On this server, can you retreat on an enemy's territory, i.e. conquer by retreating? That was never allowed in the games I've played elsewhere, but it seems so here.

Greetings, from the Commonwealth of England!

Her Majesty proposes that the game be paused so that the civil unrest in Italy can come to a conclusion, and that they might join the international stage.

Ok, I lied, I'm all for attacking france atm, germany actually, we could do both!

My moves currently are

Fleet The fleet at Naples move to Tyrrhenian Sea .
Army The army at Rome move to Venice .
Army The army at Venice move to Piedmont .

and will not be changed for the rest of this turn, that's why they have been finalized. I will be gone all of tomorrow as a sister is graduating, good luck discussing that out.

Meta: Can we please put our country names at the top of our posts? Also, it seems like every public press game I've ever played I'm England... I think I had one as Germany. Weird.

From the Office of Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of England:

Her Majesty would like to express her concern over the militarization of the European continent. Such warmongering can only be destructive to the good natured diplomacy that is at the heart of our historical relations and good friendships. Her Majesty would also like to express her concern of an overly militaristic Russia, already making claims to lands that make no logical sense for them to have. Similarly, Her Majesty rejects the Italian sentiments of war that it has expressed towards both Austria and France and hopes that these countries see the wisdom in guarding their borders carefully.

As to her own borders, Her Majesty sees the following division of territories as most equitable, but is certainly open to diplomacy on the matter. It seems most logical that the French Republique shall govern the lands of Iberia, including Spain and Portugal. Furthermore, Her Majesty feels that Germany is entitled to both Denmark and Holland, while the Commonwealth lends its governance to Belgium and Norway. Sweden, of course, should be governed by the Russians. Her Majesty would like to note that militaristic moves contrary to these borders will be considered, by the Commonwealth, acts of war, regardless of whom the victim is. Despite this, England is certainly open to diplomacy on the matter, as we have, historically, always appreciated discussion with our friends on the mainland.

To the French Republique: We request a demilitarized zone in the English Channel. According to the borders the Crown has suggested, there should be no need for either of us to enter these waters.

To the Kaiser of Germany:
The Czar of Russia has already expressed his intent for global domination and a general steamrollering of the great nations of Europe. Obviously, such a move would start with the We hope that you are as concerned about this as we are, and offer a mutual protection pact to protect against what may turn out to be a Purple Menace rising in the east.

Of course, England withdraws these statements if the Russians prove to be more friendly and less aggressive in their behavior, however England's primary concern is international stability, which Russia currently seems to be threatening.

To Frans Ferdinand of Austria and the Sultan of Turkey:
How is the weather my friends? While it seems our mutual countries may have little to offer in terms of actions, we wish to offer our warning about the Russians. They have already expressed a militaristic intent towards the world - I urge you to guard your borders carefully. They are obviously not to be trusted. Her Majesty hopes that she can count on your diplomatic and militaristic support should Russia invade our great country, and would like to assure you of England's support, should your sovereignty be violated.

To the Kingdom of Italy:
It seems that your statements are intended to dupe and deceive, which, if Her Majesty may suggest, will not win you friends in the long run. We suggest that you choose your words more carefully, least you step on toes you on which you didn't intend to step.

France:

It seems that I have my plans laid out for me. England has put forth a very reasonable proposal, and Italy has made aggressive overtones from the start.

So...

@ England: a DMZ is just fine with me.

@ Germany: How goes it friend Kaiser?

@ Russia: Your mutual protection pact sounds reasonable, and if Germany is overly aggresive than I may have to accept it.

@ Italy: It seems that you and I are destined to be enemies sir. It does not have to be so, yet, I doubt you will see reason.

@ Austria: Since Italy has made aggressive overtones towards both of us, would you like to team up against him? We would have him quickly dismantled with our combined forces.

@ Turkey: We may not be in direct contact, but when the time comes we could be powerful allies.

Dear Germany and England, a eccentric turkey obviously doesn't get the tone of sarcasm that is so blatanly washed over all my previous chats. If he moves on me, I can assure you he will have extra front open and I can assure you I will survive, and as shown in many of my games, I do treat the allies that prove themselves to me very handsomely.

Turkey:

Hello my friends it seems i have been deamed to control Turkey.

@England:I know we are far apart but i hope for alot to come between us in the end.

@ Austria: I hope you do not intend to actually listen to Italys words of a triple alliance between you Russia and himself. The Austrian-Turkish alliance can win a lot of games.

@Italy thanks for your remarks on an early down fall of myself you may forsee this coming true but i will be the first to tell you. You are blind.

@ Russia: It seems you have made England angry and more importantly i bet he has either gained Germany or France as an ally which means we should ally to fight the West.

@Germany: We have one country in our way to helping each other you know which country this is and an early down fall of him could mean our borders touching it could be a fight or it could be an alliance pushing east and west. You decide.

@France: So far away my messager who brought you this message almost died (the messenger that went to England died right when the message was given to the Queen) i hope for an early downfall of Italy seeing as he made no friends in his kind words. if this happens as forseen then i expect us to push northeast as a storng built alliance. Your call.

'Arriving late in Diplomacy is seeing Europe already divided'

Friends and nations of Europe, evil Turks,

the Reich stands as a stable factor among the nations of the world. And we want it to remain so, to acquire peace for the undefended peoples in Europe. Any overly agressive power will have to be taken care with, grundlich. As we Germans are renowned for our military apparatus, we will use Panzers for Peace! Now, to all nations respectively:

@ The Czar: we certainly agree to a NAP in our Eastern territories, Livonia and the Baltic Sea. Germany hopes this will be the basis for a long standing relationship. We have learned from our faults in the past and are happy with the present territories. It is hard containing the Drang nach Osten, but for the wellfare of Europe, we will. As for bouncing in Sweden, the Kaiser wrote an article about just that topic in the next Diplomacy World suggesting Germany should not always bounce Russia in F01. We will take in consideration the opinion of our western neighbours and the situation in the south. We warn the Czar not to try anything on Norway as this will considered to be expantionalism.

@ England: we thank Her Majesty for offering such a great proposal and hope it will be a basis for things to come. We will gladly assist your forces to enter Belgium as to keep peace between our western nations.

@ Italy: being unclear as you are we don't know what to think about your motives. We will certainly not engage ourselves in a blunt assault on our Austrian brothers. We suggest you choose a clear path to prevent more suffering to the Italian people.

@ Austria: We propose a NAP on TYR and BOH. If needed, at your request we will defend the Tyrolian hills against any Italian agression. We suggest you keep an eye on the unstable government of this peninsula and on the Russian bear too.

@ France: All is well, His Majesty the Kaiser has just brought a visit to his cousin in Sweden. How is monsieur le Président? We agree to the English proposal that France should govern the Iberian peninsula and hope she will respect English control over Belgium. We also propose a NAP in Burgundy.

@ Turkey: You're full of wonderful ideas. Combining our forces in an assault on Austria would bring the nations of Europe against us. And then we are very vulnerable... we suggest you don't promise to much. Turkey and France expanding northeast sounds... threatening. That you will so easily shift alliances bothers us and leads to distrust. Your call...

We thank you all, now to enter orders.

Befehl ist Befehl!

From the Office of Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of England:

First and foremost, Her Majesty would like to thank the Kaiser for his strong, kind words. We will gladly accept your help in Belgium, as you proposed. We similarly support your notion of "Panzers for Peace", and are launching our own program entitled "Destroyers for Diplomacy." It is our hope that these two programs, together, may unite the European Continent into a more perfect union. A European Union, if you will.

To the Prime Minister of the French Republique and the Kaiser of Germany:

It seems that war may be inevitable between your two countries. While this saddens the English people, we hope that your two countries may come to some diplomatic resolution of your differences. However, should war break out, and neither country has made an offensive gesture against The Crown, England will remain neutral in the situation, and attempt to resolve it through diplomatic means.
bishopofRome (0 DX)
10 Jun 09 UTC
Turkey:

I do not mean to make anybody feel like I will shift alliances I am trying to tell everyone what they could recieve from our alliance. Im trying to find out who would like to accept my alliance or not.

Let me just point this out one more time, france, england, and germany, one of you is going to have to die in order for the others to win,

Austria and turkey, one of you will either have to die in order for the other to win.

Russia, your just beastly, you don't need any one to win.

So here is my proposal. While everyone opens up non agressively I will make the agressive move and offer 1/3 of the Sc's of which ever country I make moves to for support. I know not which one that is at the moment as I haven't decided. all I know is my opening moves will be vrs france, but mainly as a defensive mechanism as you are the only person who could hurt me at this time.
