I narrowed it down to Joan Didion and Julia Child only to find it was all over! :eyeroll:

I am genuinely impressed that you had Julia Child on your radar at this point of the game (even before the film clues)
She came on the radar as I scanned the list of winners of the National Book Prize. There were so few that fit the demographic criteria, and were likely famous enough to have been in an movie.

I did NOT watch it, I'm afraid. I had it down to her or Joan Didion based on other clues, but couldn't find a movie Joan Didion was in. I IMDB'd Julia Child to find that movie "We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story" and the Wikipedia page told the story about the director voicing her until she was hired.

This was a real detective effort, and a lot of fun. Thank you Spartaculous. I'll start a new one ASAP.

Free guess: Ursula K Le Guin
What movie is she in?
There was a documentary listed on IMDB. She had so many awards and the birth/death dates fit, it was a long shot guess, the first thing that popped into my head. Congrats to Gooner for getting it right!

It all sounds like Julia Child to me. So that's my free guess.
Apparently cdngooner was one of about 7 people who watched the 1993 animated film "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story". Great job!

Died before 01.01.2004 ?
No, died on or after January 1, 2004.

Here is a hint: we know she had one movie acting credit to her name. When that movie was being written, the director impersonated her for one of roles; she ended up being recruited to fill in the role herself.

Just a comment: I suspect this person also has some other arts thing going on. Maybe visual art. (I don't think anyone should ask this though, because it won't really narrow it down much.)
