looking at the game in question, I have to point out that this was not a stalemate. france could have friendly sword could have defeated austria, at least in the italian centers

He would have had to take a risk to do so, and I could have support held, just like him to cause a stalemate.

The risk went two ways; and lets face it. I had a 50/50 chance to gain one territory. Then I had a 50/50 chance to do it again. But once I took the two Italian centres I couldn't get any farther.

Why fight when the only two options left are to gain small inconsequential bits and still draw, or to NMR or something catastrophically and potentially lose?
