My in-game messages are 10,813 in 81 games which is 133.5 per game. That 81 includes a few gunboat games but not too many.

Just realized that I could look at the Gunboat peak ratings to see how many gunboat games I've played (7) to get the true press game number (75). Although technically I played a couple unofficial gunboat games before gunboat was officially supported. That also assumes that my 81 games listed on my profile doesn't include any gunboats that were completed between the start of January and now, which for me is correct.

Overall GR is not an accurate representation of what we're measuring here.

Its not reasonable to estimate messages for me. GR 121, messages 4400, and 7 WTA FP out of 194. :/ I send a lot of messages...but i doubt its 628 per game.

@KingRishard, I've asked Kestas if he can include a banned flag in the ghost rating data dump so I can exclude banned players from being listed. With that in place I could probably extend the drop off time from 3 months to maybe 6 or 12 months. Or just extend it for the category based ones regardless and keep it at 3 or 6 months for the general ghost rating list.

Abge, he has 109 gunboat games in the peak gunboat list. So a large portion of his 193 games are gunboat, with probably a decent number in Jan/Feb.

In any case, going with about 80 press games, that would be 55 msg per game.

17 FP, 2 (I think Wilson) - ill just count it as one - gives my approx 363 messages per game.

This of course includes short messages and non-game related chatting.

I also play 48hrs almost exclusively which helps drive the number up (assuming other people have a higher proportion of 36hr.

Excluding the 39 gunboats I've played (I played way too many lives games one month, and I'm pretty lousy at them, it turns out), but probably including one or two public press and PPSC games I can't account, I'm at 133 messages per game.

Something I think we may want to consider here is how we look at the data. Most people will look to see how the quantity of messages affects quality of results (most would hypothesize that typically more messages means better results). But I think we also need to look at it from the other way around. The better you do in games the more messages you tend to send. If your GR is low, that means you have many defeats and are losing games in the early years and thus don't have the opportunity to send more messages. If you are alive for more game years, you will have more reason to send more messages. I think we should keep that in the back of our mind too before we make any conclusions here.

I'm going to run a regression on this if we get over, say, 40 responses. Just for fun.

And, yeah, like Tom said, te longer your survive the more messaes you're going to have. It's sort of a chicken or egg situation.

I get what Tom is saying, but I've found that my messages usually cut off towards the late game. Early messaging I'd suspect is much more important than late messaging, which is why I think number of messages is a better indicator of rank rather than rank is an indicator of number of messages.
