Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

That’s already 8 option brackets each with between 2 and infinite options. If we add options every time we want to make a change then this list will grow and eventually we will be a caricature of an overly complex system that could accomplish the same end result better with a simpler system. Fair e...

I also do not think this will cause an uptick in people not readying.
That is absolutely false. We have all experienced players readying because they have been explicitly asked/reminded. Now that won't happen, because we won't know who it is.

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

As people have noted upthread, NMRs are a fact of life in online games. I would never email a moderator about that, and just accept it as something that means I may have to change my orders at the last minute. Indeed, it can sometimes add a touch a drama as the clock counts down, wondering if someo...

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

I don't know why everyone's complaining about retreats. Just look at the board and you can see easily enough who has retreats. But maybe that could be a doable fix. Idk, I'm not a Dev. I almost always play larger map variants, as I find the standard game pretty boring. If you can "just look at the ...

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

I mean, I don't blame you for taking advantage of a CD when you see it coming. I just think losing the ability for any power to see it coming increases the quality of the game as a whole. I can't agree with this. Seeing it coming makes it more likely that the power will be hammered. One of the most...

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

People email us to emergency pause normal games all the time. I've never done it and never seen it done. Surely you don't want to be handling more email? I'm not sure how this change alters your ability to avoid people in future anonymous public games, remind via press that someone hasn't entered/r...

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

I'm not sure how turns dragging longer is an issue. It's not my experience that readying up is the standard anywhere outside of high quality gunboat, in which case it's also not frowned upon when people can't. Removing the means to target people for using the whole phase length doesn't seem problem...

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

That is why for pending NMR's you see "At least 1 player still needs to enter moves" which allows you to contact the mods to prevent the pending NMR, just like you can do currently. As for turns dragging on longer, if you enter a game with 24 hour phases, expect the game to take 24 hours each and e...

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

One definite disadvantage: You can't even tell who has orders to put in any more. If it's a retreat turn, you used to be able to tell at a glance who was retreating. Now, what? Read through the orders looking for "(dislodged)"? Ugh.

Re: Anonymous Changes and Online Indicators

Not that it matters, but I have to wonder: Were people seriously scraping the site to try to determine who an anonymous player is via their NMR counter? Wouldn't that only matter if they are not entering moves, in which case they're likely to drop out anyhow. Is it really necessary to remove the che...

Re: Cryptocurrency

Anything which can be described with making "500% profit in just 2 months" is not a currency in any practical way.
"Ponzi scheme" is the phrase you are looking for.

Re: Are we ever going to get TLS on this site?

One of the problems with these alarmist "it's possible" scenarios is that they fail to consider the real likelihood of anyone spending the massive resources necessary. When you visit your local shop, there could be a dozen armed men there waiting to abduct a random person and hold them for ransom, w...

Re: Civil Disorder..players in a game should get the option of switching from their country to one that has no player

CD situations should be handled to try to minimise, not maximise, the chaos and disruption to the game. This would cause chaos. Imagine (esp. in a World game) when a major player is removed. A smaller nation might then take over, abandoning their nation. So a smaller nation then moves to that nation...
