USA: A shithole country
With a shithead president...
Or should we possibly label it a "bullethole" country which is killing its schoolkids on a regular basis?
Croak, I promise to read your postings in this thread since you did not start it.

Re: USA: A shithole country
I fully disagree. The president is crazy, but the country is mostly very nice (including the people).
Re: USA: A shithole country
Ksako8: Do you also disagree with the "bullethole" country part? What about all the schoolkids being murdered?
Re: USA: A shithole country
Ksako8. Nice poeple you say... They elected the shithead into office... or they did not vote for the other candidate... and they allow schoolkids to continue to be murdered... Really nice indeed!

@Peterlund FYI unfortunately I think Croak is British rather than American.

Re: USA: A shithole country
The USA certainly has room for improvement, but people aren't stupid, and the direction of migration is overwhelming into the USA rather than out of it.
And while countries such as Dubai might have a larger percentage of immigrants against a small population base, or India and South Africa a large absolute number from neighboring countries, the USA is almost in a league of its own with respect to large scale immigration from essentially everywhere.
This suggests that the USA is on balance not a shithole.

Re: USA: A shithole country
Immigration to the EU dwarfs immigration to the US. So I had call it a league of its own.Incrementalist wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 1:43 amThe USA certainly has room for improvement, but people aren't stupid, and the direction of migration is overwhelming into the USA rather than out of it.

Re: USA: A shithole country
Does it? Can you cite a source for this?
And would they be using the same definition of immigrant? (In the USA a person born to immigrant parents in the country is a citizen, not another immigrant).

Re: USA: A shithole country
I'm pretty sure that the population of the US born outside of the US is considerably higher than the population of the EU born outside of the EU. Something like 12% to 6%.
Of course the EU likes to call someone from one part of the EU moving to another an immigrant, which can make EU immigration look a lot higher than it actually is.

Re: USA: A shithole country
I managed to find some data though it is not perfectly comparable.
In 2010–2012, 311.6 million people
lived in the United States, including 289.3 million citizens and 22.3
million noncitizens (Table 1). See
https://www.census.gov/prod/2014pubs/acsbr12-06.pdf
In Europe the noncitizen population in 2017 was 22 million. See http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics ... _in_the_EU
So the immigrant population of the US six years ago was about the same as the immigrant population of Europe 1 year ago, against roughly comparable population bases. As such the matter of European immigration dwarfing US immigration is not the case.
Moreover in the US anyone born in the country (even to parents who are in the country illegally) is a US citizen, whereas in many countries in Europe children of immigrants are counted as noncitizens. In France for instance this more than doubles the figure put forth for noncitizens (which reports 11.8 million noncitizens, with 6.5 million of that total being children born in the country). See the "France" section of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_Europe
When you take into account who is being counted as an immigrant, I don't think the numbers for the EU make it nearly as popular a destination as the USA.

Re: USA: A shithole country
Sorry for the string of posts but I did find directly comparable numbers.
EU population born outside of the EU (lower-right corner of chart):
31.368 million out of 501.098 = 6.2% from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigrati ... pean_Union
USA population born outside USA:
40 million out of 310 million = 12.9% https://www.census.gov/newsroom/pdf/cspan_fb_slides.pdf
So the USA is 50% more popular among migrants relative to Europe in absolute numbers, and over twice as popular percentage-wise, which suggests the USA is definitely not a shithole.
Now I gotta go to work.

A good society takes care of its school kids.
A good society takes care of their sick.
A good society is not flooded with guns.
A good society gives a job to everyone that wants to work.
A good society make sure everyone gets a proper education.
A good society gives equal chances to all ethnic groups regardless of skin colour.
A good society lets everyone enjoy their civil and human rights.
A good society gives everyone equal freedom of speech.
A good society gives everyone an equal vote.
A good society does not have police force that kill black people or other minorities.
A good society let the rich pay more taxes than the poor, not the opposite.
A good society has its fiscal budget in balance.
A good society does not have KKK, Fox news channel and a shithead president.
USA fails on all accounts, hence it is clearly a shithole country!

Ok, I got it. He's one of your imbéciles. Since I don't read any from him, I was not able to tell that he was from the UK. Thanks for the info.

Re: USA: A shithole country
The USA has room for improvement in many areas, but among ambitious migrants choosing a new home, it remains the most popular destination.
The number of people actively moving into an area relative to those moving out of it is an excellent metric for non-shitholeness, and the USA shines in this regard.

Re: USA: A shithole country
