Dip Directions?
In episode 11 of the Diplomacy Games podcast Kaner and I discussed longevity aspects and risk management of sites like webDip and vDip to ensure they grow and reduce the chances of going down (either technically speaking or perceptions of IP infringement). We said we'd create a thread for this for others to contribute. What do you reckon?

Phantasmagoria?
I'm a little confused as to how you would use the word phantasmagorical/phantasmagoria/etc. I understand the words meaning, but would it be used as a negative connotation or positive connotation?

Um, I agree?

Here is my two cents though considering that you wanted a discussion. I am totally for criticizing the president. I am no fan of Donald Trump nor was I a fan of Hillary Clinton. I will certainly disagree with lots of his policies like I would have disagreed with lots of hers.

What I find disturbing is people saying "He's not MY president." When did anyone get the idea that the will of the people of the United States as represented by the electoral process HAD to be in alignment with THEIR personal sensibilities. I will agree that Trump isn't the candidate I would have liked, but I will not stand with or condone an attitude where small (or even large) groups of individuals think they should tell us all what the government should do.

Unless anyone can show me where he wasn't elected according to the laws of the land that were in force at the time of the elections, then he is the elected President of the United States. I do not especially like the man, but he hasn't done anything worthy of impeachment that I can see.

So basically yeah, criticize all you want, but do not expect me to cheer you on if your basic thought pattern conforms to "I know better than the rest of you how to run this gov't!".
clarification

"I will not stand with or condone an attitude where small (or even large) groups of individuals think they should tell us all what the government should do."

That is, outside of the normal process of legislation / elections.

I am, however, completely okay with demonstrations. If you don't like the guy that much, great! Let him know that he has a lot of work to do to win you over. When you take that step to say that he isn't legitimate though, that's tantamount to revolution and you better have a really crystal clear idea of what we should all replace the present government with and be able to sell it to the vast majority of the populace on it.
Hey, how's that for pissing off both sides :-)

The exclamation mark made it sound like I was shouting and it wasn't really my intention btw. Cheers!

who cares if they say "not my president," it has no legal force, and if they break the law they still will be punished. I don't quite understand somehow if someone says "not my president" they are unpatriotic, but when a righty says "not my government" they are uber patriotic and some romantic ideal of American virtue. Its such a bullshit stance. What's even more bullshit is people like Anglican think they are special because they can "piss off both sides" as if they are above the problems of today. If you want to say not my president, not my government, or not my judicial system you have every right to do so, you do not have the right to act like you don't

Stupid fucking post by Anglican. Not quite surprised.
Crazy Anglican has the unique ability to "see both sides" of an argument and dislike both presidential candidates. #alternativefacts

“I am a spy, a sleeper, a spook, a man of two faces. Perhaps not surprisingly, I am also a man of two minds. I am not some misunderstood mutant from a comic book or a horror movie, although some have treated me as such. I am simply able to see any issue from both sides. Sometimes I flatter myself that this is a talent, and although it is admittedly one of a minor nature, it is perhaps also the sole talent I possess. At other times, when I reflect on how I cannot help but observe the world in such a fashion, I wonder if what I have should even be called talent. After all, a talent is something you use, not something that uses you. The talent you cannot not use, the talent that possesses you — that is a hazard."

More to the topic of OP, the government morally condemning the press for not reporting (falsely) that it was the biggest inauguration crowd in American history sets a pretty bad precedent. Almost scary. Even worse, it's the petty as hell.

I'm not sure that's even worse that it's petty, the government condemning the press on accurately reporting something SERIOUS (which will happen) is going to be a breaking point

Here's something you should take with you. Seeing a issue from both sides is not a talent, it is not a gift, its quite simple in fact. Less simple is weighing both sides, and deciding where you stand on the issue. This country wrongly teaches our children that being free of bias and being above the arguments essential to govern and shape society is a good thing, and it isn't. It is cowardly, it is weak, and it is completely besides the point. Great you can "see both sides" so can almost everybody else, just some people use their brains and their courage to decide where they stand. Then there are the others that are content to do nothing.

If the government will lie to us about something that petty, imagine how much worse the lies could get.
peterwiggin (15158 D)
23 Jan 17 UTC
You... completely misunderstood the point of that quote :-)
Regarding the OP, what does it matter, there is no truth anymore. The other side won't hear about this, they won't hear about trump aggrandizing himself in front of a monument to dead CIA agents, and even if they do, they will chose to listen to the straight out lies that are drudged up against his opponents in four years. Sure, he may lose, but if he does, it will hardly be because he lied and damned those who told the truth, how do you think he got here in the first place?
I understand the quote

the press or 'media' is known for pushing their agenda through distorting facts. the term yellow journalism came from the press of the day pushing the united states into the spanish-american war. why we think there is something new here is a sign of the current generation's ignorance, arrogance, and self-centered thinking that is evident in the tossing aside long held views of society and then belittling those who still desire to adhere to older or traditional ways. regardless of the 'right or wrongness' of those older ideas the fact of the ease of their dismissal sets up the same result for the current generation's 'norms of thought'. there was a time that a recent generation preached 'do not trust anyone over thirty'. yet they are well over thirty now. however it was their rejection of the previous generation's 'norms of thought' that accelerated the current disdain for their own. many of the truths of the human condition have been worked out before and for the current generation to think that their answers are superior is as obtuse and wrongheaded as the hippie generation was.

Conservatives- Resistant to change, confident in the status quo.
Liberals- Supportive of change, dissatisfied with the status quo.
If we stopped attacking each other for a few minutes these traits could be complimentary.
