I don't act like this in real life, but get me on a site where I can mess with people for hours of entertainment, well...I just don't know what comes over me.

A proposal:
Anyone with over 100 games completed and a 25%+ resignation rate gets their account revoked. That's simply a ludicrous amount of contempt for the other players on this site. I'd rather play against multis than someone who resigns that damn often.

Dick moves
What's the most dickish thing a player on this site can do in a game that isn't cheating, in your opinion?

Not stop the solo.

Agreed.

When everyone is working towards the draw, then some player pointlessly throws it away.

^ Agreed.
That's even worse than going for the solo with massive CDs?
attacking me...

Hey threatening to throw the game is legitimate. Even beginning to do so is.

Quit the site in a drunken forum rage trying to force cancels in games, having the mods ban him and then coming back the next day and then bitching out people in the games he left who were upset with his idiotic behavior.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
15 Jun 12 UTC
Well "going for the solo with massive CDs" doesn't explain the situation very well. It sounds bad, of course, to think of someone soloing in such a way but I don't think it can be applied in the same way that "someone pointlessly throwing away a draw" is always, always pathetic.

its diplomacy!
as long as you dont hold the pause everything is legitimate.
how can you decide what is the best diplomacy?dikishness is also a form of diplomacy.

"everything is legitimate."

I don't agree.

People have commonly accepted rules. It's like when people play Monopoly and let someone off paying rent because they offered them "I'll make you a piece of toast" if I don't have to pay.
cspieker (18223 D)
15 Jun 12 UTC
What about whittling someone out of the draw after they've been instrumental in stopping the solo threat? That's pretty dickish.

oooo toast, aaaaaaaagggghghghghghghghghghgh
Sargmacher (0 DX)
15 Jun 12 UTC
Yeah, that is also pretty low. I don't think it's the kind of thing you would do sat round with your friends playing the board game but people treat online differently. But, then again, that is also why you get trolls like King Atom and Thucydides.
Yonni (136 D(S))
15 Jun 12 UTC
Threatening to let someone solo is one thing. Even helping them to the brink of it is legitimate but, if you can stop a solo and don't, then you're ruining the game in my books.

Also, +1 Jmo. I guess threatening to DDoS the game is also considered bad form.
ghug (5068 D(B))
15 Jun 12 UTC
Thucy is right though, it's perfectly valid to threaten to throw a game because people are trying to remove you. One time a player ended up soloing because another didn't take my threats seriously until it was too late, and I stand by my actions there.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
15 Jun 12 UTC
@ghug: That's fine. In that case, it wouldn't be "pointless", would it.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

"People have commonly accepted rules. It's like when people play Monopoly and let someone off paying rent because they offered them "I'll make you a piece of toast" if I don't have to pay."

Seeing that you're about to die because of your poor play and deciding to help the strongest player on the board so that everyone loses together with you. I find that dickish to a high degree.
ghug (5068 D(B))
15 Jun 12 UTC
The point isn't giving up the solo, it's diplomatically making yourself essential to a draw.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
15 Jun 12 UTC
Going for a solo by rolling through two or three CDs and refusing to draw.

Also, not finalizing when you're on the verge of defeat.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
15 Jun 12 UTC
When someone votes draw but continues to be a dick and ignore their vote and the solo threat.
SuperSteve (894 D)
15 Jun 12 UTC
Not finalizing to drag things out. How can you complain about a lunatic not stopping a solo because of suicidal vindictiveness? That's straight out of real life. Probably the most realistic part of this game...

"Seeing that you're about to die because of your poor play and deciding to help the strongest player on the board so that everyone loses together with you. I find that dickish to a high degree. "

I call that revenge and it is a valid tactic.Threatening to help the winner can be a effective diplomatic tool. I have used that approach myself on more than occasion to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat. But there is no point making the threat if you aren't willing to follow it.

The problem with throwing the game to the winner is that some players value a strong second more highly than a draw. This may be a valid part of PPSC play, but when it happens in WTA - it is dickish because in WTA there is no second.
spyman (424 D(G))

typo... But there is no point making the threat if you aren't willing to follow it *through.
smcbride1983 (517 D)

I agree with not stopping the solo. But, not in the event that you are screwing someone over that screwed you. In my opinion that is legitimate. But, when a solo is evident 5 or 6 years out and you do nothing but tie another country up, that is dumb as hell. Or, even worse, when a stalemate has been reached and a draw is imminent, but you just can't stand the wait so you stab the other person preventing the solo.

I was amazed when these two things happened to me.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Jun 12 UTC
No matter what people say, there will always be the diplomacy-bots who will chant the refrain of "but it's diplomacy, enjoying the game doesn't matter, being a dick is perfectly acceptable" and cite the rules as if anybody brought up the rules.
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Jun 12 UTC
Dragging things out only to not even put in moves, but just holds, not even out of spite but just to annoy everybody else. Somebody who was Turkey did this and delayed the game 2-3 hours for no reason in a live game.

Too Rich for my Blood?
Hey. It seems like a lot of players are disinterested in playing matches where larger point values are at stake. I'm trying to understand this. Until I do, I'm curious what everyone views as an acceptable upper limit for betting? Obviously, most players would probably be okay with a 4-point buy in. But how about 24? 64? What do you feel is a comfortable betting range for an Anonymous match?

Resorting to pure chaos when the game is lost for you?
Leaving names out so it doesn't turn into a grudge battle, what do people think of simply unbalancing the game when your own position is unwinnable? This occurred in a match I played recently, and to me seems like a viable strategy, particularly in non-anonymous games. If a player has a reputation for being purely vindictive in defeat, that seems like a credible deterrent. Your thoughts?

How does the Pause Option Work.?
I'm in a game and one player has been called away unexpectedly. He has asked us to pause the game until his return. He selected Pause. As far as I can tell the clock on the game is still ticking and the FAQ is not too clear on the complete run-down.

Can one player pause the game or do a majority of players in the game have to select it as an option? I;ve issued orders in case the game does not pause for this movement phase.

Autorefresh when turn is complete
Just got myself in trouble wacthing the clock going backwords to do my builds after a retreatment from Austria, The page didn't refresh when the retreat was ready, so, when I try to put my orders in I had only three seconds left.
Is there any way for we have a automatic refresh, otherwise we need to pass all the time clicking on teh refresh buttun? which make a 5 minute gunboat not fun.
