vdiplomacy login problems
Apparently my username doesn't seem to exist on vdiplomacy. I have tried contacting the mods about this but I have received no response months later. Does anyone here know what I can do, or if I am allowed to create another account identical to this one on vdip?

Private game needing players
Hey guys me and my friends are trying to host a private game of diplomacy because we have a 24 hour train ride. Our skill levels are mixed with many of the players only playing their third or fourth game while a couple of us have been playing for years. If anyone is willing to join gameID=181450 let me know and I'll give you the password. The only stipulation is you need to be able to chat on kik messenger. Thank you!

How do you end a drawn game when 1 player doesn't vote to draw.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=180889#gamePanel
I am playing France, the Italian player won't vote draw. Nobody has moved positions for maybe 4, 5 or 6 moves. It's a pain to keep entering the same set of orders, it is obviously a draw. What to do?

German 10 year bund at a paltry 40 basis points. If feel terrible for all you twenty somethings and teenagers And my children. You all are going to have it a lot harder than I did. We could argue for days on why that is. I respect you Goldy so I won't go too far.

Building a wall is an already failed strategy. In border cities, drug cartels repeatedly tunnel under the walls to ship their product into the US. The electronic walls to track illegal immigrants have failed so badly that Bush gave up on funding them.

All Trump will do is increase the deficit with a proven failed idea. The Republicans already tried it and showed how little it worked.

You can't say 08 was the slowest rebound in history when that recession pales in comparison to the Great Depression. QE and low interest rates helped create a real recovery. Compare America to the Euro zone or Japan for example.
ssorenn (0 DX)
24 Jul 16 UTC
You call this a real recovery. You should go back to Econ 101. Flooding the market with liquidity and lowering the value of the dollar inflated hard asset prices. That's not real. Now with the EU and Japan lowering rates and on the verge of more QE it's not allowing for the US to raise rates. We are in uncharted waters and things could go south very quickly

Wait till the Chinese and Russians start selling all the real estate they bought at whatever cost to get their money out of the currency. NY real estate is already starting to soften and so is SF.

"Sustained growth needs free markets" I admit your modified assertion is a little bit more difficult to refute, but lack of refutation does not mean proof.
"Then what happened after '45" My guess is that USSR bureaucracy became monster-sized.

So, well, yes, I can admit that free markets are a good thing, and that excessive government is a bad thing....

Fortunately for you, Hillary (if she wins) is not even socialdemocrat as Bernie. She won't be against free markets at all.

On the other hand, what is excessive government? As someone pointed above, you trumpists might do well to give a look to (sp. northern) european social democracies.
Brankl (231 D)
24 Jul 16 UTC
Employment is back around normal levels. That's a huge improvement. Now growth expectations are a major problem, but I would claim those are systemic and not cyclic in nature.

"All Trump will do is increase the deficit with a proven failed idea." No, because the cost will be payed by mexican go...HA HA HA, sorry.

All Trump will do is... wait for years to see if mexican gov. maybe builds five meters of wall.

No seriously, I'd expect an increased number of migrants shut by the border patrol, which won't slow illegal migration any little bit.
HINT: migrants are not there just cos they want to.

The real unemployment level is not what is published every first Friday of the month. That does not account for all the people who have left the workforce and or no longer looking for full time employment. A lot of companies hire part time employees so they don't have to offer benies or healthcare
Vashta always the retard. I'm talking about the US real estate purchased by Russian and Chinese
Ssorenn - two things. First, thanks for the respect. Believe me, I value your perspective on this two. Second, a little miscommunication on my part. '01 was the slowest recovery in history up until that point. The Great Recession absolutely was slower (and of course Great Depression is an entire different ballgame. We're talking recessions here, not depression).

Interested to hear about the Russians and Chinese pulling out. Part of their reason to keep money here is to 1) Keep it out of their governments reach and 2) As a store of value. And both are doing fantastically well.

But believe me, I'm very negative on the economic future, for many of the reasons you gave. We just disagree on the underlying cause
ssorenn (0 DX)
24 Jul 16 UTC
Goldy. Regulatory issues are not the sole reason we are where we are. We can agree on that. I am a firm believe in free markets. That said, there are many more underlying issues that continue to haunt us. Many too many to discuss in this forum. I type slow so it's hard for me to get my point across before I lose focus ( old age). :((.

As far as the Russian oligarchs and the wealthy Chinese as well as many oil baron middle easterners, have been buying US real estate for many years. They were willing to pay a premium to buy it and will sell at a discount at some point. Why? It gets their money out of their currency and into US dollars. That's a real good reason. The buy and sell for them will cost upwards of 30-60 percent but they don't care. They want green backs. They have been buying residential and commercial and even industrial property and at some point will flood the market with it. Don't know when, but if the economy starts to turn, they will put supply on the market that has little demand and watch out.

Arguably under regulation is part of the problem. Typically, monied interests are successful at staving off rules that keep private interests from making money at the expense of the public. Absent regulation, companies will always screw over the public to make money, so we are missing a lot of regulations, for example to protect the environment or workers that would leave the economy as a whole better off while shaving private profits. Take a look at Wall Street which delivers little to the wider economic benefit but is quite successful at redistributing money to itself. Deregulation played a huge role in the financial collapse of 2008 which resulted in massive losses to the economy even as Wall Street firms did very well. Regulatory capture plays no small role here. Unless we can cut back severely on the distorting effects of corporate power in forming law, we aren't going to have a properly functioning free market. Free markets do not function without rules and referees. If they did, Somalia would be fantastically wealthy. It isn't

A Kenyan man with traditional African-Christian values supports a conservative politician? No way, totally could have fooled me.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Jul 16 UTC
Note: Yes, Malik is Muslim, but Kenya is primarily Christian, and the values of the country are the same as in most Christian African countries.
A lotta people respect Bloomberg, if that's what you're talking about, Prado.

Also, Ogion, as someone who has worked for every one of the main bank regulators, I think the term regulatory capture is used a bit too lightly. And often, the problems are farther up the chain. In 2006, had we looked through the banks books, we would've seen a whole lot of investment grade housing bonds on the books. That's no fault of regulatory capture.
@ssorenn, basically you're saying I should start shorting the US real estate market again haha. Or at least wait before buying real estate in nyc

"A lotta people respect Bloomberg"

-Lol this is was the guy that taxed 2 liters of soda. Talk about the nanny state politician. He and Clinton will do well together.
ND - he was trying to prevent Americans from being fat fucks by pricing the cost of being a fat fuck into the market - which is actually the most efficient way to do so, economically
