Hi all, for those who are following along and not in the tournament, I'm in need of a sub for a gunboat game. If you are interested, please contact me.

Group C FP1 has ended in a draw between California, South and Canada. I think this one had some legs left in it, but we're setting up for a tight race in Group C!
Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Happy World Cup day everyone! I had hoped to use this occasion to launch the finals of this tournament; but alas, things haven't exactly gone out as planned. Instead, I'll take this opportunity to highlight each of the 8 games we have left to go in the groups stage, and celebrate what joys this tournament has brought us already.
Starting in Group A, we have Full Press 2 . This one features an interesting and tumultuous East, as Austria's ploy to eliminate Turkey seems to have backfired. And France is finally making headway against England.
Next, we have Public Press. This one is obstensibly all wrapped up, and may very well be done by the time I finish writing this, but has been an interesting game to follow nonetheless.
Group A's gunboats 1 and 2 are both very exciting games to watch and have major current solo threats. Will they be able to do it in time before the 1920 deadline though? Only time will tell.
On to Group B, Full Press 1 is locked in a mire of pauses and substitutions, but will hopefully one day start up again. Once it does, there's an intriguing Russian solo push and a cobble of alliances stacked together against it.
Gunboat 2 features a similar ragtag group of Powers up against a very large Germany. This one will be interesting to see how it plays out, as there's a lot that can happen still.
In Group C, Public Press features a relatively balanced triumvirate of Powers and another triumvirate of single center powers just struggling to survive. It will be very interesting to see how this one shakes out, so make sure you watch it!
And finally, Gunboat 2 features four very balanced powers that are currently in a stable alliance system. It'll be interesting to see how this one shakes up as teams review their scores and discuss strategies.
Anyways, that's all for now. I just wanted to give a little update on the progress of the tournament to mark this occasion, and a thank you to all the teams and players for making this tournament happen and so exciting to watch. Here's to hoping the Group Stages are wrapped by the time the actual World Cup Final happens.

I worry that the trophy for the winning team may be a bit anticlimactic. What other trophies and awards are up for grabs in this tournament?

We're not your neighborhood youth soccer organization. Only one team is showered in glory.

Also, this means that Cascadia is guaranteed to be at least the 7th best team in the field, and has thus clinched a spot in the Finals along with Greatest Lakes!

Group C GB2 has ended in a draw by Teams California, Canada, and Upper Mississippi. An exciting finish! Scoring tables have already been updated
Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Wow. Group C might be decided by a VAR review of a potential PK in the 93rd minute

I would suggest calling them by their listed team name to avoid confusion...goldfinger0303 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 7:47 pmCongratulations to chluke and Team Mid-Atlantic for their solo in Group A GB1!

Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Congratulations to Team Netherlands and Vecna on the solo in Group AGB2! Another unexpected result.

Seriously though, I didnt think this one would end in a solo. Had England - at any point - popped Ska, then there was an easily defensible line.
But we're now down to 3 active games left! One in each group! We have some exciting group finishes left to come. Hopefully they'll finish up and we can start the Finals before the real World Cup Finals are over haha.
