Game stuck in PAUSE?

A game that involves me ("The classic Is the best") paused over the holiday and all players except one, who was last seen nearly two weeks ago, have long since voted un-pause. The remaining players would like to finish or draw the game.

Are we remaining 6 doomed to look at an unfinished game for eternity, should vanished player never return?

Fleet Moscow

Why can I not build a fleet in Moscow? It borders the Caspian and could be used in an attack against Turkey. I realise that there is a rule saying that units can't moved to unnamed spaces on the board, like Ireland, but why not move down the coast to Sevastopol and then to Armenia? This wouldn't be a useful move, but should it be allowed according to the rules?

These are my thoughts, and I would like to hear yours: Israel's decision to demolish the homes of the two Palestinian murderers - a return to a policy discontinued, for good reason, in 2005 - is absolutely barbaric, and places Israel's claim on any kind of moral high ground in jeopardy. The two assailants are dead. Their families, however, are still alive, and they didn't kill anyone. Demolishing the homes of innocents will, far from deterring future violence, only lend credibility and support to those diametrically opposed to Israel's existence. I think it's absolutely disgusting, and I wish Obama could live up to the reputation that earned him that Nobel Peace prize, instead of bending over backwards to accommodate Israel and its human rights violations.

I have no sympathy for either side. Furthermore, why does Israel need the support of the West? Last time I checked, they've held their own against all odds since 1948. Just stay out of it and maybe the Muslim will stop hating the West.

I was referring to their lack of direct combat support from Western nations. I mean, I don't see USAF A-10s doing gun runs on the Gaza Strip or American paratroopers dropping into the West Bank. Of course, they have gotten basically all of their *hardware* from the West in the past, but since 1948 the defense of Israel has fallen squarely on the shoulders of Israeli grunts.

I would argue that they are militarily self-sufficient at this point (Merkava tank, TAR-21 rifle et cetera) and no longer need any political or materiel support from the West.

I disagree, Gunfighter. I mean, we only recently installed their Iron Dome for them. They're going to be in a very tough spot if we stop giving them hardware.

Iron Dome is very much their tech though, even though we in large part helped fund it. A lot of their hardware now is as good as, if not better than, US hardware. Hence India's decision to buy anti-tank weapons from Israel and not us.

Oooh, maybe they would be forced to negotiate with their neighbors on more even terms then. I mean, the new Egyptian regime seems to be almost friendly to Israel, Jordan has pretty much reconciled with Israeli existence, Lebanon is too tiny and dysfunctional to actually do anything, and Israel controls the Golan Heights, and is easily capable of taking Syria in a fight even if crazy islamists do take power there, or whatever.

At this point, Israel is in a situation where it can defend against almost any enemy that could credibly attack it.

And I can see where Israeli leaders would think that it's a good idea to do this. The Palestinians don't care if they die - they are going to be rewarded in heaven and all that as martyrs. But maybe, just maybe, they care enough about their families to not wish to destroy their livelihoods through terrorism. If people don't care about their lives, then find something they do care about and hit them there.

Whether that's the right strategy to pursue or not (OP's question) though is a whole separate question than the one I just answered though

I also understand their rationale, but I think they're creating more terrorists than they're deterring. I'm a little kid. My father hates Israel. He dies while killing people in Israel. Israel demolishes my house and leaves me and my mom and my siblings homeless. Or, I'm a friend of a kid going through this same situation. I'm not going to be intimidated into leaving Israel alone, I'm going to grow up hating the fuckers that made my life so difficult.

I didn't realize the Iron Dome was mostly Israeli tech. I guess the US has less leverage over Israel than I realized.

That some logic applies throughout Western interference in Southwest Asian affairs. Every terrorist killed by a Predator more often than not creates ten more terrorists. Israel's moral high ground has eroded to nothing between 1948 and now. The region will be in perpetual war until the indoctrination of young children stops. Want less terrorists? Quit bombing shit.

Israel has watched the policy of appeasement and how the US cut and ran in Lebanon under Reagan, so following a policy similar to Great Britain did in Northern Ireland will eventually bring peace. This isn't going to happen overnight, but out of all the policies that have been tried blocking attacks and cracking down on attackers with their families will eventually make them understand that they have to come to the table and make peace.

Right now Palestinian families teach their kids to hate Israel. They have to learn that it doesn't work and it may take a few generations to get the point across. Too bad European anti-Semitism is still going strong especially in long time haters like Sweden.

Please don't confuse anti-Israel and anti-Semite. Both are running stronger than ever, but only one of them without any cause whatsoever.

Israel has a very uncompromising policy, by which I mean, ridiculous retribution towards the wrong people.

Also, Sweden isn't anti-Semitic. Sweden is anti-Israel (support for Palestine), and it is somewhat restrictive of religion in certain respects, but Sweden isn't anti-Semitic.

Fun fact: Semite refers to a larger group than just Jew, for example, Semite includes Arabs. Anti-Semitism, somehow, only applys to Jews, not sure why.

Sweden has a history of anti-Semitism from long before the creation of Israel. While some individuals have helped Jews, the overall state policy has been to keep Jews out so as not to pollute Christian religion in Sweden.

Anti-Semiticism has been traced back to Egypt before its rise in Europe in the Middle Ages. It's been applied to Jews by other Semite tribes in the Mid East.

Currently, is Sweden actually anti-Semitic? I haven't heard of attacks on Jews, of hate-filled rhetoric, or any of those things from Sweden. Clearly you are better informed than I am.

Saying, "these people were hated somewhere sometime" is almost entirely pointless. I can't think of a single group that hasn't ever been oppressed for what they were born as.

Many Western European nations are becoming more and more anti-Semitic due to their anti-Israeli stance. They are different things but they go hand in hand, just as policy against Iran and Iraq here lead to Islamophobia to those that can't differentiate people from a government.

I'm amazed that nobody has pointed out that the terrorists' families get paid obscene sums of money for murdering innocents. Many people become terrorists, not for ideological reasons, but simply to help their families out. By destroying their houses, Israel is trying to create an economic disincentive to terrorism. Believe me, the families are fine afterwards; they get paid more for terrorism than the value of the house.

2014 Webdiplomacy Tournament Update

Discount for taking over left position

Is it still under consideration to allow people to take of left positions for half price? This could encourage a lot more players to join games in progress. The pot has already been paid, so it's bonus money for the current players, and incentive to come in at a disadvantage (often).
