This seems quite jolly? Maybe festive is better? Looking forward to the drawing

Re: Russia in Modern Diplomacy II
I agree that Russia is incredibly weak in Modern, but I think the same issue goes for France in the gunboat version as well. Almost all of their neighbors are difficult to attack without one front deciding you're not worth it, and it feels like that's hard to achieve in gunboat.

Re: Civil Disorder Take-overs
The size of the GR stake would likely become a point in negotiation, and this is not the case with the current system where each stake is equal. So, if points and GR become more similar (GR becomes more visible, used to bet, etc), then the main difference is that the bet size would become different...

Re: Civil Disorder Take-overs
Maybe someone who likes the dip point system can explain something to me: Am I supposed to try harder in a game where the pot is 500 instead of 20? Seems like I should just always play to win and then, if I do score well, how well I score should be relative to the skill level of the players involve...

Re: Civil Disorder Take-overs
I also think that people do pay more attention to points than the forum believes. Its a very simple, intuitive system, and it's very prominent. When I first started playing on this site (before GR was integrated), I paid a lot of attention to points. There were some games I wouldn't (or couldn't) jo...

Re: Civil Disorder Take-overs
My main point is that it just seems less intuitive than the points system, but maybe that is just because I don't fully understand GR. It also just seems that the changes that'd be made to GR would make it at least somewhat more analogous to the point system itself. If it just becomes the new curren...

Re: Civil Disorder Take-overs
Tbh- I personally enjoy the points system. I think using GR solely might get hairy with Sum of Squares scoring as well. With points its more simple to see how much people will gain from the game, how much a loss would mean to them, etc.

Re: Civil Service Medals
I think this is a bad idea.
If I have guessed the game that the original post is in response to, the medal would go to a player helping an alliance committed to a large, 4-way draw take their territory. Diplomacy should be about encouraging people to win, not helping them create a large draw.

Global Stakes
https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=763440 I've started a new global game: 48 Hour Phases 20 point entry Sum of Squares scoring Only 1 excused missed turn I've wanted to play another global match for a bit, but the bets and phases are often too low for the level of diplomacy that happens in c...

Re: Germany, Russia, and Sweden
I usually prefer to let Russia into Sweden, especially if they're game to limit Northern fleet builds. I don't think there's anything stronger for Germany's diplomatic positioning than a Russia everyone is afraid of.

I also want to put forward Sengoku as an idea. I think it'd play much differently than anything currently on this site.

It would be cool to just include it as a new press type when creating a game.Esquire Bertissimmo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 11, 2023 3:37 pmThe option of "grey" press sounds super fun, though maybe that's harder to implement than new maps.

Re: New variant thoughts
I'd be interested in Fog of War, but if we got a new map it would be nice to have a non-euro option. I've liked Canton Diplomacy when I've played it, but I'm not sure whether its the best balanced.

Re: webDip hosted full-press AI live
How does the bot react to stabs in press? Is it practical or does it have the more realistic (ie common), emotional response?

Making the game private and/or unranked may help in that respect, but it seems that most limitations on forum posting are for public press or gunboat games any way.
