Left wing political activists and Rupert Murdoch don't have a great deal in common, but one thing that unites many of them is an unshakable belief in the power and influence of Rupert Murdoch.
This is, of course, utter bollocks. The Sun, regardless of what it likes to say in its headlines, has never won anything. The British press, even at their most powerful, followed rather than led. They have some power, of course. They can highlight some issues, and be deliberately silent on others, but their ability to persuade is limited.
A recent poll of traditional Tory newspaper readership voting internations has made this even more obvious. Your typical Sun reader is much more likely to be a Labour voter than a Tory. Remarkably this is also true of Telegraph readers and Express readers. Only the Mail, traditionally the newspaper aimed at the female market, remains Tory leading

Re: The Murdoch Myth
The effect of the right wing press can be over-stated. That is true. However, it's not complete bollocks. These statistics don't exist in a vacuum, and have to be interpreted in the context of the overall national picture in 2024, which shows us that after years of well-publicised incompetence and corruption, the Conservative Party is currently VERY unpopular with nearly everyone.
The most recent polls* have the overall UK voting intention at:
Labour: 44%
Conservative: 23%
Reform Party: 12%
So it still appears that:
Of the Sun's readership 6% fewer would vote Labour than the national average, and 2% more would vote Tory.
Among the Telegraph's readership, the Labour vote is 13% below the national average, and the Tory vote is 3% higher.
Among the Daily Express's readership, the Labour vote is again 13% below the national average, and the Tory vote is 2% higher.
I'm interested that 43% of Telegraph readers and 44% of Express readers don't intend to vote Labour or Conservative. Who are they likely to vote for? If the Reform Party is in third place in that sample, it's worth noting that the Sun and the Express give an absolute shitload of free publicity to Nigel Farage and whatever rosette that fucking scumbag is currently wearing.

The only person you're truly competing against, Wesley, is yourself.

Re: The Murdoch Myth
If Rupert's political influence in Britain is as asserted, then why do most British politicians behave like sycophantic door mats for Rupert?
