I'm back!
Looks like we've still got a few old timers out there. Hello again to them and a first time to the newer players.

I see the forums haven't changed much, 50% philosophical debates, 49% trolling and 1% game related stuff.

Classical Music
In a classical listening mood today, as I work here in my home. Any suggestions? I already have the following in my playlist:

02 Aug 12 UTC
Liszt, Hungarian Rhapsody, No. 2
Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto No. 1, Symphony No. 6
Some assorted Bizet, Dvorak and Rossini
Ravel, Bolero

Need some Mozart, some Bach, some Beethoven, maybe some Strauss....
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
Moonlight Sonata! Gotta add that one.
SacredDigits (102 D)

I like to listen to Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Holst's The Planets, although some would argue that Holst (being active in the early 20th century) isn't "classical." I like the longer themed works like that.
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
I say Holst qualifies.
You have a longer attention span than I do, LOL. Though I can happily sit through all four movements of Beethoven's Ninth.

Isaac Hayes, "Theme From Shaft." Great use of horns and strings.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Aug 12 UTC
Bolero, The Four Season's, the Planets, or maybe some neo-classical like Barber or Copland.
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
I'm not as familiar as I should be with Paganini.

And fairleym, that's a slightly different kind of classic.
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
Draug, "Fanfare for the Common Man" and "Hoedown" are great tunes.

It's hard to beat Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, but you have to be in the right mood.
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)

I didn't know that one. Fantastic. Love the cello. Thanks for the tip, Octavious.

@dipplayer - Appalachian Spring is my favorite Copland and it is at it's finest when conducted by Bernstein.
iris.may (0 DX)
02 Aug 12 UTC
A few of my faves: Strauss' Ein Heldenleben, Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2, Prokofiev Lt. Kije Symphony. All of them are fairly heavy though. Depends on your mood. My personal favorite Liszt is Les Preludes and my favorite Copland is the Tender Land (if you are an opera fan).
My personal favorite cello piece (I am a cellist myself) is William Walton's Cello Concerto although, again, it is not paticularly easy listening.

Appalachian Spring just isn't doing anything for me.
Rhapsody in Blue is a great tune, Nigee. As are those others you linked.

Iris, I'll have to look into your suggestions. I love the cello.
Magus (117 D)

Beethoven's second, third, fifth, and ninth are my favorites.

If you're interested in a lot of good Mozart and/or Bach for a good value, I found two collections on iTunes, one of Mozart, one of Bach. The Mozart was 111 songs for ten dollars, and the Bach was 100 for 8. Great value, highly recommended.

Bach.
Mozart
Tchaikovsky.

Brandenburg Concerto 1...
Queen of the Night Aria...

Also Second Rhapsody and An American in Paris if you want great Gershwin.

Did I mention Carmen and Bolero as two must listen to pieces for working? And Symphonic Dances from West Side Story (or the soudntrack to the movie if you don't mind some vocals as well).
erik8asandwich (298 D)

Bach is huge. Cello concertos...Magnificat...Goldberg variations. Hundreds of other great pieces.

I also enjoy Corelli's concerto grosso in particular the one in G minor.
dipplayer2004 (1110 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
Yeah, Carmen and Bolero were both in rotation today.

My opinion on a certain subject keeps changing.
I'm trying to keep this as ambiguous as possible, because before when I've come on here with similar problems, all I've been getting is other people's opinions on the matter, which isn't what I want. I want help in forming my own opinion. Whether or not that's possible without telling you the problem, I don't know. We'll find out. More inside.
