Suppose army A moves to province C, supported by army B. If army C 'defends' by attacking province B, what happens? I thought that army C would cut the support from B for army A... thus causing a bounce all round.

Ask me for the password and I'll send it to you. The buy-in is 30 D, and I'm only discouraging noob play in live games after what happened in a game of mine yesterday. GAME IS WTA so the idea is if you're on "the brink of greatness" a solo win of 210 D might put you over that limit into the circle of champions (or at least closer).

Lol, well I did not see the draw, but at the top of my head it did not look too bad ..
Not that I expect S.A to survive the group, I just meant that the draw could have been tougher. Uruguay and Mexico are both strong teams, but they are not on par with Spain, Brazil, Italy , Germany etc.

And France, I didnt think that they had a strong team this year?

Anyhow, since Sweden didnt qualify (Portugal & Denmark pinched those places), I wont pay the World Cup that much attention :)
Troodonte (3379 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
Sorry about that Perry... from Portugal :P
Xapi (194 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
South Africa was a group head ("Poll 1"), they couldn't have gotten Spain, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England or Netherlands (The other group heads)

From poll 2, the better teams were USA, Mexico and South Korea, probably in that order. They got Mexico.

From poll 3, the choices were Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, teams of rather similar strenght. They got Uruguay. probably the worst of them but not by far.

From poll 4, the better teams were France and Portugal. They got France.

That's some bad luck.
Troodonte (3379 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
Just for curiosity...
My favourite national team (besides Portugal, of course) as always been Sweden... don't really know why... Probably because the team that I support had (in the past) some very good swedish players (Thern, Schwartz, Magnusson, Stronberg).
Perry6006 (5409 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
Right Xapi, then I get your point :)
Troodonte (3379 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
BENFICA is the team.
Xapi (194 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
Each poll has 8 teams, but poll 3 was divided in two, 3 South americans and 5 Africans.

The draw was made such that South Africa was sure to receive a South American team, and Argentina and Brazil were sure to get an african team.
djbent (2572 D(S))
04 Dec 09 UTC
nah, i won't be cheering for USA. i'll be cheering for Mexico, SA, and probably Ghana, since my people's land (Ireland) got robbed by those stinking cheese eaters.
Xapi (194 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
Why not Uruguay? :P
djbent (2572 D(S))
04 Dec 09 UTC
haha very well, or Uruguay.

Mexico b/c it's next door, my best friend is living there right now, and my god daughter is Mexican. SA b/c it's the host and I always cheer for African teams (b/c my best friend/life partner is from Kenya). Ghana b/c i like watching the games at a local Ghanaian place. But sure, why not Uruguay as well - i think a punk rock singer i like is from there...
BoG75 (6816 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
I actually think that SA ended up with a decent draw sans France.

Mexico is more than beatable and Uruguay is hardly a South American powerhouse. They needed a tough playoff vs Costa Rica just to get in.

Yet it coule have been better but it could have been a lot worse.

The clear winners are Italians who ended up with a very easy group.
Xapi (194 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
@ BoG75:

I agree about Uruguay, of course, although they are a rather harsh team.

About Mexico though, do you really think that to S.A. Mexico is more than beatable?

I think that given the choices in poll 2, Mexico is clearly one of the three "strong" teams of the poll, with USA and South Korea.

And the term "sans France" is like saying "except the fact that they were drawn the team that nobody wanted to play with (along with Portugal) they did alright" :P
Xapi (194 D)
04 Dec 09 UTC
@ djbent: I ment Uruguay so they beat the bloody French too.

@ BoG: Yes, the Italians (and Paraguayans, if you ask me) have it very easy, and so do the English (And the americans).
