Re: War, what is it good for?
It just feels that, in the relatively small group of people that can be loosely defined as "foreign politicians prominent enough for me to be aware of" the mortality rate due to unnatural causes is at an all time high

Re: War, what is it good for?
I was thinking the leader of the Russian opposition dying in prison, the president of Slovakia fighting for his life after been repeatedly shot, the President of Iran and other senior ministers dying in a helicopter crash, the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Japan....

Or perhaps he's mourning the missed opportunity the USA had to become the head of a global empire when it was the only nuclear power and could have conquered every nation on Earth

If you were being generous you could use it as a metaphor for the West's attempt to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons...Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 9:46 amWhy is this discussion in the politics thread?
Is it because US Republicans are seen as being more pro-elephant than the donkey-loving Democrats?

What's the point of chatting about these things online if you're going to tell anyone who disagrees with you to shove off? I'm sure there's a subreddit you could go instead where you wouldn't accidentally run into someone with a different view on the conflict. You're probably right. I just get angr...

You'd have thought it might have occurred to the Palestinian government to give up the hostages by now.

Re: The Politics of Protest
The traditional view of the right is that everyone should have the right to protest about any issue so long as it doesn't inconvenience anyone else. The ideal protester stands on his soapbox in Speaker's Corner where he either makes for an amusing tourist attraction or is ignored completely. This is...

Re: Eurovision One Week Countdown!
Ain't no way y'all are supporting Eurovision while it's distracting from an ongoing genocide I went to the pub last night which was a lovely distraction from genocide. Watched an episode of taskmaster, which again was a great distraction. I might even get around to putting on Swift's new album so I...

Re: Lord of the Rings vs Harry Potter
It would make for a far shorter story if the two worlds were combined
Gandalf "Keep it secret, keep it safe"
Meanwhile, in Mordor
Sauron "Accio ring"
Gandalf "Fuck"

Re: Brainbomb vs MajorMitchell
Hmmmm.... tricky... In a contest of combat, obviously it's the Major as he's hard as nails behind his well maintained soft and cuddly persona. However, if it was a game of wits... Well, the Major would clearly walk it for obvious reasons On the other hand, if it was a sporting contest... You'd have ...

Re: Death Star vs 4 Borg Cubes
A battle between them would resemble a fight between a Spanish Galleon and a a modern oil tanker whose only weapon is the ability to ram. After the first amusing hour the following weeks would get pretty damned tedious. Oil tankers can't take much punishment, so the galleon would likely win in spit...

Re: Death Star vs 4 Borg Cubes
The first death star had no ship targeting ability, and took an age to power up its planet killing weapon anyway. The Borg cube is significantly smaller and has weapons designed for fighting starships rather than a space station the size of a moon. A battle between them would resemble a fight betwee...

The Murdoch Myth
Left wing political activists and Rupert Murdoch don't have a great deal in common, but one thing that unites many of them is an unshakable belief in the power and influence of Rupert Murdoch. This is, of course, utter bollocks. The Sun, regardless of what it likes to say in its headlines, has never...
