This is, of course, utter bollocks. The Sun, regardless of what it likes to say in its headlines, has never won anything. The British press, even at their most powerful, followed rather than led. They have some power, of course. They can highlight some issues, and be deliberately silent on others, but their ability to persuade is limited.
A recent poll of traditional Tory newspaper readership voting internations has made this even more obvious. Your typical Sun reader is much more likely to be a Labour voter than a Tory. Remarkably this is also true of Telegraph readers and Express readers. Only the Mail, traditionally the newspaper aimed at the female market, remains Tory leading
