Potentially stupid question - but how on earth has that taken so long to prove? What is it at least a week? Wasn't it obvious very quickly?

Possibly Kestas was busy.

With all due respect (and I'm not exactly the rebellious sort on the forums) but someone got banned the other day because his email bounced back, and it was within 24hrs, taking over a week to answer what shouldve been a very simple query seems a little odd ?

Also I may be imagining this but I thought Synapse actually claimed this waaaaayyyy back before this whole forum thing happened...

It just took us a little time to verify all the information with kestas.

And if anyone is planning to debate the appropriateness of THIS action (very specifically).......why would you?

SYnapse had semi-left anyway so it may have been seen as less urgent than banning someone who was actively cheating in current games, pjman.

I'd be very curious to know what DipRepublic has to say about this.

Genuinely not trying to stir trouble (I think its pretty obvious thats not my style) but it just seemed a little odd to me that suddenly after everything has settled down and well over a week later its all dragged up again. Just wanted to get an understanding of what had happened

@pjman, Kestas isn't too active right now, that's a big reason why he agreed to have Zultar as a co-owner. Because he just doesn't have the time right now to be active on the forum enough to maintain it.

I can't speak for the mods (but I will anyway). An attack on the site is a very serious and complicated offense. If it takes a while not only to figure out exactly what happened and how best to handle it, I think that's perfectly fine. This was clearly not a run-of-the-mill cheating case that the mods are accustom to handling. I don't think there's anything odd that this took longer to sort out than normal issues.

So, if I understand this correctly:

(1) SYnapse creates a fake webDip mod gmail account
(2) He uses this account to "test the security" of the site (??)
(3) SYnapse claims that he had Kestas' blessing
(4) Mods ask Kestas who then denies agreeing to this
(5) SYnapse is banned.

Is this the order of events?

To be clear, I have no knowledge of the situation other than what was posted here. I'm just saying nothing seems out of place based on my understanding. It all seems perfectly reasonable and well handled.

Here is what SYnapse has to say about it on DipRepublic for anyone who doesn't want to give hits to that site:

So, let me get this straight:

SYnapse claims to have attacked the site with Kestas' blessing. Kestas denied he had any such dealings with SYnapse. SYnapse is banned for attacking the site.

Seems pretty clearcut to me.

Now we are banning people for violating Google's TOS. I hope Google appreciates this vigilante justice.

He was purposefully trying to trick users into emailing him instead of the mods with site issues. What do you want?

Abgemacht, do you not believe that SYnapse was acting benevolently, as "part of the ongoing checks" he was doing with Kestas, all aimed at protecting Webdip from "the dangers of social engineering".
