Fools Rush In: Game 67704
Is this the highest stakes game played? Pot of 7000 D. I notice three players have voted to draw already, how disappointing. This is one game I would like to see played to the death.

Who is your money on?

Cheating in WebDiplomacy
I have sent a message to the game mods about a no ingame messaging World XI game Im in days ago without reply - and I think its a clear case of either A) metagaming or B) Multi-account because the level of co-op without any supposed comms is unbelievable.

So far nothing at all from the mods - not even an acknowledgement of the mail - what should I do?

The International TV Exchange Program
Suggest 1 TV show you think absolutely MUST be seen by others--and espeically those who are maybe in another country and not familiar with the show. The NEXT person who comes along must watch an episode of said show, and suggest one for the next person...and so on and so forth, until all shows ever to air on the Tube are watched by the WebDip community. :)

Ancient Med Stalemate Lines
I don't know if anyone is interested in studying or analyzing things like that, but I am. When I was first starting to play diplomacy (back in, oh, February?), I immersed myself in reading all about the strategies and theories that people had written articles on. Since discovering this site (back in, oh, last week?) I've really come to enjoy the Ancient Med variant.

Why Brett Favre is awful
By popular demand.
FirstPreviousNextLast

1. He sends unwanted cock shots to women.
2. He dragged out his many retirement/return decisions over too long a period of time in Lebronesque fashion. Like Katy Perry said, "You change your mind like a girl changes clothes."
3. He betrayed Green Bay by giving tips/calls to opposing teams (not his new team(s), but other teams) out of spite
4. He's a whiny bitch when it comes to acknowledging Aaron Rodgers' success.

He was always overrated and never clutch. The guy is an interception waiting to happen. And thats not even mentioning his horrific selfishness and terrible personality...

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7064270/aaron-rodgers-green-bay-packers-deflects-brett-favre-comments

Stephen A. Smith has got it all right in that video. The guy pretends to retire just so he can skip training camp. What a selfish bastard. I would rather have T.O and Randy Moss in the locker room over Favre...
Oh, and the announcers always used to fawn over him with the same tired cliches. "He's like a kid out there, just having fun", "He's a gunslinger," "He pops more vicodin than Nicole Richie", etc. Well, maybe not the last one so much.
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
He had to have his locker in a separate room. He played hurt so people could fawn over how manly he is, ended up tanking the Jets season (I'm not a Jets fan, but just saying). He's the leader in interceptions, leader in playoff interceptions and I believe he has a losing record on the road. Worst of all (besides the cheating on his wife who has cancer and sending unsolicited harassing texts to a woman and then lying about it) ,ESPN has adored him for far too long, even though the whole world knew he was a douche way before his "retirement" fiascos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iwFL6Dicps

And I agree with everything Putin says. Well you can't really argue against any of that since they are all facts.
Invictus (240 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
Well, for once we really agree. One thing, though. He really shouldn't be knocked for being the leader in interceptions. When you play that long and take the chances you need to to be a good quarterback it's inevitable that you'll throw a hell of a lot of bad passes.
I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a white quarterback do well. They're interested in white coaches and white quarterbacks doing well. I think there was a little hope invested in Favre, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he really didn't deserve.
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
He single handedly destroyed the Packers playoff run with that abominable interception vs the Eagles in 2004. He did the same thing vs the Saints with the Vikings. He probably did it a couple of other times I just can't remember. That heave against the Eagles was just absurd. How many so-called great QBs have multiple seasons where they threw more picks than TDs? How many led the league in picks multiple years? Did he just throw a disproportionate amount of passes compared to everyone else?
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
+1 Santa. Especially prescient considering the abuse the NFL pundits have heaped on McNabb these past couple of years. It's obviously his fault the Vikings can't hold a lead.
Invictus (240 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
We almost, almost had a pure sports thread here. Oh well.
Invictus (240 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
All I'm saying is that when a good QB (I too think he's overrated, but you can't deny the talent that there is) who takes risks plays for a long time the interceptions will add up. There are SO many legitimate things to attack him on, this isn't one of them.
if you dont get the reference invictus, you arn't a true sports fan.

And in my opinion winning a superbowl is to NFL QBs what winning an NBA championship is to Basketball coach. A long as you don't suck really bad *Cough* Kyle Boller *Cough* winning a superbowl makes you a star. As long as you maintain somewhat of a good showing in coming years your legend grows. Favre won his superbowl early on and praise was heaped on him. Payton Manning on the other hand, carried his team on his frikin back for the better part of a decade, and because their defense and running game never were up to snuff I had to tolerate the horse shit talk about how he didn't have it in him to win a superbowl. Thank god he won one.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
Eh...

I'll admit I have less respect for him than I did a few years ago...

But I don't really hate the guy, or find him "awful."

"Annoying" is the harshest term I'd ascribe him...someone "aweful" is, say, Mel Gibson:

Brett may have left a year too late--and I say JUST a year too late since the year before last he had his best season ever with the Vikings, and he was doing well with the Jets in the first half before the whole team fumbled things away, so really it was just last year that was a sorry exit, in my opinion--and he's been wAY too much of a prima donna of late...

But I DO cut him slack for the simple reason that...he's Brett Favre and, until last year, he could back up his bullshit with great plays on the field.

That's the Muhammad Ali, Terrell Owens life-philosophy I hold and operate by:

As long as you can put up, you don't have to shut up.

As long as Brett was putting up big numbers, I didn't care how much he blathered or cried or went on about how unfair they were to him--in his view--in Green Bay at the end.

(Now, ME...

I suppose I just never shut up and don't have much of a justification for that except...well...I like talking, and it's a short life to live and a long death to sleep through, so damnit, I'm gonna enjoy my talking times!) :)

You and Brett Favre have an uncanny knack for bringing absolutely every conversation back to being about yourselves. Congrats.

@ Santa. Just curious how people become Indy fans in NYC or wherever it is that you live.
I'm not an Indy fan, I'm a Jet fan who respects the hell out of the Peyton Manning (but not enough to spell his name right the first time around)
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
Eh, Manning's had some pretty darn good running backs. Edgerin James? Faulk? Addai?
should say the defense and running game were never up to snuff at the same time also. Indy has had good defense in recent years but shoddy running, and before when they had edj they had shoddy defense.
I actually wrote the above post before i saw yours. creepy.

THANK YOU, Putin!

Any comparison to one of the Top 10 QBs ever I'll take!

(Now, if I go on a tirade about how TC's a dumb, ugly guy and guarantee I'll "knock him out" if I were to debate him and say I'm "A very bad amn!" and "King of the World!" could I get another sports comparison from that talkative athelete? I PROMISE I have the ego to match his...) :p
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
I can't deny that Manning fails to show up in big games. In the playoff losses it wasn't really the defense's fault. It's not like they gave up a ton of points. But I should admit that I don't like Manning as a person either. The quintessential good ol' boy who gets away with murder (*cough* Jamie Naughright *cough*)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
I have to disagree again, Putin...Manning can win the big games...

He led his team to a SB, after all, and getting to all those AFC Championship Games required winning some big games, losing to Brady is no shame...

Speaking of whom:

I HATE BRADY...Manning compared to Brady wins as a person and QB every time in my book.
Invictus (240 D)

I thought I got the reference, but now I feel self-conscious...
Putin33 (111 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure he's been to 3 AFC championship games, which would be remarkable if not for the fact that there were several occasions when his team had byes and he couldn't win the one game it took to get to the championship game. I mean the guy's only managed to play in 20 playoff games despite getting there every year for over a decade and going to two superbowls. Plenty of one and dones.
Putin33 (111 D)

Want my vote for most underrated QB ever? Kurt Warner. Holy christ was this guy clutch, and did he ever carry teams on his back. Anybody talking about him the same way they talk about the golden boys? Nope.
"Big game" Meaning the game peyton lost, it ignores all the elimination game that he performed great in
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
06 Oct 11 UTC
He was CLUTCH?

Well...Warner WAS...

But still--1-2 in SBs.

And he ALSO blew a lot of leads after that 1999 season...and lest we forget, Manning--at least before this injury--has at least been consistently a Top 5 QB...

Manning fell from grace, was booted out by Marc Bulger, fumbled around horribly with the Giants for a bit, and then caught on with the Cards again.

A good QB and I'd say borderline HOF--I'd give it to him, to him and a couple other borderliners...come on Cris Carter and Roger Craig DESERVE it already!--but by no means the best EVER.

Most underrated?

...

A stronger case, but I'd still say the #1 underrated QB is a three way race between:

-Fran Tarkenton: Greatest scrambling QB ever...if his teams just could've won ONCE...
-Jim Kelly: Again, good poise and comeback ability...if the Bills win even 1 of those...
-Warren Moon: MOST OVERLOOKED QB IN HISTORY...VER SAD...
