New Variant Trials Finished
Even though it wasn't a actual tournament or anything and the games were originally 'wait for ready up' and that stopped halfway through leading to a lot of cds... i figured as they've all come to an end i would post the "results" anyway

"Shut Down" Bullshit by Obama
If we don't Federal Workers to man the WWII memorial...how come we have enough to pay the guards to put up barricades and stand guard to prevents WWII vets from visiting? How come Obama still seems to have staff at his *golf course*?

Seems Barrack Dickhead Obama has a very selective vision of what "shut down" means...

DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS
If nobody has ever negotiated on the Debt Ceiling, as Obama and the intellectually vacant around here say, …then how did we get Sequestration after the Debt Ceiling negotiations in 2011. Sequestration was *Obama’s* plan, by the way.

How very little intellectual integrity exists within you morally perverted Democrats…

Rank Questions
So how long does a player remain a Political Puppet and then move on to Member, Experienced, etc?

Is it a matter of how long you've played or how many times you've won or drawn? Or is it just based on time spent on the site? Just curious. Thanks for your help....

Any interest in a 3 to 4 day phase game? I'd definitely want WTA, but buy-in, anonymity, and map (classic or modern) are up for debate. Drop a line and your preferences if interested. Thanks.

was lincoln great for our elite?
bill still seems to think the elite wanted to divide america so lincoln was a problem for them. but i am not so sure. lets say he did not declare war on the south and let the south kick out the norths military from their territory, would that have really benefited them much?

College Life
So a couple months ago I asked the WebDip community for advice for college. Many of you said that joining a frat would be a good idea, and at the very least I should check it out.
Well, on October 7th I am pledging to Theta Chi; are there any soon-to-be fellow frat mates on WebDip? What other fraternities are people a part of?

Fog of war variant
Correct me if there is already one, but wouldn't it be cool to have a variant with 'fog of war'? You would only be able to see enemy units in territories neighbouring your own territory/armies. The uncertainty would make things very interesting.. perhaps with additional distance limitations on conversation as well

GUNBOAT TOURNAMENT
As has been mentioned, I am hoping to run a gunboat tournament. I intend it to be basic but also comprehensive. I will detail some "things" below. I would like to get a read on who would be interested in playing.

Trooth (561 D)

Yeah, Italy confused me as well...very sad. I am not a fan of Austria. I am not sure if it is my play style or lack of exp with Austria. Disappointing. Good EOG, thanks!
@Gen. Lee - well done. I hate playing as Turkey.
EOG:
Nothing surprisingly about the final result at all.Turkey and Germany played perfectly
and no other result was possible in this game. If I could have taken Rome and hold
Naples I would have soloed but that wasn't an option. On the other side Turkey
couldn't have done it either as I wouldn't have stabbed Germany without holding Rome
and Naples. And the two-way wasn't possible either, with Germany out Turkey would
have won the game. I was preparing the solo for the last couple of year's though
but I needed to give up on that.
Bad play by France,Russia and Italy so Austria had no chance and the 3-way
was the logic outcome of the game.
GG.

Looking the players can´t say the result was surprising.....
Game 2 is over too,gameID=110151, an R/T/E/F four-way.Gg all.EOG soon...
Let's please go easy on the EOGs until the whole round is finished.
No problem.And why is that?
CSteinhardt (9560 D(B))

I assume the idea is that because of the tournament rules, a certain amount of metagaming is possible when deciding what strategy to adopt. I'm not sure how likely it is that it's an issue, though.

Can we at least have an updated scoreboard?
That's what I thought too.But you need to know who is who if you want to be a part of metagaming. And EOGs wouldn't help the matter.Neverming,I can stay without EOGs...
Gunboat Tournament:
--------------------------------
Group A:
Split (7), gen. lee (4), stressedlines (3), trooth (3), yebellz (7), brianofboru (0), Chaqa (0)
yeah, we don't really want results from earlier rounds to influence the later rounds - there is startegy choice maybe in making decisions around what has already happened. This is fine, but talking about what has already happened may affect these choices, which is then discussion affecting gunboat games.

I am real busy these days, I tend to only be able to update things in the evenings. Thanks SPlit for taking care of this so far.
Haven't understood a word of it. Or if I have understood it well - this what you are talking about has no sense at all. Means in any game on this site you can based your strategy on how a player who you play with have been playing in the past. Why it should be different in this tournament? That has no sense to me.
jimgov (219 D(B))
28 Feb 13 UTC
Silly. Once a game has ended, you can say anything about it that you want. No one agreed to anything else. I've got the whole "you can't talk about a gunboat game that is in progress," but everything else is fair game.

The difference is that it's Lando's tournament, and he can set the rules. The guy is working very hard to put this together and if he wants to wait another week or two for EoGs then what is the big deal?
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
28 Feb 13 UTC
I can see what he means, but insights into my thoughts while playing Turkey may help you if you know I'm Turkey in a game but it will not help you since you don't know if I got Turkey again or in which game and...its too late...its 1908 in most of my games. Although now that I read it again, Lando is referring to round 1 influencing the next round of 7 or even the finals. There will be no point in EOGs if we wait 3 months to do them...
Rather, as games finish the current scores affect play. My choices in A are based on results in B. To say, I attacked X because u knew u could solo in B (ongoing) is what I am hoping to avoid.
And what's wrong about that? Is this a tournament? The tournament strategy is not the same as a single game strategy. Is it against the rules to have a strategy for the whole tournament and not for a single game?
Stressedlines (1559 D)
28 Feb 13 UTC
umm, Not sure how many of us want to do 7 EOGs at once either....lol
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))
28 Feb 13 UTC
Definitely, but you shouldn't know who X or Y or Z are in theory.
Fairfax (1915 D)
28 Feb 13 UTC
I must say, I can't really see the issue with EOGs either.
But if games B D and D are ongoing, for me to say in game A I opted to try and throw a solo to someone else because I think I have a good chance to draw in each of B C and D is talking about 3 ongoign gunboat games. I want to avoid this potential problem - i recognize it may not happen, and that people can be smart - but I would prefer to avoid the possibility.

There is no obligation to write EOGs.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
28 Feb 13 UTC
YOu know, we can guess who is who, but at theend, it is still only a guess, yes?
No,we can KNOW who is who but that shouldn't make any differences in anyone's strategy, you should play any game how a game has to be played.Means - if you know x is y or z you wont lose your game because you would like x,y or z to lose, you'll play to win that game or at least to draw it.
Stressedlines (1559 D)
28 Feb 13 UTC
the standings are there to be seen regardless, so if I am in a position to make the final cut, and just ahead of 2 others, I may throw a solo to someone, in HOPES that the person who wins is not someone below me, but that is just me playing the %s.

However, that being said, this is Landos tourney, so i will go with his end decision, since he has done so much to put it together.
But there is a scoring system to move on, so, if you know who is who you can know who is ahead and behidn you in standings and therefore, who is most important to beat.

Thinking of this stuff is allowed, but discussing it, specifically, is not.
Of course, that's what I meant. That's your strategy and you have the right to do it and that's not any kind of metagaming.

Hi everyone. Could someone point me in the direction of some general gunboat strategy, especially classic? Things like opening moves for different countries, how to "coordinate" with players given the restrictions, etc. Pretty please thank you!!

IPCC finally admits that it was lying to us all

My stance on global warming for the last year has remained the same: The IPCC were exaggerating their claims, and that while global warming is happening, its not happening as quickly as climate scientists think.
