We really could use a specific definition of what "meta-gaming" is. It seems like there is a huge spectrum here. Everything from definitive cheating on one hand to using common sense on the other.

It seems like there is a school of thought that says 1) looking at a person's game history, 2) figuring out that they stab early and often and then 3) stabbing them first is meta-gaming.

Hard to have a discussion about a topic when we don't really agree what we are discussing.
While I do agree that putting what jmo essentially said into the formal rules, with some additional details, wouldn’t be a bad thing and would help shape the site cultures philosophy about meta gaming the truth is it only really gets applied to the smaller subset of morons dumb enough to verbalized their motivations or be absurdly blatant about it. If you’re being that outwardly douchey about it then you’re probably already breaking some form of fair-play rule of conduct already and deserve a solid boot out the door. Grey area meta gaming is most often subtle anyways so telling people not to enter a game and attack somebody because they didn’t like what they said In the forum or did last game unfortunately probably isn’t going to be easily proven or enforceable.

I think that if someone stabbed you in the last 3 games and you end up together in a 4th you are entitled to be suspicious and look for alliances elsewhere, even if it means that not everyone has the same chance of winning.
