vdiplomacy login problems
Apparently my username doesn't seem to exist on vdiplomacy. I have tried contacting the mods about this but I have received no response months later. Does anyone here know what I can do, or if I am allowed to create another account identical to this one on vdip?

Private game needing players
Hey guys me and my friends are trying to host a private game of diplomacy because we have a 24 hour train ride. Our skill levels are mixed with many of the players only playing their third or fourth game while a couple of us have been playing for years. If anyone is willing to join gameID=181450 let me know and I'll give you the password. The only stipulation is you need to be able to chat on kik messenger. Thank you!

How do you end a drawn game when 1 player doesn't vote to draw.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=180889#gamePanel
I am playing France, the Italian player won't vote draw. Nobody has moved positions for maybe 4, 5 or 6 moves. It's a pain to keep entering the same set of orders, it is obviously a draw. What to do?

Nixon ran twice. It has happened since Dewey.
Well, that article is trash. Cites 1 statistic and 1 anecdote and is also from a cite that "serves up the news with a conservative slant. The company publishes alternative news and opinion content through its monthly 300,000-subscriber magazine NewsMax and corresponding Web site. The company generates sales from politically-oriented merchandise (clothing, posters, books) showcasing stars of the Republican Party."

"Nixon ran twice. It has happened since Dewey."
Not consecutively
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
Oh okay so only conservative fact checkers and websites are trash. Got it.
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
he ran in 1960, 1968, 1972.

He failed the first time and was successful the other two times.
Oh, ND, that is a strawman. It's just that when your site literally makes money from politically oriented merchandise, it isn't credible.
TrPrado (461 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
1960 and 1968 aren't consecutive elections :)
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
There are more websites and articles out there about politifact. It having a liberal bias is well known.
You could ya know, used USNews article.

ND (879 D)

@TrPrado: Yes, but your original point was that since Dewey a major party hasn't ran the same candidate again. Nixon lost the first time and then ran again and won twice consecutively.
TrPrado (461 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
Vash suggested Republicans could run Trump again in 2020 if he lost this year, and they surely won't run someone who lost one presidential election in the presidential election just after.
TrPrado (461 D)

Also
"Yes, but your original point was that since Dewey a major party hasn't ran the same candidate again"
This is way more specific than what I said.

ND - how can I trust a man who declared bankruptcy so many times to get out of debt; who has as many failed businesses as successful ones; who makes money by refusing to honor contracts and hiding behind an army of lawyers when people come for the money that is rightfully theirs? How can I trust him to write the laws to be fair for everyone, when's he's only ever been used to gaming the system for his personal game? In international politics there is no "system" to game. No lawyers to hide behind, or bankruptcy laws to protect you. On foreign policy alone, he will ruin our reputation with the world.
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
@Goldfinger: He declared bankruptcy four times over a career that has lasted decades and owns hundreds of otherwise successful companies. Nice try, but this point has been discredited.
goldfinger0303 (3157 DMod)

He doesn't own those companies, as his lawsuits contend. He merely licenses his name, which absolves him of all responsibility.
TrPrado (461 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
That's a pisspoor attempt at discrediting his point.

Also, four times is four more times than any other presidential candidate. Normal business owners don't go bankrupt
TrPrado (461 D)

That was at ND
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trump_Organization

". It lists involvement in 515 subsidiaries and entities with 264 of them bearing Trump's name and another 54 including his initials"
TrPrado (461 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
The Panama Papers also had several shell entities with ties to the name in the same way.
@ND - he literally doesn't pay his invoices. I've spoken with people whose parent's company is used to do business with him. It's 2nd hand, I know, but he would always delay on paying until the supplier was so desperate for cash to stay solvent that they'd re-negotiate a settlement - and then never do business with him again.
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
One candidate has been investigated by the FBI and this investigation showed that the 'rule of law' doesn't apply anymore in the United States. One candidate has had a few civil lawsuits some of which are pending. A civil lawsuit is much different than a criminal investigation.
TrPrado (461 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
Some of those "civil lawsuits" claim he was committing fraud, which is a crime.
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
well when Trump is indicted on fraud or a criminal probe is launched because of that then we can compare him to Clinton mishandling classified secrets on a server in her basement.
ND (879 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
@Goldfinger: I appreciate the 2nd hand story, but it doesn't change my opinion.
TrPrado (461 D)
25 Jul 16 UTC
Fraud is still no less a crime, and Trump still definitely committed it. In these cases, he has constantly tried to seem settlements to put them down because he knows he'd lose, despite him bragging about never settling cases.
ND - believe me, I hate Hillary for that and a whole load of other reasonings. But we're talking two different beasts. With Clinton, she thinks (apparently rightfully so) that she is above the law. That's corrupt. Trump, however, is just a shady, shady businessman who is only not in the poor house *because* of the law. I looked through the wiki and into its source material and found this, which kinda backs me up.

"Mr. Trump, 69 years old, amassed a fortune early in his career on high-risk real-estate deals. But since he took a big financial hit during the early 1990s, he has limited his involvement in real-estate projects, focusing on licensing his name to other developers"

Of those hundreds of companies he listed, well over half are license deals. The dude makes money (today - a lot of the business deals of the sort I mentioned with my story were from the 90s) like the Kardashians make money - off of their name. If the choice is between corruption and Kardashian... well shit I'm moving to Canada.

But recently he's been sued over Trump University for deceptive business practices, real estate investors for developments in California and Mexico that were never built, a real estate buyer who says Trump broke a contract with him and waited until the market went up to sell the property to someone else, and had his casino in Atlantic city go bankrupt.

He's not an amazing businessman. Someone like Warren Buffet is. He's successful, but only because all of his business practices are on the edge of legality. The most troublesome but though is that in his wake he leaves masses of people who feel cheated, refunded, and abused by Trump's "successful" businesses. He's the kind of man who would sue his neighbor. That style of leadership isn't conducive for politics. In the business world where there's an infinite number of new real estate partners, sure, it's successful. But if you fuck over Japan in a trade deal, guess what - Japan is still going to be there. And they're going to remember being fucked. Our international system of alliances will be out in jeopardy with him as President. Our businesses are the most successful in the world in part due to our government being liked (or at least tolerated) by most of the world. Good trade deals depend on good diplomacy, and I've yet to see that from Trump
