What is culture?
I realise that maybe we don't get this explained in school; maybe it's not part of 'common' knowledge; maybe nobody reads obiwan's posts; maybe antropology is a cryptic art, hidden away from the prying eyes of the unwashed masses... So i'd like to ask the masses.

The most liberal teens ever?
Hey I'm back again. I just recently discovered this forum for teens that probably has the most liberal teens I've ever seen, at least in regards to sex. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. More inside.

well that depends. boring to watch or boring to play? ping pong is FUN to play...so is lacross, but lacross is boring to watch, especially on tv #wherethefuckistheball?

I don't know what I'd pick for most boring, but...

I decided to actually give the gymnastics a watch (haven't watched on TV this whole time because the tape delay ruins it for me, should've been live with repeats, damn NBC) but...

HOLY SHIT IS THAT GYMNASTIC STUFF INSANELY DANGEROUS!

WHAT PARENT LETS THEIR KID DO THAT!? O.O

I mean, wow...these guys and girls must be more athletic than half the NBA and NFL combined!

I'll take any of these people doing these death-defying twists over a 300 lb. offensive lineman...geez!

And what sort of deranged mind is it exactly that says

"You know what would make a good sport? Spinning between even and uneven bars that are far apart, spinning over the bars and between them and on top of them and twisting your entire body while there are about 50 chances where logic says you should be breaking your neck just about now!"

WOW.

O.O
Boring to watch.
I cant see how anyone would continue to *play* a sport that bored them... but maybe thats just me.
I'm with you Obi - I cant think of anything so "mainstream" that has such potential for _serious_ injury. Hardcore.
I agree with uclabb. Gotta be soccer.
Is that it? Or is everyone asleep?

Soccer. The players are trying to score penalties (acting). Goals are secondary.
I'll forgive its absence to this point since I doubt most people even consider it a sport - I don't - but NASCAR.

Golf. Second only to soccer.

I might have said soccer a while back, but I've been convinced it can be interesting at times, like the World Cup...

I cast a vote for NASCAR--

WHAT is so damned interesting about watching guys race in a circle 500 times for 4 hours?

So auto racing/NASCAR in particular.

Baseball, basket ball and American Football are all pretty dull. The first is a spreadsheet, the second is sport for those with ADHD and the third has 10 minute gaps between each bit of action.
GTwist (221 D)

Baseball is ok I suppose.. But basketball only gets interesting when someone actually misses. And well..American Football....well....if you wanna impress people and be al that...get rid of the protective gear :)
Octavious (2701 D)

It's a toss up between nascar and baseball. Probably nascar as at least baseball has the redeeming feature that it's not too bad when you're actually playing it.

Shooting contests.
You aim an air gun at a target so far away the audience can't even see it properly, then you shoot and the hole isn't even noticeable, and each shot takes so long...
Golf. NASCAR is only good when there's a wreck. Baseball is pretty much the same routine. Beach volleyball (olympics) it's pretty much the same play every time. So those are my top 3 most boring sports.

Soccer IMO is actually good to watch. Watching the last 20 or so minutes is fun.
2ndWhiteLine (2606 D(B))

I nominate cricket. Any sport that breaks for tea can't be all that exciting.
2ndWhiteLine (2606 D(B))

Football's only saving grace is television. Watching a football game in person is even more boring than NASCAR. At least in auto racing the cars are constantly in motion, but at a live football game with no commercial breaks and opportunities to change the channel, the teams run a play then stand around for two minutes. This isn't even mentioning the half hour halftime and massively long breaks between possessions.

Fun to play but have to go with darts. As a Canadain never understood a packed pub or arena or whereever the host high end games.People must be blitzed to watch others throw darts at board and cheer as if players just discovered the cure for cancer.

@2ndWhiteLine

Many people love Test Cricket but few actually watch it, aside from those brief spells when the conditions change and the batsmen get wobbly. It exists more as a backdrop to a good picnic, and pleasent background noise to a conversation. There is nothing better to have on TV than test cricket when revising for an exam. It is radio commentary where it really comes into its own, though. Especially when you're listening to the Ashes whilst lying in the sun on a beach within a stone's throw from some Australians.

Come to think of it, I don't know anyone who actually plays test cricket either.
Octavious (2701 D)

Oh yes, and I was going to add a special nomination for badminton when played by people who want to lose.
SacredDigits (102 D)

Yeah, gymnastics is crazy. I forget what I was actually looking for on youtube when I accidentally came across a series of videos paying tribute to gymnasts who suffered horrible injuries...it was tough to watch, but I could not look away. I think the first time I witnessed something like that was a live feed of...I want to say vault. The girl landed, started with the pose and everything, then collapsed on an obvious broken leg. Horrifying.

I've watched cricket on TV before and always found the announcers far more interesting than the game. They kept mentioning how one side lost a wicket. Seems awfully careless to misplace such an item.

Points Inflation
Not that it matters, but I'm just curious. Is there any way to figure out the inflation rate of points? More people join the site, increasing the total point count, and if you drop below 100 D you get them back, again increasing the total point count.

I recently changed my official email address for this site. For some reason when you click my profile, it still shows my old email address. However when I go to "settings" it has the new, correct email. Can anyone suggest why this is and what I should do about it?

Gamestart alert.
I am fairly new to this site and atm my favorite games are the ones with 5 mins/round. What I would like to know is it possible to add an alarm to this site alerting me when a game starts. (and if possible whenever a new turn starts)

Some kind of external program of some sort. I don't know much about scripts but I saw a friend use it @ another site and it looked quite usefull.

Countries without Armies
Mostly Costa Rica and Panama. These countries discovered that armies are bad and costly and the disbanding them was in the national interest.

The Curious Case of Jordyn Wieber Or, How Stupid ARE The IOC's Rules?
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/07/jordyn-wieber-fails-to-qualify-for-gymnastics-all-around/ I haven't watched these Olympics all that much...well, at all. (Sorry, watching it on an 8-hour delay kills the fun for me.) And I'm not a fan of gymnastics. But still...I really feel for that girl--all that work, and she's eliminated because of one of the most anti-competition rules I've ever heard of? People a dozen places below her 4th place finish qualify, but not her?

If a unit is being dislodged, can it still break support somewhere else? E.g. Munich support move to Bohemia from tyrolia. Can Bohemia break a support hold that Silesia is giving Vienna?

World Cup - Team Ontario needs a sitter
One of the members of Team Ontario is going to be away from August 3 - August 23. We're looking for a valiant spirit (preferably from Ontario, but not necessarily) who would be willing to take over the position until the return of our team member. I will bake and send you imaginary Internet cookies if you do.

PM me if you're interested.
