I'm seriously considering going on a bike ride. I'm a 48 year-old who does little exercise, but this is for a good cause. Children of Gaza. If I go for it, could I count on the support of my webDip family?

Simulate f2f games
I think it would be really cool to come up with a way players could talk to each other and have private negotiations during live games. This would go much faster than typing and be a lot more fun. I will post a description of how this could be achieved in the comments.

But is the internet truly anonymous?
ssorenn (0 DX)

no, but most think theres enough anonymity, to talk in a way that they probably dont talk to people in person, friend or not

@JamesYanik, no rape accusations or jokes. We don't go there thanks.

@ssorenn, the internet is not anonymous, it was not designed to be anonymous, and it never will be anonymous.

Theoretically given the standards of cryptology, it is possible to find a signal and trace it back to a location or netkey, however detecting IPs and decrypting messages are more difficult.

In code-makers vs code-breakers the codemakers have a bit of an edge nowadays as long as they dont goof up. The internet CAN be anonymous jmo1121109. even from your own server

Anonymity is dead. There is no anonymity on the internet if your enemies are powerful enough to pull up your ISP records (which isn't too difficult - the police have myriad ways of getting your internet usage records - which ISPs have been required to hold on to since the '90s - without any kind of oversight). Even if you use TOR, the USG supposedly owns half the TOR relays in the network, although this could simply be propaganda to dissuade people from using TOR.

The only way to be truly safe is to unplug.

"Of course, I could go onto a public library's computer..."

Public libraries have cameras. You may feel anonymous, but the authorities will have your mug shot within minutes of wondering who used that library computer at that time. If you have to use your library card to access the computer (which, I understand, most public libraries do), they won't even need that.
fiedler (1293 D)
24 Jan 15 UTC
hmmm, well Tolstoy of course if the CIA is hunting you then its difficult, but for day to day stuff like this forum it is fairly anonymous.

If you use a public free wifi spot with a computer you have never used your real name, or contacted your friends on, the thats pretty anon even for the police.

The only way to be truly safe is kill yerself, yessir.

Internet anonymity is probably good, I guess. It allows people to say whatever stupid stuff they want to, but it can also allow them to be more honest, all without repercussions (unless they, you know, link to their blog with their full name in it or something like that, then it's fairly easy to track them down. Or, as Tolstoy said, if they do illegal stuff).
JECE (1248 D)

With only a few details like where you've lived, people can track you down.

LeinadT (146 D)

What anonimity?

There isn't any, unless the stuff that you spew is meaningless to not attract attention. If it is getting attention, there is no anonymity.

Or, if you're talking about anonimity on fora like this, it's quite simple: it encourages more audacious and forthright commentary, and trolling (in truth, the distinction is only in the eye of the troller).

@JECE. With details like where I live you could track me down, I guess you're Sherlock fucking Holmes

My point here, is I say nothing that I would not say right to ANYONE'S face. I mean anyone. I will also lay odds that most here are unlike that. I'm thinking 98+%. Could not say certain things they say here to someone's face.

Anonymity on the internet is like a 3 year old who puts his hands over his eyes and says, "You can't see me!!"

And the Hits Just Keep on Coming...A Coup in Yemen
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/01/20/world/yemen-violence/ "Shiite Houthi rebels overtook the presidential palace in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, on Tuesday, marking what a government minister called "the completion of a coup." "The President has no control," Minister of Information Nadia Sakkaf told CNN as clashes raged." Marathon Game
Hey gang,
I'm looking to start off the weekend with a marathon game. I haven't started the game yet because I wanted to wait to see if anyone was interested. I'm looking to play low stakes (<25) with phases between :20 and 1:00. Post here if you are interested.
