“Ours is essentially a tragic age, so we refuse to take it tragically. The cataclysm has happened, we are among the ruins, we start to build up new little habits, to have new little hopes. It is rather hard work: there is now no smooth road into the future: but we go round, or scramble over the obstacles. We’ve got to live, no matter how many skies have fallen.” --D.H. I'm buying a gun
A .357 magnum double action revolver is the perfect low maintenance handgun for the inexperienced user. Now I can shoot Putin when the commies try to take over.

Opinions?

Glock 17 should go on your list. Also low maintenance, higher load and can hold up to 17 bullets.

ava from the research I've done it seems that semi-automatic pistols like the Glock are preferred by experienced users, but require more maintenance than a revolver (i.e. should be cleaned after every use, and you can't leave it in a closet for 4 years and KNOW it's going to fire).

If I like the revolver and have fun that would probably be my next choice.

I'm thinking the 627 Tracker (7 rounds, 4" barrel) will be the way I go. I know they aren't as nice as a Ruger or S&W, but financial considerations definitely apply for me - I found a Rracker for $410 NIB and nobody else seems to come close to matching that

I'm gonna give millions to a pro-gun lobby and if any citizens get massacred needlessly by some crackpot who shouldn't be in charge of matches, let alone a firearm, I will be on this forum wrapping myself in the star spangled banner, quoting the US constitution and promising to vote Republican because I'm very worried about things I don't fully understand that usually end in 'ism'.

Classy.

I'm sure Tim McVeigh made some jokes about killing people before he blew up a building filled with kids. At what point should we become concerned?

Well said, Mr. Klein

@ Yellowjacket

Have you looked into 1911-type semiautomatics? It's not a revolver, but it's extremely reliable and powerful as hell. It's simple too; it can be field stripped in seconds. It has between 45 and 50 parts, and it has a thumb and a grip safety, with some models having a firing pin safety. It's single action only with an exposed hammer, so you will get the same trigger pull every time, which you won't get with a .357 revolver.

are you saying you don't get the same trigger pull every time with a double action .357 magnum...? can't imagine why... besides why would you want the hassle of pulling the hammer back each time to fire...
teufelhunden83 (100 D)
07 Sep 12 UTC
i got a ruger gp100 for $650.00 hell of a deal... unfortunately .357 magnum bullets are not cheap... you could use .38 special rounds in these guns which are a bit cheaper...

@Nigee - You aren't a midwesterner but you are an idiot. The midwest isn't what you think it is. It is a mix of red and blue. What you described is the deep south. So all you did was show your ignorance of America with your post.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
07 Sep 12 UTC
Draug - you missed the 'I'm only joking' phrase which absolves me from any responsibility to the words I wrote before and after ...... I won't be held accountable for any actions or shootings resulting from my words. This is not serious political comment, I'm with you mate, guns are great, it's people like communists and people who want the rich to pay more tax that are bad, oh, and people who support a womans right to choose, they are pure evil.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
07 Sep 12 UTC
@ teufelhunden83

You will get a consistent trigger pull firing a revolver double-action, but it will be a heavy pull and may throw off your accuracy.

You could fire .38 Special rounds through a .357, but depending on the gun it may be hard on the weapon and cause premature wear.

@ Yellowjacket

I would stay away from revolvers. While their simplicity and ease of maintenance is appealing, they may not be quite as effective as a semiautomatic.

Stay away from Glocks. They are excellent
"I'm sure Tim McVeigh made some jokes about killing people before he blew up a building filled with kids. At what point should we become concerned?"
I suspect he also told knock-knock jokes on occasion. And urinated regularly. At what point should we become concerned?
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

(sorry, accidentally pressed "post reply")

Stay away from Glocks. They are decent weapons, but they are quite complex and fragile. I trust wood and steel over polymer. I don't trust their purported reliability. The 1911 has been to hell and back across 6 continents for over a century. Glocks are new and haven't seen much frontline combat. And I doubt that Glocks will still be incredibly popular in 100 years. Because the 1911 will still be popular in 2112.

The Colt's Mfg. Mark IV/Series 70 is the best general purpose handgun on the market today. Its single stack magazine is ideal for concealed carry, but it still has plenty of punch to take down any human aggressor. And it never hurts to have 101 years of faithful history with you.

@Nigee - Your disclaimer does not forgive ignorance. You are still responsible for incorrectly identifying where the pro-gun and conservative Christian core lives. You malign a group of people because of your ignorance and you can't write it off as "comedy". Sorry, but you have to stand behind you rjoke and you can't. Epic. Fucking. Fail.
teufelhunden83 (100 D)
07 Sep 12 UTC
why would a .38 special cause premature wear on a weapon machined for a .357 magnum... they are identical rounds with two exceptions:
the casing on a .357 magnum is slightly longer than on .38 special
the smokeless powder charge in .38 special rounds is typically less than in .357 magnum rounds...

teufelhunden83 (100 D)

true a double action revolver does have a heavy trigger pull, but you can get that changed by a competant gunsmith... also once you've had enough practice the heavy pull becomes less noticable...

I do like a good larf at people that take themselves waaaaaay too serious, this doesn't seem like the best time to let them know that nobody gives a damn what they think, because once these people finally realize how irrelevant and insignificant they are they look over to that gun cabinet that offers them instant notoriety.
'Look at me ma, top of the world'
Being pro-life and pro-gun seems kinda weird, so we protect the rights of the unwanted unloved child until they become old enough to commit crime and then we reserve the right to shoot them for their anti-social or criminal.behaviour.
Have the righteous right really thought this one through......

Putin doesn't need a gun, he duel wields a hammer and sickle.

Nobody is joking about killing you, though... I'd probably just shoot you in the testicles. I don't know why but the thought of that really appeals to me. It's probably your continued insistence on mocking my Hindi death cult forefathers. For shame, Putin, you've already been warned about your racial slurs. I would expect that you of all people would have stopped your bilious hate speech after the first request.

YHN: If Tim McVeigh was noted for knock-knock jokes, and then was later arrested for bludgeoning twenty people to death with a steel dildo, then yes. The knock knock jokes might be relevant.

For another example, I'm sure the guy behind the Norwegian massacre of recent memory made "jokes" about such things. And then he does it. I'd prefer to keep the language of violence out of political discourse. Call me crazy.

I, as a self-described crazy left winger, do not wish physical harm upon anybody on the political spectrum, even those who I very much disagree with. I do hope that the Republican party gets the political equivalent of being beaten like the redheaded stepchild of a rented mule.

"Threatening to shoot somebody is hilarious. I'm surprised webdip doesn't win awards for its 'comedy'."

Odd to hear this complaint from someone who is advocating the ethnic cleansing of a linguistic minority in another thread in the same day. I for one have no doubt at all that if everyone's favorite Stalinist had his way, half the Americans on this forum would be shot in the back of the head and dumped in mass graves or deported to "re-education" camps in Alaska. I think it's very smart for YJ to think about this (hopefully very remote) possibility and plan accordingly.

Wandering around diplom.org and found an article that raised an interesting question. You have the ability to choose between two options for your next seven games; you will either be part of a seven-way draw in all seven games, or you will win one and be eliminated in the other six. Which do you choose?
