From 2015-2041 Croatian and Serbian Governments began to militarize theur borders along the Danube.

In Spring 2042 Croatian forces offered a cease fire after a night of border skirmishes left thousands killed or wounded.

By the mid 2060s the cease fire ended and food shortages drove both sides to attempt a control of the lands around the river; among the only suitable farmland.

The history of fighting between Croatian forces and Serbian forces is deep and has shaped the personal identity.

Some 200,000 Croatians live in Serbia as sea levels had risen even in the Adriatic.

The Croatian government was granted its own Space program in 2086; to colonize a planet and preserve its culture.

Shortly after selection, this decision enraged Serbian Parliament. As part of appeasement the UNECP agreed to grant a space programme to Serbia and began the initial vetting lottery process for Albania, Macedonia, and Cyprus.

Many of the rebel groups in Serbia are believed to also include Croatians who were displaced by a variety of factors.

Conclusion: This is a very unhappy relationship between these two peoples which has a history of bitter infighting predating WWI on Earth.
