Re: How would you improve the website?

Hmm, I wonder could you fudge the analysis by treating all hold as an nmr, and losing some possibly good data but getting a clean set (if it is still large enough). Or possibly only apply to countries which enter more than 3 holds. (so assume that if a user is down to 2 or 1 unit, them entering all ...

Re: How would you improve the website?

@ATC did you try removing games with NMRs from the analysis?

Re: Map-making.

I've made a few variants (using the standard map...) a lot of the work is image editing a picture to look good, and then editing the position of units in a text file. Not too hard (though I've got an unfinished map somewhere which needs lots of work...) much easier than C++, unless you're trying to ...

Cool ATC, it has been a while.

Fog of war and touch would be great additions, IMHO.

Re: Diplomacy 2.0

Just because I was reminded elsewhere. Is it possible to alter the variant system so every map variant has some press options. So ancient med with full press/public press/gunboat would be one variant, but with three options. With a future possibility of adding new press options (like grey and black ...

Re: Is it still Diplomacy if there is no press?

Playing with strict limits like 1908, a popular variant in various tournaments. I like timers aswell, but with new players they usually deserve a chance to talk things through... (though added time pressure of face-to-face with strict time limits - including if you haven't written your orders down y...

Re: Is it still Diplomacy if there is no press?

1 Vs 1s are very clearly not diplomacy. Gunboat is a variant of diplomacy, as are map variants, touch (where you can only communicate with players you have units touching) and fog of war (where the map only shows you the area around you units and SC). Gunboat is popular, and some community members v...

Flash, maybe that was the case before the latest version of js... At least I think it has gotten better, with actual classes, and I portable modules.

Re: Diplomacy 2.0

This sounds awesome, can I ask about live game support, so like sockets/push notifications, maybe even client to client communication (which I assume the technology for has come a long way... As has support for sockets).

Cause road map and features weren't listed...

Re: New Rule Regarding Game Press

still have no idea what doxxing is, but im going to do it to GHUG for sure Doxxing comes from various horrible parts of the Internet (let's say place like 4chan), where they start out with a campaign against a particular actor, because the blame said individual for ruining their favourite film fran...

Re: Armistice

@Octavious, I took a cycle for peace to the grave of the first British casualty of the war (John Parr, Private, 4th Battalion, (Duke of Cambridge's) Middlesex Regiment) back in 2014. We arrived at his grave 100 years to the day after his death, if records are accurate. And I have to say, a lot of ot...

Re: Fighting winter depression

1. take some vitamin D3, can't hurt at least. Some studies indicate it helps with depression, but the evidence is weak; still winter's lack of sunlight can lead to vitamin D deficiency, and supplementing has done me wonders for several years now. 2. Get a sun lamp, again, lack of sun in the winter s...

Re: Iran Protests

@Jeff, why should the US provide material support? Iran is in the position it is today because of the last Iranian revolution - which was entirely opposed to the US material support the Shah was receiving. The US has since 1979 painted Iran as some kind of boogie man because their new regime refused...

Re: The 'Problem' and 'Politics' with the Political Forum

I've always struggled to believe that anyone who genuinely finds a political debate with heated language abhorrent could possibly be any good at diplomacy. See if it is good for my engagement, and i do the normal human thing and project - i can assume it is good for everyone's engagement. (or that ...

Re: The 'Problem' and 'Politics' with the Political Forum

The vitriol constantly present on the front page here due to the political forum threads was the main reason I chose to play on vDip instead of webDip when I started out. I'd never have looked at webDip again if it hadn't been for Jmo asking me to mod here, and then Eden's Mafia letting me get to k...
