Another fortnight rolls around, so its time for episode 54 of the Diplomacy Games podcast! As the temperature picks up into the 90's (for our American friends) we go back to the 70's. Kaner talks about a 1979 guide to Diplomacy he got his hands on and Amby channels his Stevie Wonder talking abut his Dip superstitions... with a few choice quotes from the webDip post. Plus much more. Listen at DiplomacyGames.com or download and subscribe at iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Play etc.

@emc ha ha love it! I’d make you my new BFF if you bought in & did that!
I will readily admit I haven't actually put it to practice more than a couple of times, but considering I haven't subbed into any games that match the criteria much more, let's put it down to that :)

but some of the less weird highlights I dug up from game with best examples;
Dear France, lovely blue France!
Your countenance is exquisite, just like a dance.
Radiant, regal, of royal awe-
Perhaps a four-way draw? :)
Oh Russia, the Tzar'd
You're glorious beyond regard
Lucious purple, I bellow,
but more radiant with a spot of yellow :)
There once were seven different countries,
Of Germany and Austria they became munchies.
"Please!", said Turkey,
You want me here, lurkey!
For eating me causes constipation-y
Russian's don't like turkey. We eat bear.
Russia totally lied, he absolutely enjoyed consuming my singular SC lol

if you sub into a one-or-two SC count country, you must send everyone personalized poetry and global limericks on the benefits of draws and lots of terribly subtle innuendo, which theoretically should result in survival

Unfortunately, as of so far, it's mostly resulted in being eaten anyways, but with forewarning and apologies lol

In Gunboats I almost always open the same way, because I've determined they're the 'best' moves. Don't think that should count as a lucky charm though..

@YIgg - the former, not the latter. I don't want to go into detail here as I'll use all my material that I plan for the podcast ;-)

One should avoid superstitions at all cost. They're frightfully unlucky.

Superstition ain't the way!

Stevie Wonder aside, are you talking about a lucky charm as in a certain move set? A style of press, or a thing you do in press every time? You're not talking about, like, dangling a rabbit's foot off the corner of your monitor or anything like that, right? This could be really interesting, but I think I need a little more elaboration on what you mean by lucky charm.

Do any other players have a lucky charm they follow? How does it work? Looking at having a discussion about this in an upcoming podcast episode.

Reply to the thread or PM me, particularly if you're happy for your superstition to be discussed but you not mentioned by name.

I've got myself into doing a certain thing in my games here and recently changed what I did, for it to go very wrong...
