Can anyone defend Austria when being attacked by Italy, Russia and Turkey?
Can anyone defend the idea that a "power" can produce a better situation for Austria by diminishing the attackers' SC control in exchange for increased unexpected imposition of diplomatic pressure on the attackers?

Can anybody defend stealing from the wealthy
Something that has always confused me is why people say taxing the wealthy is fair. How can one justify governments taking quadruple the money on those who earn twice as much as the middle class? How is it fair?

Chris Hedges: Hitchens, Harris and "Secular Fundamentalism Caused Oslo Attacks?

Quite possibly the WORST PROFESS IONAL ESSAY I HAVE EVER READ. Stylistically lackluster at best and completely banal at worst, with an emhpasis on terms poorly defined and adjectives poorly used, it's message is confused and WRONG--WHEN has Hitchens had "twisted yearning for the apocalypse and belief in the “chosen people?" Only 2? Thoughts on speech: Non-specific political rhetoric meant to inflame his base and scare people. It was not intended in *any* way to actually move the discussion with his political opponents forward. It was little more than a 2012 campaign speech.

It would seem that the people elected 87 freshmen members of Congress that say they don't want taxes raised, or the debt-limit raised without significant long-term spending cuts.

The people spoke in the 2010 election in case anyone missed it.
perhaps if they spoke a little louder they wouldn't even need to compromise, but they didnt and they do.

Closing loopholes is not raising taxes, it's closing a loophole in legislation that allows people to avoid paying taxes.

Agree, but he contradicted him self twice. As in said one thing and then another later on.

"Closing loopholes is not raising taxes, it's closing a loophole in legislation that allows people to avoid paying taxes."
This, raising taxes during a recession=bad idea. Closing loopholes is what will increase government revenue.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Calling a tax increase closing a loophole is disingenuous.

Actually...they don't "need" to compromise. The House actually passed legislation. the Democrats in the Senate have not even introduced a plan on paper. Obama's plan offered ealier this year was voted down 97-0....so, the *ONLY* game in town right now is the House plan that has passed and which Harry Reid is unwillingly to even put up for a vote...

the idea of "Compromise" would actually imply that the Democrats had put a plan on paper and put it up for a vote...at which time there would be debate, amendments, etc. Without a Democrat bill, there is ***nothing to compromise with****.

Not a difficult concept.

By the way, you don't have to "Compromise" with the President on legislation. By the Constitution, his job is to sign or veto legislation that passes the House and the Senate. Until that happens, he can -0 and should - shut the fuck up, because the American people do not support him, and are sick and tired of his bullshit rhetoric.

If anyone watches Cspan it's fun to watch the Democratic Congessional leadership talk about "job's bills" as if the government has ever created productive, self-sustaining jobs.

@Santa...sorry...I typed more than 1 1/2 sentences. I know that means you will have a veruy difficult time reading and comprehending and actually responding with any intellectual thought. Feel free to act like your usual sad self and just start throwing insults now...

Sure they do, last time i checked they didnt have the votes, so they need to compromise

"the idea of "Compromise" would actually imply that the Democrats had put a plan on paper and put it up for a vote...at which time there would be debate, amendments, etc. Without a Democrat bill, there is ***nothing to compromise with****."

No actually it doesnt

"Not a difficult concept."

No it isn't but you still found a way to butcher it

Silly me, I thought you needed to compromise BECAUSE the president could veto the bill, or perhaps because it wont even get past the senate.

"Closing loopholes" = "Raising taxes" Someone define "loop hole"! someone tell my boss, who pays my wages, how he is NOT paying more taxes if his loop hole is closed...and then tell him how he is supposed to hire more workers and/or give me a raise since his tax bill just got jacked up? He doesn't run a business for charity..he runs a business to make money.

Oh...I know denis....living at home with Mommy and Daddy where you just stick you hand out whenever you need cash means you can't comprehend these concepts of business owners and wages....someday maybe you'll get a job and understand.

krellin (80 DX)

@Santa....No....you are **100%*** wrong. the House DID have the votes and passed their legislation. The Senate refuses to bring the bill to the floor. You are a LIAR.

Looking at the 2010 elections Big Government is a dead duck.

@Krellin: About loophole, loopholes means people who should pay taxes are not and found a legal way to get out of it. Closing loopholes is the only tax raise I will ever support (unless the tax raise is on the lower class)

@Santa....as usual, you fail to address any valid point of discussion. You are a sad, pathetic man. What must it be like to never have a decent response? To live your life with the agony of ignorance must be awful....
"@Santa....No....you are **100%*** wrong. the House DID have the votes and passed their legislation. The Senate refuses to bring the bill to the floor. You are a LIAR."

Im sorry do they have the votes to get it passed the senate and overide the pres. veto? No? Then they don't have the votes.
"@Santa....as usual, you fail to address any valid point of discussion. You are a sad, pathetic man. What must it be like to never have a decent response? To live your life with the agony of ignorance must be awful...."

Loophole is simply a name for a form of income that isn't taxed that Big Government advocates want taxed.
and you, again are the first to sling insults, surprise, surprise.
krellin (80 DX)
26 Jul 11 UTC
"Should have to pay taxes" Well....no....by law they don't have to pay taxes. Yo ucan't say that the law saws they have to pay taxes except the law says they don't have to pay taxes. You sound like an idiot saying that. what is a loophole? My mortgage interest deduction? Take that away, and a vast majority of home owners will lose their homes. By the way....that "tax loophole" is there because my mortgage interest that I deduct is actually INCOME being reported by someone else....the mortgage owner.

So...when you fools say "close the loopholes"....what the fuck are you talking about? Other than just mindlessly regurgitating things you heard on TV....give me an example of a "tax loophole" (whatever that is....) that you want taken away. Please be specific....and please tell me the ENTIRE fiduciary extent of said "loophole"...i.e. ALL whom will be impacted by closing this "loophole".

@Santa....sigh.....make a point, Santa. I will continue to insult you between actually making valid points in this forum until you actually get your head out of your ass and say something of worth, rather than just throwing insults. You TRIED to make a point earlier....I immediately slapped you down as 100% wrong...and then you just went back to insults.

How sad you must be.
I made very valid points. You said that there is no need for compromise because the House has the votes. I said that was bull shit because it doesnt matter if they have the votes, they can't overide the Pres's veto even if it comes to that, so they have to ****compromise****. Ignore it all you want.
I havn't made one insult, you are incredible!
denis (864 D)

Closing a loophole is increasing government efficiency because it stop people from avoiding legislation that has already been passed. Saying that it's raising taxes is like saying having less people evade taxes is raising taxes...

Drunken Diplomacy
I'd like to set up a live game for alcoholics at some point in the future. Every time you gain or lose a SC, you take a shot. Every time the year changes, you take a shot. Every time a nation is eliminated, you chug. The idea is that as the war goes on, you become more and more "drunk" with power... only for real.
