How do you deal with people who keep fighting you as another player takes SCs and wins?
1st place has 10 SCs, 2nd place had 8, I had 6. 2nd place kept attacking me even as 1st built up to 12, 14, 17 SCs even while I went defensive. 1st place was eating 2nd's centers and 2nd was playing like an idiot.

How do you counter that? I wasn't sure what I could do. The last two turns I went all out desperate attack against 1st place and 2nd didn't even bother and actually grabbed more SCs while I put on a desperate push to stop 1st from winning.

Rodgers/Brees Combine For 750+ YDs Passing As GB Defeats NO 42-34 (NFL Predictions!)
GREAT opening game!
Fun shootout, 76 D scored, two great QBs...and it came down to the final play of the game! (Though, seriously...WHY RUN IT THERE?!)

So, with the Pack beating the Saints--sorry, Eden--the NFL season is underway...picks?

Question about muting
So, I've finally found myself annoyed enough with someone on the forums to mute them; not saying who as that would defeat the point of the mute, and I had a question:
If I'm playing an anon game with someone that I've muted, are they muted in the anon game too, or can they still chat normally in the game?

Quick question about Mods...
I emailed a Mod a few days ago about a Meta gamer, and I haven't heard back. I understand that Mods are all volunteers and have their own lives/games to attend to, but does anyone know about how long it takes to get a response (on average)? Or if I can expect one at all after they've 'investigated'?

On a side note.. has anyone noticed a stark increase in the occurrence of meta/multi gamers the past couple months??

Build Your Dream Nation!
Pick any 5 people from history to be your "Founders" and draft your Constitution.
Pick any 1 President/Monarch/Dictator to rule, elected or by military force (must be a different person than one of your Founders) and a mate of the opposite sex to co-rule with them.
Pick any 3 generals to serve as your Heads of the Armed Forces.
And choose 1 person to be your "Diplomatic Master" to deal with other nations.

My dream team:

Founders:

Thomas Hobbes- England (Works well with Locke)

John Locke- England (A Hobbes-Locke balance is my idea of a good electoral state)

Plato- Greece (There to help make this a Meritocratic Republic and not a Populist Democracy)

James Madison- USA (I think he did a pretty good job, all things considered, with ours...)

Otto von Bismark- Germany (Unifying Germany and leading it to prosperity on his watch makes him a good choice for another start-up nation, in my view...)

President/First Lady:

Winston Churchill- England (A bit odd, considering who the First Lady is...but the Roosevelts are my idea of a great modern leader, and Churchill seemed to have TR's fire and FDR's ability to preside over a crisis.)

Eleanor Roosevelt- USA (I was able to choose her before the President himself; no contest for me, Best Woman in US Political History in my view...and as close as any woman so far has come to being President, a MAGNIFICENT woman. A bit awkward she's paired with one of Franklin's friends and arguably his most notable contemporary, so we'll give FDR a Cabinet position somewhere.) ;)

Military Leaders:

Dwight D. Eisenhower- USA (Commanding arguably the most massive modern war machine to victory in the most massive modern war...that's good enough for me)

Robert E. Lee- CSA (If my nation's ever short on manpower, THIS is the man I want commanding them...the CSA wouldn't have lasted half as long as it did without his military brilliance, and if it had possessed more man or factory power, some of us might be playing Diplomacy under another flag.)

Napoleon Bonaparte- France (I can't resist putting one of my old heroes here...one of the most brilliant military minds ever, just update his knowledge and he'll be fine...so long as we keep him far, far away from Russia.) ;)

Diplomat:

Henry Kissinger- USA (Evil mastermind or misunderstood leader, there's no questioning the man was a genius in foreign affairs.)
alright mate, i've been thinking about this for the last what, half hour?
so far:

founding fathers:
adam smith (sco), economic genius
i also had plato, for obvious reasons
thomas jefferson (usa), although the US constitution was a collaborative effort, his writings are, i believe, the most influential
oscar wilde (eng), a little madness wouldn't go astray
still stuck on my fifth :(
PM: i also had my man Winston, he just commanded respect and awe
Military:
Admiral Lord Nelson, for my navy
Napoleon Bonaparte, and
William Tecumseh Sherman (when there's fighting to be done...)

and my diplomat would be:
Talleyrand, napoleon's crafty, witty, and unfortunate minister.
yet to decide on my first lady or my last founder. but i will get back to you
Putin33 (111 D)

Founders - Epicurus, Archimedes, Julian the Apostate, Marx, Lenin
President - Ernst Thaelmann & Clara Zetkin
Generals - Zivojin Misic (Army), Dmitriy Senyavin (Navy), Marina Roskova (Air Force)
Diplomat - Hiawatha
Putin33 (111 D)
31 Aug 11 UTC
Oh hell anybody but Churchill.
i would probably add HM Queen Elisabeth II as my first lady. She has presided over the dismantling of the Empire quite brilliantly and has somehow managed to continue to be a figure-head and much loved monarch, worldwide, in the age of republicanism

Haven't given this as careful thought as it maybe deserves, but anyway.

Founders:

Alexander Hamilton

Moses

John Rawls (just to see what would happen)

Montesquieu

Fyodor Dostoevsky

Leader:

George Washington (because he didn't run a third time).

Leader: Elizabeth I

Consort: Solomon (a terrible ruler, but a wise man, so he could be good to have around).

Three generals:

Rommel

Julius Caesar

Stonewall Jackson

Diplomat:

Machiavelli (again, to see what he'd be like in the real world).

I have to say...

I really like semenck's lineup...

And really displike Putin's (I'm sorry, but...with every great leader to have ever lived available to you...ERNST THAELMANN is your #1 choice for President??? Isn't that sort of like having your choice of any author in the history of the world to write your life story, and you choose Stephanie Meyer?)

And WHAT do you have agaisnt Churchill?!

The man was a bulldog to TR's bullmoose, and he and FDR are probably the most famous and greatest leadership duo in the 20th Century alone...
ulytau (541 D)
31 Aug 11 UTC
Since I would go for a semi-presidential system, I can scrap Diplomat and relegate his powers to President. Regarding possible mates, I guess my leaders can choose them for themselves ;)

Founders:

Amartya Sen - emphasis on positive freedom so that the poorest still end up OK
Sun Yat-sen - to give democracy two more pillars, good synergy with Sen on capabilities for people
Alexander Hamilton - someone with vast practical knowledge in drafting constitution comes handy
William Connolly - leveled up Madison, offering ways for public engagement
Han Fei - to drum up some tough love in my paradise and ensure that laws are laws

President:

Temüjin - just a general badass and greatest leader in the history, great diplomatic skills and ability to pick the right people for the right positions

Prime Minister:

Antonín Švehla - in my idea of democracy, a man of compromise is a must and Švehla screams compromise

Generals:

Jan Žižka - defense
Khalid ibn al-Walid - offense
Alexander Suvorov - leadership, training, logistics... mainly back office jobs

No ruler-generals and all undefeated, that's the way to go! Although they would have to learn something about ships and planes...

Thaelmann had more heroism and guts in his little finger than that bloated, murdering bastard Churchill had in his entire body. I can't believe anyone remotely left of center would worship at the altar of that drunken boar. Churchill was rightly considered a buffoon for most of his life. He cared nothing for the men who served under his command (Gallipoli anyone?), he cared nothing for the civilians he brutalized (Black and Tans, Bengal famine, practice gassing on the Arabs anyone?), he was a piss poor diplomat who was reviled by most who interacted with him, he was humiliated by the Irish Prime Minister after his pathetic attacks on Ireland after the war. He was a drunken imperialist of the worst kind. He also was a fascist appeaser, propping up the pro-Nazi King of England when people wanted him removed. He said great things about Hitler and especially Mussolini before he suddenly realized Hitler might undermine British interests. What annoys me the most is that history has been completely rewritten so that this buffoon is considered a hero by many and for no reason.
never mind, my bad :)
oh i think winston would have had a few choice, and eloquently quotable, remarks to make there.
ulytau (541 D)

Obi, some of those guys are underground in global context, notably Han Fei and Švehla, but really, apart from them:

Sen - Nobel Prize, regularly on lists of the most influential people of our days
Sun Yat-sen - maybe the only Chinese figure from the 20th century that is lauded in both PRC and ROC
Temüjin - laid foundations for the greatest empire the world has seen in those times

The generals are men who would reach top 10 in many charts of military history enthusiasts. Example: http://www.allempires.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13436&PN=1

I'm sorry, ulytau...

I was trying to focus on your Asiatic Empire, but I was distracted by Putin's puking all over one of the greatest men of the last century...

"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."

When Thaelmann can give such a speech with the full might of The Third Reich blasting London to smithereens and careening towards conquest of the free world...

I'll take Churchill on his drunkest day over Thaelmann on his most mediocre (that is, most every day, compared to Churchill.)

Founders:
Antoninus Pius (4th of the 5 good emperors. Seeing how prosperous it made Rome hopefully he would push forth was was probably one of only 3 competent system ever tried in politics)
Adam Smith (Founder of capitalism, need I say more)
Lee Kuan Yew (Prime Minister of Singapore, created the ideal city state)
Tokugawa Ieyasu (Now this one may be surprising. So I will refrain from talking about him.)
John Locke (GO FREE SPEECH!)

Oligarchy, High Council (say 9 people on the council):
Trajan (Trajan had everything, he was charismatic, he lead Rome to her greatest extent. He was considered the second most benevolent emperor. What more could you want?)
Winston Churchill (Charismatic, hardworking, WW2 hero. Good man)
Genghis Khan (conquered 1/4 of the world.)
Tokugawa Hidetada
Margaret Thatcher (Good Prime Minister, one of the 3 best. And one of four female leaders who I actually think did a decent job.)
Elizabeth I (Queen of England)
Victoria (Queen of England)
Hadrian (one of the 5 good emperors)
Nerva (First of 5 good emperors)

Generals:
Subutai (Great General of Mongolia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subutai after reading that there is no denying that he wasn't the greatest military commander of all time.)
Rommel (World War 2 great)
Sun Tzu (Author of the Art of War)

Admirals:
Horatio Nelson (Everyones heard of him, he must be good, lol)
Frank Jack Fletcher (Mastermind of the battle of midway)

Air Force:
Curtis Emerson LeMay (Inventor of Fire Bombing)
Hugh Dowding (Mastermind of the Battle of Britain)

Diplomat:
Catherine the great (Turned Russia from the backwards nation that it was into a world power. Mostly through the means of 'bedroom diplomacy')
ulytau (541 D)
31 Aug 11 UTC
Fasces, you need Han Fei as well. Him and Lee Kuan Yew would be the cornerstones of what I deem Fasces349's ideal state.

You also need to get rid of Rommel, he was only good as a divisional general, not in any higher military post.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
31 Aug 11 UTC
Well, you've thought this through, Fasces...LOL.

An oligarchy...not my idea of a good government, a Republic with the braches we have today and balanced, strong Legislative and Executive bodies is the best form of government in my view, but it IS your state...

Quite a few big names on that list...but will the room be big enough for Thatcher, Chuchill, Victoria, AND The Virgin Queen herself? XD

I do have ONE big question on your list:

WHY on Earth would YOU, Mr. Fascism and "we must restrict and regulate," want John Locke as a Founder?

If EVER there was a person who I woul've surely opted for Machiavelli or Thomas Hobbes...why Locke? You say free speech, but you've never seen too enthusiatic about Freedom of Voting for the masses, and that's the ULTIMATE Free Speech.

Founders:
1. George Washington
2. John Maynard Keynes
3. Socrates
4. Abraham Lincoln
5. Plato

Leader: Chingghiz Khan - Rags to half of asia, impressive!

Generals:
1. Robert E. Lee -- Army - suffered less losses than the north, also had so little equipment, etc.
2. Chester Nimitz -- Navy
3. Tooey Spaatz -- Air Force

(Here's another question:

Who would WIN if some of these nations went to war?!

Does anyone think they have a President/Military combo to beat Churchill/Eisenhower/Lee/Napoleon?

"Fasces, you need Han Fei as well. Him and Lee Kuan Yew would be the cornerstones of what I deem Fasces349's ideal state."
never heard of Fei

"You also need to get rid of Rommel, he was only good as a divisional general, not in any higher military post"
I know, but I still want to honour his name.

"An oligarchy...not my idea of a good government, a Republic with the braches we have today and balanced, strong Legislative and Executive bodies is the best form of government in my view, but it IS your state..."
One man can't be trusted with absolute power. So give multiple people that system.

"Quite a few big names on that list...but will the room be big enough for Thatcher, Chuchill, Victoria, AND The Virgin Queen herself? XD"
:D

"WHY on Earth would YOU, Mr. Fascism and "we must restrict and regulate," want John Locke as a Founder?"
Anything wrong with Liberalism?

"If EVER there was a person who I woul've surely opted for Machiavelli or Thomas Hobbes...why Locke?"
Not Machiavelli cause I haven't read the Prince, but it is one of the books I am studying in school next year (next year starting in a week) so we will talk then. Not Hobbes because I am anti-centralization.

Locke because I am a supporter of freedom of expression.

"Freedom of Voting for the masses, and that's the ULTIMATE Free Speech."
Freedom of Expression =/= Freedom of voting.

You are entitled to your own opinion. But it doesn't mean politics should give a shit about it.

"Does anyone think they have a President/Military combo to beat Churchill/Eisenhower/Lee/Napoleon?"
Your joking right? I would place Genghis Khan/Subutai over your combo any day of the week.

Just look at the battles Subutai fought against China, Kiev, Khwarezmia, Poland and Hungary.

And with Fletcher and LeMay, the ones most responsible for America winning the pacific war you wouldn't last a chance in any naval warfare.

Your men relied on the communications technology of the modern world.

Imagine receiving orders for battle months in advance, carrying them out and winning as a result of the tactics used in those orders. Orders that weren't changed once, because said general was busy fighting Hungary and your orders concerned invading Poland.

Now imagine what said general could have done if he had the luxury of the radio and telephone.

(this general, encase you were wondering, is Subutai. Hands down the greatest general of all time)

As for Lee and Napoleon. They lost, granted Lee was the only reason CSA got as far as it did, but he still lost.

Subutai, was the second in command of a force of 60,000 soldiers who successfully invaded a nation of 120 million people. They were outnumbered, with inferior weapons (Crossbow vs Bow, Stallion vs Pony), inferior armour (All their following campaigns used Chinese armour) and walls (while lacking the necessary siege equipment at the beginning)
