Re: Gunboat

I’m almost tempted….just to play with everyone on the list. But. Uh. I think it might be best to spectate this match instead ^.^;;

I’ll be looking forward to watching ya’ll take each other to task!

In a standard game, you don't. Everyone gets one randomly.

Re: The Carebear Conundrum

I'm also a fan of DSS because it incentivizes smaller nations to keep fighting. People are more likely to do what they're incentivized to do. SoS treats a player with 1 center as though they're barely worth noticing, which of course is often hardly not the case. DSS incentivizes players to remain en...

Re: Betrayal Blues

I tend to do better being the stabbed vs doing the stabbing. Especially if I’ve had the ally for a while. But if I see a path to a solo I’ll try to take it. (I’m not very good at getting to that solo, but I’ll still try!) Typically I get myself over the hump of “no betraying people bad!” is by remin...

Re: Anyone else think England’s more dangerous to Germany than France?

If I had to fight one and for some reason the other wasn't going to get involved, I would rather face England. I've not found England to be as much as an issue as France when they're by themselves. It's the threat of France holding my forces in check that makes England's forces extra threatening to ...

Re: seeking players for gunboat with EOG discussion so we can improve

True, but you’d think that someone who’s gone out of their way to join a game with an EOG expectation would stick around. You had to go out of your way to find the game via the forum and get the password.

People make me sad :(

Awesomesauce! I'm looking forward to reading up on this!

Reading my opponents is probably one of my weakest skills, so I look forward to brushing up on said skills

Re: seeking players for gunboat with EOG discussion so we can improve

This sounds awesome! Very excited to try slipping in and seeing what comes of this. My own gunboat play is pretty poor, so hopefully this can prove a great chance to learn and maybe help others learn too ^.^

Re: What Do Dip Players Do in Real Life?

... Now, I play ... EVE Online. Which alliance are you in? I played EVE back in the old BoB/Goon days. Haven't played in years though. Oh man. Now that's a game I love to watch the going ons and read about, but never actually play. Far too intimidating. Though the BoB/Goon days are my favorite stor...

Re: How Old are Diplomacy Players

Late 20s, so millennial. I came across the game from a D&D video....no really. A gentleman by the name Matt Colville used it as a reference and suggested those looking to DM in a "politically sophisticated game" play Diplomacy to introduce how someone who only sees the world in terms of power might ...

Re: What Do Dip Players Do in Real Life?

My day job is a librarian and by night I'm a voice actor, though this means I'm mostly narrating audiobooks. Surrounded by books at work I still do more with books in my free time as I love reading and listening to audiobooks. I'm also a writer...and then I also love playing some good 'ol D&D. Basic...

Re: Favourite country and why?

Germany and Austria. I like having my back to the wall, and being both force me to be properly engaged with the other players. I don't dislike playing anyone, but I always feel the most engaged with these 2 powers. Plus - if you can get them going they're in a better position to take a shot at a sol...

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

I think that's such a wrong statement. The draw is what you must aspire to when it's clear you can't win after the game has been going on for a while. Starting a game with the assumption "I can't possibly win, I'll just try to draw" is not only wrong but also sad. It also means you’re not likely to...

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

The second one is, and I quote: "Players must enter a game aiming to get the best possible result from the game". And saying that for a person the best possible result could be a draw is just semantics. The best possible result is winning a game. Drawing is second best. Ιf a player is not a strong ...

Re: How Do We Feel About Not Even Trying to Win?

I will admit to turning down a solo once. I didn’t do it because I swore to an ally that I wouldn’t turn on them or something like that. Rather I was in a game with some new players, and one of them annoyed one of the more experienced players with their moves to the point where the experienced playe...

Re: Non-aggression pact

Well with the stipulation that "context is king" ... But if I had someone make a non-aggression pact with me and then support hold vs me I would be pretty ticked off. While you are not directly attacking me you are helping an enemy of mine, which is what I would consider a hostile act and I'd consid...

Re: A rant about Reliability Rating

I too have a thing called “a life.” In it I work a job, I’m also self employed, I take time with family, I clean the house, I (try to) exercise regularly, I play 4 games of Dungeons and Dragons, I hangout with friends (digitally now), I...ya know live. I also take the time to make sure I don’t miss ...
