Not known for government, music or acting.

I’m in my phone so can’t update the known information, but I believe that was Question #10.

I think the QM has set us a fascinating challenge. It is hard for me to come up with anyone famous who fits the criteria so far. We still don't know the sport he played, or the other thing(s) he is famous for.

Was he famous for golfing, boxing, racing, or playing pool?

Definitions: "racing" could be any of car racing, horse racing, bicycle racing, or foot racing. "Pool" means any game like billiards, snooker, etc..

Yes, but here's where I'll drop the hint. He was a professional athlete, but that's kind of tangential as he was not a very successful one and became much better known as something else.

1, 7. Real human male, born between Jan 1, 1901 and Sep 1 / 39.
6, 9. Born in the Americas, north of 30 degrees North.
12. White US citizen.

5, 14. "E" in their full first name; but not Robert, James, Charles, George, Joseph, Edward, Walter, Henry, or Albert.
8, 11, 13, 15. A professional golfer, boxer, racer or pool player; never competed at Olympic Games. Much more famous for other exploits.
10. Not known for government, music or acting.

I would say yes to that.

6, 9. Born in the Americas, north of 30 degrees North.
12. White US citizen.

Did the sport, in which he competed before going on to greater success in other endeavours, feature one or more balls?

No, other than the two under the player's pants/shorts.

18 questions down and you're still miles away. Focussing on the sport will not likely get you there.

1, 7. Real human male, born between Jan 1, 1901 and Sep 1 / 39.
6, 9. Born in the Americas, north of 30 degrees North.
12. White US citizen.

8, 11, 13, 15, 18. A professional boxer or racer (golfer and pool player eliminated as sport did not include balls); never competed at Olympic Games. Much more famous for other exploits.
16. Successful in business.
10, 17. Not known for government, music, acting, or technological advances.

No (as far as I know).

One more question.

1, 7. Real human male, born between Jan 1, 1901 and Sep 1 / 39.
6, 9. Born in the Americas, north of 30 degrees North.
12. White US citizen.
2, 3, 4. Died after Sep 1 / 39.
5, 14. "E" in their full first name; but not Robert, James, Charles, George, Joseph, Edward, Walter, Henry, or Albert.
8, 11, 13, 15, 18. A professional boxer or racer (golfer and pool player eliminated as sport did not include balls); never competed at Olympic Games. Much more famous for other exploits.
16. Successful in business.
10, 17. Not known for government, music, acting, or technological advances.
19. Didn't work in film industry.

This is pretty challenging. The best piece of information we have about him is that he is a failed boxer or racer who became a businessman, and Google searches for something like "failed boxer turned businessman" don't really turn up any useful possibilities.

We also have to ask if our Canadian friend has left us any clues along the way:

Emphasis mine. Is this a hint that we are looking for a hurdler? That would likely qualify as a "racer". But I can't find any hurdlers-turned-businessmen, and in any case, we were advised that determining the sport isn't likely to help us. (If this wasn't a clue, then I think boxer is most likely - but again, we are warned against this line of thought.)
