convoys over land
can't remember, assume the answer is "no": can an army convoy via a fleet that is on land? For example, Spain convoy via Marseilles to Picardy?

WTA gunboat play going down hill?
When i first joined site back in october my first couple of games where classic. After being here for awhile decided to try a live gunboat and loved it.
Lately i find that the players entering gun boats WTA are new to site and play is going down hill.Alot more wins lately then there should be in WTA.

i hate to do this but...
i have never posted before about cheating. in fact, i have posted several times arguing that the obsession about multi- and meta-gaming is largely a baseless witch-hunt
but i just played and lost a gunboat to azogar.

1) It's against the rules
2) It tarnishes a person's reputation even if they're found to be innocent.

Please let this thread die.

russia joined in 1902 as his first game. who does that?
who for that matter plays a 45 point gunboat as their first game? (austria, who at one point moved out of naples to apulia to let turkey slide in without support)

anyway, i geeve about the points and about forum denunciations, but it just sucks cuz there are other gunboats going on tonight and since Azogar is still online, i am worried that they will be similarly afflicted
Frank (100 D)

Azogar: what does rosik mean?
if you were playing clean, well done. your anticipation of others' moves was uncanny! never seen anything like it; its amazing--almost like you knew what the other powers were about to order. congrats.
Azogar (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
i have found "gnav" as traslation of "rosik", like a squirrel.

i anticipate your moves too... simply i'm am an experienced player and without russia is easy to win for turkey.

now i'm going to bed, so you can join other games without being scared :)

@abgemacht: I don't give a damn about Azogar's good name anymore. He's been convicted multiple times of multing, and a simple browse through his profile shows a number more that that the mods missed. This is now the THIRD thread dedicated to his cheating.

That being said, Frank, the proper etiquette is to e-mail the mods. Although I'm pretty sure they've gotten about 20 e-mails about this guy.

Also, this is a pattern of Azogar's. He plays a live anon gunboat, and when someone CD's, he creates an account to take them over, and then uses it to win the game. He's done that a number of times, and it's obvious.
rlumley (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
Also, it's not really against the rules. There aren't rules for the forums - only etiquette.
rlumley (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
Oh yeah, and Russia's account was created almost at exactly the time Russia would have gone CD, if I pieced the timeline together. At most, it was 10 minutes or so before.

Since when figle? :-P

I'd never seen that before, and I'll also point out that I never checked any box that said I agreed to it. Not that I have an objection, but I'm just saying.

Also, I don't think they qualify as rules if you don't enforce them. You all don't even have the power to delete threads (you should) and I've never heard of anyone getting banned over posting an accusation in the forums. Just told to do it via e-mail.
rlumley (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
Also, you should reply to my argument in the other thread figle. :-P

rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
15 May 10 UTC
Well, this is the third time I see a thread dedicated to this same guy, and the third time that is pretty obvious that he is cheating (at least to me).
So, even knowing that the correct way is sendind a email to the mods, it will be really good for everybody if the mods could let a word about it, at least to say "no, you are all insane and this guy is just the smartest and luckiest bastard around".
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
15 May 10 UTC
You know, i've heard that rosik thing before, when an account which has since been banned from multi-ing was gloating a win. Unusual coincidence.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
15 May 10 UTC
On the other hand, there have been three threads accusing Azogar, and - according to rlumley - repeated emails of complaint, and yet he has not been banned. Maybe this means that he has been investigated by the mods, and found not guilty?

Azogar: In order to lay this to rest once and for all, would you be willing to agree to a Moderator posting, on here, to confirm whether or not you have been investigated and found innocent?
Azogar (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
yes, i agree. moderators can post these results.
exonian (158 D)
15 May 10 UTC
@Frank: It's pretty much an aside, but one thing you cite is that a player joined a game in 1902 as his first game, and you thought this odd. My very first game was, I think, taking over a CD France which was all-but-dead. I, for one, wanted to get used to the game and the website before I played a game from the start, as it would have bothered me less to make a mistake that cost me that game than one which I'd played all the way through.

As I say: a bit of a side-point, but in answer to your 'who does that?': I did.
Octavious (2701 D)
15 May 10 UTC
It is reassuring to note that the mods do not ban people at the drop of a hat. The circumstantial evidence against Azogar would have had him removed from many similar sites. Is there another player on the site who can match his statistic of having a quarter of his games involve a player who is subsequently banned? I would hate it if this extreme bad luck would detract from his many glorious victories, such as his heroic triumph in the "noobs only-11" game a couple of months ago.
rlumley (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
@jamie: Except that he has been docked points on numerous occasions, and the Mods have confirmed that he is a cheater. I'll just quote Dingle's post in another thread:

"Hmmm... Azogar, the one thread noted above clearly states that the mods took points away from you.

The moderator stated in thread http://www.webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?viewthread=565408#565408

'Points won by Azogar in shared games with them will be removed'."
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
15 May 10 UTC
We now appear to have three, no, four threads on the forum devoted to Azogar. This is not healthy for the site. We need urgent mod intervention, one way or the other.

Mods, your turn:
Frank (100 D)

Fair point, exonian. but this was also a live 45-pt buy in gunboat on a friday night. not really a typical entrance.

Also, Azogar, the new russia didn't really attack you...sure, he retreated to Armenia but then decided to sit there and not attack Ankara or support back himself into Sevastapol. you somehow predicted this and didn't bother covering ankara, or support holding sevastapol. this was all in 1902, if anyone cares

in any event, your more blatant multi was Austria. though he could have just been an awful player...we will see if he joins any more games.

Frank (100 D)
15 May 10 UTC
also the most interesting part of this is that everyone keeps saying only weak players would try and cheat. but azogar clearly isnt a weak player. even when the multis arent there, he is clearly still a very skilled dipcy players. that just makes the whole thing weirder.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
15 May 10 UTC
I don't see any evidence of cheating from that game.
rlumley (0 DX)
15 May 10 UTC
Are you talking about the game the OP referenced? There may not be IP evidence (Not exactly hard to avoid), but I think given that Azogar has taken over CD's in live games before to his benefit, we should be especially wary.

And I think Russia's lack of move to Ankara is evidence. Probably not enough to convict, but some evidence, nontheless.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
15 May 10 UTC
Russia played Armenia S H Sevastopol, which I read as a mis-order from a new player trying to support the move from Moscow. He then went CD.

The best bit of evidence against it though is that I have found out who both the people are, and one is in Europe, the other in America, and there is no reason to suppose that they know who each other are.

How Do We Feel About Each Other, Nationally?
We have a LOT of political talks on the site, and I was wondering- Englishmen, what do you think of we Americans? And Yanks, what do you think of the Brits? And there is obviously more than one "American" so what about types- hate the American Left but love the Right, North but dislike South? Same with England (what ARE your "types?") And from France to Japan, Venezuela to Taiwan, Italy and Israel and in between... where do we stand?

David Letterman On The Space Program- Good Idea? (And Can WE Save This Thing?)
If you're a Letterman fan like me, he just said on the show, a great idea, I think- he went to go see NASA's shuttle take off over the weekend, and his question on funding: "Why not CHARGE folks admission" and make a big center, sell stuff... THAT'D generate revenue for the program! If you're a Leno fan- what's WRONG with you? ;) (But really, Dave or Jay fan, Robot Skeleton Army or "I'm With Coco," folks- how can we save the Space Program?)

The Movies You DON'T Like (And Folks Are Shocked You Don't!)
We've done a lot of Best Movie/Film/TV/Book/Philosopher/Character lists.

So, seeing as its Friday, a change of pace. Everyone's got that movie that they DON'T like, and most others do. So, sound off below, what's your "Guilty Hate." I'll give mine, and I'll tell you, hardly ANYONE agrees with me, they LOVE this film... (its ranked in Top 10 lists, even... and I jsut don't like it still...)
