Congratulations (again), Spartculous.
Good pick! Thanks for running the round.

Are you hacking my computer???
I think I have started to pick up on a bit of how to read the various QMs. Bentham was of a similar flavor to Baron Denning. (Of course, trying to look for a Canadian connection led me astray at first.)

Hominidae definitely has a QM style (out-of-the-box picks like Clippy and Ötzi). han-shahanshah likes to go for people from Asia. There are a few more things I have picked up on.

Anyways, since you have very kindly refunded my guess, I will use it on Jeremy Bentham.
Are you hacking my computer??? JEREMY BENTHAM is correct! This political philosopher developed the idea of utilitarianism, that the policy which should be followed is the one that gives the greatest good to the greatest number. I try to subscribe to this idea every day. Once I drove a co-worker way out of my way to take her home, because although it was a 30 minute detour to me, it would have been a 60 minute bus ride for her. Utilitarianism got me a date with that girl!

Congratulations (again), Spartculous.

It was a good guess, anyway! PS: I've been to the "other" New Brunswick, in New Jersey. Underwhelming, compared to ours.
I can certainly believe yours is prettier... the closest I've gotten to your New Brunswick is Halifax, and that was very pretty. Anyways, since you have very kindly refunded my guess, I will use it on Jeremy Bentham.

I'm YOLOing this one: Robert Monckton.
No, but you have me intrigued. Did I previously disclose that I live in Moncton, New Brunswick, named after this British knave who was responsible for the Deportation of the Acadians? Not charging as a free guess as it was clearly intentional on the "military" answer being yes.
I was thinking that there was a good chance this was someone who was a general in something like the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, or the War of 1812. When I was looking up possibilities, I realized that a lot of them had Canadian connections. You seem to be the sort of person who might have chosen the namesake of your hometown, so when I learned that Moncton (which you mentioned in the eclipse thread from earlier this week) was named for a British general, I went for it.

(Anyways, something you and I have in common: I used to live in a different New Brunswick.)

Did he live in, serve militarily in, or otherwise visit North America?
Not that I've been able to find out.
Did he ever serve in the military?
No.

Well, I might as well use my free guess: William Howe
No. Not charging, for same reason as above.

1,5,9,12,13,14. Real human male, born 1700-1759.
2,4,10. Born in England.
7. Lived 40 years or longer.
16. Died in the British Isles.
6. Native speaker of English.
8,11. Primarily famous for politics, government, or military; did not have a royal/noble title.
3. Not an artist, except in perhaps the broadest possible sense.
15. Never an MP of the English or British Parliament.
17,19. Never in any branch of the military.
18. Never travelled to North America, as far as I can tell.

One question left.

No.

If yes, free guess Captain Cook

If no, was he in the Royal Navy?

Not missed. This was Q11. The answer to Q8 was updated to remove royalty/nobility.
I realized that after posting, but it still doesn't give enough information, since it doesn't specify that this person CAN'T have a noble title.

Also the summary now gives an overly broad range for birth years.

Here's a more accurate summary:

1,5,9,12,13,14. Real human male, born 1700-1759.
7. Lived 40 years or longer.
2,4,10. Born in England.
6. Native speaker of English.
8,11. Primarily famous for politics, government, or military, but did not have a royal or noble title.
3. Not an artist, except in perhaps the broadest possible sense.
15. Never an MP of the English or British Parliament.

Born before 1700?
No.
If no, born before 1760?
Yes.
Member of parliament of England/Great Britain/the United Kingdom?
No.
Also, just as a heads up, you left the answer to this question out of the summary (although you did count it as a number).

Born before 1700?
If no, born before 1760?

No.
This eliminates a lot of people, like for example Horatio Nelson.
