Kestas is not willing to make changes to forum policy without feedback from members, and that is something no one will give him. It’s part of the reason abge does not want to be an active forum moderator anymore, because despite his best efforts to poll the site members, his attempts to gauge what everyone want end up derailed, and no one will email their thoughts to Kestas.
So what I decided to do was to make a point, to Kestas, to abge, but mainly to everyone on the forum.
I picked a thread that was disgusting, one that supported the death of students and kids, and was made on the anniversary of D-Day. The reason I picked this thread is because if anyone on the site listened to Kestas, you would have simply muted this thread if it offended you. That is what the moderator team has been suggesting for years now.
Despite this, dozens of people saw my rants against mapleleaf. Proving that people do not like and/or use the mute button.
So here is my question, why haven’t you emailed Kestas about this? If you don’t like a feature on this site that is a corner stone of the moderator policy, why won’t you speak up about it?
The moderator team cannot change the site policy, Kestas can, and is open to everyone’s suggestions, but that doesn't help anyone if you all refuse to tell him what you want on this site.
So please answer this question, which of the following two options would you prefer?
1) The current setup, where any member is welcome to post anything they want on the forum. With no limits whatsoever, where all members are allowed to post accordingly, including moderators. Where forum moderation is completely controlled by the mute button. Where moderators can only recommend members use the mute feature if they are offended by a post.
2) A setup where members are allowed to post whatever they want on the forum. But where forum moderators have the discretion to lock threads and issue warnings for the few cases where a member’s behavior is so vulgar that it would probably get you arrested for speaking it in public in any country. The mute function would still be available, but it would not be the sole forum of moderation. In which case forum moderators would be expected to act more professionally then they are currently
I’ll wrap this up by again apologizing to anyone who read my vulgar posts, and to Maple. Despite being a jerk in the way you presented your opinions, you didn't deserve the slamming I gave you for it. Hopefully it wasn't in vain and everyone can now work together to come up with exactly what forum members want since we've proven that some members aren't comfortable with the current setup.
