sounds like as long as EOG statements don't make any references at all to other ongoing games, no one has an issue with them? I'm fine with that, I trust no one will try to take advantage of EOG's after further thought on the matter.

I don't see where is the problem if someone decides to draw in a game he should have won and that has something to do with a position in one of his other games
