Springing Forward
Daylight Savings Time starts tonight for most of us in the United States, Canada, and several Caribbean island nations. This isn't the same date as for most other participating countries; consequently, this meant we all had to change our time zones manually when I last was on this site a few years ago.

Remember to Spring Forward if it applies to you, and remember to double-check your clocks on the webDiplomacy website after you do it.

Patton vs Lee
An interesting contest. Which General was better does the community think? Overall, for they both had their specifics where they would win.

My apologies to the players of "two?" gameID=82846
I'm writing to apologize to the players of game "two?" (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=82846) for abandoning the game. An emergency came up and I had to leave. I understand me leaving threw the game off balance for everyone and for that I am sorry. I hope I get a chance to play you guys again in the future.

Sincerely,
-nnfolz (Germany)

United Auto Workers bailed out by Obama
Why did Americans who don't work at General Motors, about 99.9% of the population, waste hundreds of billions bailing out GM? Obama's dependence on union money of course. Our reward
Production of the Chevy Volt halted and 1,300 jobs lost.

Random Person to Post Wins
We all know that the concept of "Last Person to Post Wins" is deeply flawed – it encourages excessive posting which is similar to bidding wars; only except of money, one constantly invests his free time to stay on top which favours the trolls the most, since they have no life and therefore plenty of free time. Random Person to Post Wins alleviates the situation of those who wish to win but can't bother trying. Enjoy.

Looking for a replacement England
England just left a surprisingly solid position in this game: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=81140

It's Autumn retreats, so England will have two builds and a total of six units before there's any new action.

Government "aid" to the poor, a success or disaster?
Socialists, statists, liberals and the like consistently, constantly, and incessantly claim that government administered aid is the "only" solution for poverty and uplifting the poor. Where is the real evidence of this success? The youth riots in Britain provide evidence of its failure.

America's Deficit and Budget Cuts
I haven't been on Webdiplo in about 6 months, but I thought this would be a good place to ask the question:

What can we do to stop the growing problem of federal debt in America? What can be cut?

NMR/CD First Year Automatic Cancelling
Has anyone considered adding this option? It makes sense that if someone misses both of their first year's moves, that the game is imbalanced. Would allowing a setting to cancel the game if someone goes CD by the end of the first year be feasible?

How can someone like me have money? My parents divorced and I grew up in poverty in a one-parent family. I'm obviously not bright. I only achieved a BA using benefits I earned serving in the US Army? How come a brilliant lad like Thucy doesn't have money and I do?

Government should regulate WebDip's Website
Following the logic that braindead socialists post on this site all the time about how government knows best then lets put their insane ideas to the test.
If government can run my health care better than I can then surely government could run Webdip better with one hand behind its back than the mods do.

A tax policy scenario.
This thread assumes that the economy is not a zero-sum system, but instead assumes that the economy is a dynamic system capable of real growth.
Thus any assumed increase in wealth results from the output of productive activity, and does not diminish the wealth of anyone else at all.

Why can't Unions survive on their own?
Mitch Daniels signed right to work legislation and union workers protested.
We've had unions in this nation for well over a century.
We've seen the "workers" of the state run a government in the Soviet Union.
With all this historical evidence why can't unions survive without coercion?

My city's sports teams are worse than your city's sports teams.
So, after the Leafs miss the playoffs and the panthers make it. Toronto will hold the record for active playoff drought in the NHL. We sit 4th in the MLB and 6th in the NBA. Eat you heart out Cleveland. This is the worst sports city.

I live in Seattle, our only team to ever win a major national championship moved to Oklahoma City. OKLAHOMA CITY!
^didn't the Bills win a Superbowl back in the 90s?
^^and I could have sworn the Mariners won a World Series.

But wouldn't Montreal count as a worse sports city?
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
08 Mar 12 UTC
-Nope, 0-for-4 those Bills went, the 4...IN A ROW...the first loss...WIDE RIGHT!

-Nope, the Mariners have never even won an ALCS and BEEN to the WS.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
08 Mar 12 UTC
And Montreal lost the Expos...

But as the city with the most Stanley Cups and second titles-in-a-sport after the Yankees...

I think Montreal has at least enough Canadien winning power to stay off the list. ;)

Blue Jays WIN TWO WORLD SERIES
Its just unfortunate that the Blue Jays are stuck in the division with 3 of the AL's top 5 teams (in my opinion). If they were spun off to another division, then I think they would see playoff and wildcard spots much more often
Fasces349 (0 DX)

@GF: What Obi said, the Habs are one of the most successful franchises in history of any sport.

On the other hand the leafs are one of the richest. Last year Toronto's profit was 3 times higher then the Rangers, who came in second place.

Despite being by far the richest team in profits and revenue every year for the last 30 years, the leafs haven't gone anywhere. However we should have won in 93 if it wasn't for that bullshit high stick by Gretzky.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAF FANS MUST BOYCOTT THE LEAFS otherwise the losing will contiue
Ah, i don't exactly follow hockey, so I was just thinking about the Expos and the still unused Olympic Stadium in Montreal
ghug (5068 D(B))

@goldfinger the Mariners won 116 games in 2001, which happened to be the first year I followed them, but lost to the Yankees in the ALCS. It went depressingly downhill from there.

Wide right...and then the Sabres got cheated out of a Stanley Cup by an illegal goal by Brett Hull.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
08 Mar 12 UTC
I didn't see the game so I can't judge. But yeah I know its controversial.

However it was game 6, whos to say you could have won in game 7 anyway?

Ours, we were up in the series 3-2 and with a 5 minutes penalty by LAs only good player, we would have won and gone on to play Montreal, who we swept during the season. Had Gretzky been given what he deserved the Leafs would have won the cup.
SacredDigits (102 D)
08 Mar 12 UTC
If you take another team into a game seven, there's obviously a chance you could win game seven since you're already won three games. And that was in the Finals, not the semis.

Hull kicked the puck into the net from inside the crease, which was specifically illegal even if it was accidental contact. But got the goal anyway.
Yonni (136 D(S))
08 Mar 12 UTC
Yeah, that Hull goal is up there with Kerry fraser's non call for catastrophes in sports.

I realize that the Blue Jays being the best team in baseball in the late 80s and early 90s disqualifies Toronto if you're looking back that far. Unfortunately, I was 6 at the time of our WS so that doesn't quite count for me.

Having to live in Buffalo is bad enough but beig teased by the Bills certainly doesn't help.

Our football team plays in a league where 6 of 8 teams make the playoffs and we still cant do it...

At least our Lafrosse team won and Toronto FC tied the galaxy last night but I thInk I'm stretching now.

The Blue Jays just got great news this offseason because of the playoff expansion. One more wild card gets in on each side, which means they have a chance even in that tough division. They could finish 3rd in the division and still get into the playoffs as a wild card.
Yonni (136 D(S))
08 Mar 12 UTC
It'll still be tough though considering how many games we play against Boston new York and Tampa. ESPN recently did their 'future power rankings'. Toronto was 6th in all of the MLB but new York Boston and Tampa were all in the top 5. Baltimore was number 30 though so at least we're not them.

The jays on their current course are the most excited I've been about a Toronto sports team since the Pat Quinn era Leafs with Sudin and Mogilny.

Hey, I live in the city of the Blue Jackets (last place by far in the NHL) and the Buckeyes (tattoo-gate, coach firings and bowl bans) ... Columbus has to be in the running here for "wurst"

Back when the Bills started the last football season with a string of big wins, including over the Patriots, a Buffalo psychiatric company ran an ad in the newspaper saying, "You know eventually the Bills will let you down. Schedule your appointment today."

i agree to toronto being terrible. don't forget Toronto FC of the MLS. Never made the playoffs in their 6 years of existance.
Yonni (136 D(S))

We didn't even score a bloody goal for the first year or something like that. And the UofT football team (not that anyone cares about university sports) snapped SEVEN YEAR losing streak a couple of years ago.
Im a Mets Jets and Knicks fan, my teams have never won a championship since before I knew what sports were AND I get lumped in with spoiled "New York Fans."

leafs always finish 9th...

Were always way out of the plays and then win 9 of the last10 games of the season and still finish 2 D out of the play-offs. Its like they're taunting us showing what they can do but don't want to.
DJEcc24 (246 D)
