Re: Political statement on homepage

Who was /is Pollyanna anyway? Is it a reference to a character in 'Little Women'? (And before anyone takes offence that is the title of a classic book, essentially a coming of age novel, and not an intention to demean women in anyway whatsoever, although the book itself was 'of its time' and hardly ...

Re: Political statement on homepage

I deplore the fact that webdip has a blatently political statement emblazoned across its header.

I find it particularly strange that only state-sactioned violence and racism are condemned. So presumably individuals can carry on with their arbitrary violence and racism with impunity!

Re: Petition: Save the eternal stalemate!

The game should have been cancelled a very long time ago.

Diplomacy, and this site as a resource, is not intended to be a 7-player co-op game.

If that's what you want, go and play 'Zombie Apocalypse' or something!

Re: Misnamed territory

Bulgaria got a bit of Aegian coast in about 1912, but this is an example of pragmatic redrawing for the map and gameplay on land; coast or not on land Bulgaria does effectively block Consntinople from direct access to Greece.

You can call it the Thracian coast if you like.

Re: Retreat Question

Thanks for the advice on this. Yes, I was asking about disbandment DURING THE ORDERS PHASE of the SPRING TURN. But it would be equally valid if applied to non-displaced units after the Spring moves. It must have been a House Rule in my first ever face-to-face game. Should have insisted on reading th...

Re: Misnamed territory

How about 'England' which should be Great Britain, or 'Turkey' which should be Ottoman Empire.

And we all know that 'Wales' doesn't really include Cornwall.

Thanks to all respondents.

It's good to know I've not being entirely wrong about this topic since day 1!

Does displacement of a unit supporting against oneself cut that support?

As per title but I'll clarify:- Usually a unit cannot cut support against itself, e.g. Munich attacks (with no support) an enemy army in Berlin, but Berlin supports an enemy army Kiel into Munich. Kiel takes Munich! Berlin is displaced. But if Silesia supports Munich to (unsupported) Berlin, and the...

Re: Retreat Question

I could well be mistaken but I always thought that the original rules permitted voluntary disbandment in the Spring turn regardless of whether or not a unit was caused to retreat. If the owner retained sufficient supply centres the unit could be replaced by either a fleet or army in the Autumn build...

Re: AAR/EOG - Newbie Grind

Hi, France (2nd) here. Yes, good game. I enjoyed the uphill struggle throughout. First, a clarification to England's post above. I took over AFTER the Sp01 moves had been made, so it seems the original France player did submit orders. I joined the site only a month ago and was having difficulty gett...

Re: Alternative Counter Set / Sprites

Yes, diplomat61

On our diplomacy wallmap we used squares and triangles. Very clear. And of course the realworld board does not change colour when a foreign unit enters it!

Re: The old A to B, B to C, and C to A conundrum

Thanks again, Cleasar Certainly looks interesting. Would it be possible to build variants with that resource? One variant we used to play when we couldn't get the required 7, or when someone (or two or three) reneged at the last minute was to distribute the countries by lottery, leaving the surplus ...

Can last turn's moves be turned off on the map?

As per title.

I just find the map a bit cluttered with the orders displayed graphically especially on my phone.

Alternative Counter Set / Sprites

Would it be possible to have alternative sprites particularly for armies? I find it a bit odd to have a modern battle tank symbol when an infantry soldier would seem more appropriate. Or perhaps we could have a cannon or the original shell? In a similar vein, would it be possible to have coloured pi...

Re: The old A to B, B to C, and C to A conundrum

Indeed. Support is unconditional unless the supporting unit is attacked.

That, though, is the beauty of diplomacy; it mimics both the military and diplomatic principles (and everything else that occurs) not only by communication but also by onboard .movement.
