You can't argue religion, because arguing requires reasoning, and religion requires not reasoning.

Arguing religion on the Internet happens over and over and over again. Stop making these threads; they waste my time and don't change anyone's mind about anything. People just fling shit at each other until the thread gets locked. So stop.

I personally think there is a God. I can't really explain how I think this, though.

Do you seriously just want a thread of 'I believe' and 'I don't believe'? Is it a poll? Or were you trying to be philosophical? Tell me you have something more to contribute.

Sometimes, Dingleberry, you know or think something, but you can't explain it. That is what Religion is.

This particular question isn't one that can very well be argued as either way you're not making the choice based on evidence. It's merely "yes", you believe so or "no" you don't. No evidence supports the existence and certainly none supports the non-existence of God. SO either way it's an argument of what you believe and where either side beieves you should begin (assuming that he does or doesn't exist).

Answering the queston though, yes I do believe that he exists. My evidence? As I stated earlier I really have none that could be seen as empirical so I won't put it forth. I do derive benefit from being Christian and see absolutely no reason to change that about myself. There are studies that suggest that religious belief helps in many ways (from quicker healing on average, and lesser instance of depression, to a solid and long tested moral code, and membership in a community that attempts to provide help to many people worldwide). None of these are evidence that God exists, but as I said that's not really an arguable question. Whether he does or not (and I believe he does) I'll remain a Christian.

Religion can't be explained. That is why I can't explain it. I am so used to asking "give your answer and why" because I tutor a lot.

Not so much that it's a silly question as it's just an inarguable one. If anything, I was merely pointing out that there are other questions on the subject that are easier to argue. I don't really see any problem with a poll either.

I have no problem with a poll either. Just the 'what do you think and why' didn't seem to go with the question OR with the OPs answer.

Yeah, I'm a teacher and do that alot too. After a while my students just give up and start giving their reasons without being prompted.

I seem to recall that God's existence was conclusively proved in an earlier thread. I can't remember by whom, or what the argument was, but I do recall it was case closed.

Personally I am an atheist, but this is not due to reason, but rather my blind faith, which is strong enough to counter all known facts to the contrary.

religion is easy to explain as folly and superstition reflecting some basic human desires. however it is a dangerous system of superstition in many cases and needs to be kept in check and away from any outlets of power
