"Belief in divine justice or karma is not inherently wrong. "

Belief in a concept is not wrong.

Taking enjoyment in the concept of others suffering is wrong.

Someone can believe in the death penalty and not take joy from it being applied.

"Who cares if it's wrong? I wish people suffering every day. You clearly haven't heard of an eye for an eye. "

I clearly HAVE heard of it.

Doesn't mean I think it is the correct approach.

I find it sad that you waste your energy everyday wishing people suffer. I am sorry that you are so bitter and angry about your life.
KansasBoyd (25 DX)

"Is there any impactful difference? "

A lot.

Because someone understands the existence of something doesn't mean that they should take enjoyment from it.

I believe in the concept that cancer kills people because that is reality. Doesn't mean that I take joy when it happens.

That is a pretty impactful difference I would say.

"I am sorry that you are so bitter and angry about your life."

It's not really bitter and angry. I just think that justice is one of those things that you should always strive to find.

"I believe in the concept that cancer kills people because that is reality. Doesn't mean that I take joy when it happens."

But it does not mean that you stop trying to stop cancer, just as acknowledging that the death penalty is a reality has not stopped people from trying to stop the death penalty, successfully under many circumstances. Standing by idly and allowing something to happen is no different than encouraging it and taking joy or pleasure in it.

How can you believe in something and yet feel completely apathetic toward it?
brainbomb (290 D)

Taking enjoyment in the concept of others suffering is wrong.

Example: Hitler made millions suffer. I hope he is suffering in hell. The idea that evil people suffer for the misery theyve brought on others brings me a small; but measurable feeling of justice.

Here are some more examples of people you should probably be satisfied if they suffered.

Bin laden
Moussilini
Stalin
Mao
Dahmer
Ted bundy
All the mass shooters - literally all of them

Lesser but relevant examples
Bernie madoff getting beaten in jail = awesome
High school bullies growing up to have depression
Warlords getting overthrown, khadafi, huessein

If someone is evil, has evil views, fills the world with evil; fuck yes I hope fire tornados wipe out everything they worked to build.

There shouldnt be laws or a justice system. There should be no punishments for anyone comitting a crime because someone might derive joy from someone elses incarceration.

"How can you believe in something and yet feel completely apathetic toward it? "

How can you confuse not taking joy with feeling apathetic toward it?

I believe in the concept that cancer kills people because I have experienced it first hand, and trust me, I felt the furthest from joy that you could possibly feel. That is a pretty impactful difference I would say.

My father died of cancer and my wife is currently fighting ovarian cancer as well as the consequences of having the BRCA-2 gene mutation.

How could you possible think I would feel apathetic towards it?

You have no ideas what I have done to try to and help in the advancement of cancer research despite not being a Dr. or scientist. I have donated a great deal of time and money, the best resources I personally have to use in the fight against it.

"If someone says to you "your wife deserves to have cancer".

Yes.

Cause what good will it do for me to waste energy on that person?

Will it magically cure my wife and take away her pain?

Or will it just drag me down to a complete idiots level?

Jesus, now who's butthurt? Chill the hell out.

I just made clear that your cancer analogy doesn't work in the way that you're trying to make it work. You are the one suffering, not cancer (or the person with cancer, if you prefer it that way). The fact of the matter is that you are trying to help the advancement of cancer research because it would bring joy to you to see cancer eradicated. If you felt absolutely no emotion toward seeing cancer eradicated, you wouldn't bother trying to help eradicate cancer unless you simply saw the logic behind doing so, in which case your impact is the exact same - you're still trying to eradicate cancer, even though it doesn't matter to you.

If you take joy in seeing cancer cells suffer, then you're a good dude; cancer should suffer. Cancer fucking sucks. My mom has cancer. My aunt has cancer. My grandmother somehow got through cancer and is in remission. Let's make cancer suffer together, KB, and let's take joy in watching every little cancer cell wriggle and squirm in pain and angst as they die as slowly and agonizingly as a human being would die of papercuts.

Do you think if someone gets the death penalty, was a grizzly murderer like timothy mcveigh, do you think the families are wrong for feeling excited about him getting executed? Do you think they are in the wrong if they also hope his family feels shame?

"If someone is evil, has evil views, fills the world with evil; fuck yes I hope fire tornados wipe out everything they worked to build. "

And does hoping that happens make it actually happen?

Are you Harry Potter?

Will it bring any relief to those who have had suffering inflicted on them by these people? Not at all.

Am I glad that all the people mentioned have been removed from their positions where they can inflict suffering on others? Of course.

But it doesn't do any good to wish them suffering. It won't change what they have done or bring any relief to those who have suffered because of them.

That is only bringing about unhealthy divine justice or karma upon yourself.

Yes I think they are wrong because that is not the way I would behave.

Feeling excited won't bring back their loved ones or take away the loss they have endured.

The families of people who do bad things are not bad people by default, so wishing them suffering is a completely terrible thing.

And does hoping that happens make it actually happen?

¤If you believe in praying to God for justice then.... yes absolutely.

Are you Harry Potter?
¤Yes

Will it bring any relief to those who have had suffering inflicted on them by these people? Not at all.

¤Yes, it will. And even if it doesnt, its still a good thing because it makes me believe theres justice in this world. Even if its a forn of karma or justice that comes from nature. Bernie Madoff being beaten in jail didnt get anyone their money back but it felt pretty deserved and likely made many of those who lost their life savings have a small sense of palpable satisfaction.

Am I glad that all the people mentioned have been removed from their positions where they can inflict suffering on others? Of course.

¤So do you feel the same about torturing terrorists for intel?

But it doesn't do any good to wish them suffering. It won't change what they have done or bring any relief to those who have suffered because of them.

¤No but it will provide a sense of closure

That is only bringing about unhealthy divine justice or karma upon yourself.

¤Perhaps, but many terrible desires and wishes are involuntary and reactive. You cant erase them. The thought is evil regardless of it its openly shared. Thats natural sin. The human mind swims in vengence all day and desires their own individual justice to play out in their lifetime. My red hair makes me high risk for skin cancer. If i go out without sunblock all summer I deserve to get it bcuz im a moron. If someone thinks "that ginger guy deserves to get cancer" well hes an idiot and hopefully he gets eaten by ravenous birds. Still

And you know this as a fact, how?

" If someone thinks "that ginger guy deserves to get cancer" well hes an idiot and hopefully he gets eaten by ravenous birds. Still

You are correct that he is an idiot, but nothing more.

I understand "Still that's life", doesn't mean I have to share in that lower outlook on life and shouldn't try and elevate myself to be a better person than that.

¤On the contrary both sons claimed they didnt know their father did it. And they were pivotal in trying to get victims their money back. Their deaths exacerbates the situation making the victims justice harder to obtain if even at all.

"¤On the contrary both sons claimed they didnt know their father did it. And they were pivotal in trying to get victims their money back. Their deaths exacerbates the situation making the victims justice harder to obtain if even at all."

But what makes it one of the best days in your life is that Bernie suffered, which you have stately plainly brings you joy.

So his sons dying of cancer and suicide, would bring Bernie great suffering and thereby increasing your joy.

In this case, the US is largely unwilling to reduce the harm it inflicts on others so it can only be stopped by external forces. Since carbon emissions are tightly linked to the economy, any blow to the IS economy is good for the world. Thus, big losses may be seen as a positive development if there is a reduction in emissions. Of course if it. Ales Americans wake up to reality that'd be even better.
JamesYanik (548 D)

actually if so many weren't anti-nuclear, there's a chance we could get zero-carbon WITH economic profit
