Chaos NO EXCUSES
1 day /phase
Pot: 170 D - Spring, 1909, Finished
Classic - Chaos, Sum-of-Squares Scoring
0 excused missed turn
Game drawn
21 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Budapest]:Holland missed a removal
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Spain]:Belated, but good game all.

No hard feelings, Portugal.
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Portugal]:Thanks, likewise
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Sweden]:Portugal has such an advantage in this variant it’s not even funny
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Ankara]:Codswallop
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Portugal]:Codswallop indeed. Portugal starts out boxed in by Spain. The only other center who can help, Marseilles, is incentivized to do nothing (as he did this game) because a divided Iberia is a much safer western border than a united Iberia and because helping Portugal has no material gain. Granted, I managed to snatch Spain through a combination of luck and careful press, but I couldn't just brute-force my way through with an ally's help.
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Trieste]:The Viennese scum took my homeland and killed my brother, Greece! He will be avenged!
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Serbia]:How dare you say that about my friend?
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Marseilles]:I agree that Portugal has a disadvantage to start with. This was my second chaos game, but in the first, Portugal was swallowed up in 1901 (granted, Spain was very good, and rose to 5 centers by 1903, only to come crashing down like a meteor). In this game, Portugal only managed to grow through careful manipulation of Spain, which is wholly to his credit.
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Marseilles]:Also, forgot to say this: Asta la vista, from everybody's favorite Serbian.
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Trieste]:Serbia is nothing but a Viennese lapdog!
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Serbia]:You are just a province of Turkey
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Sweden]:In all chaos games I’ve seen Portugal always gets to 4 centers

He can just attack Spain and wait for Spain to get bored or get threaten by France to make a play as no one should really threaten him from MAO until 1903
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Portugal]:This applies to any centers next to each other, except that Portugal won't get outside help. Furthermore, Spain will be expecting an attack, seeing as he's basically the only way Portugal can expand, and from Spain's perspective he can only lose by moving if Portugal attacks. It's a situation where Spain is incentivized to keep Portugal boxed in and Portugal can't just use gunboat diplomacy to force his way through.
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Bulgaria]:Portugal’s still better, because if Portugal and Spain spend the whole time attacking into each other, Spain is much more vulnerable to some interloper tipping the balance against them.
22 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1903: [Portugal]:Sure, it's not great playing Spain, either. I'm just contesting the claim that Chaos is super tipped towards Portugal.
23 Aug 19 UTC Spring, 1904: [Ankara]:You watch Venice NMR
23 Aug 19 UTC Spring, 1904: [Portugal]:I only just noticed how many people are voting draw.
24 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1904: [Sevastopol]:Yeah it's kinda funny :3
26 Aug 19 UTC Spring, 1905: GameMaster: Game was extended due to at least 1 member failing to enter orders and having an excused missed turn available. This has un-readied all orders.
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Ankara]:I would just like to humbly apologise to Venice. I knew that Sev and Mos were coming for me (for the crime of not giving Sev a free SC “just because”) and had to cover my door to nullify their attack.
I say this publicly because everyone can bear witness to my pledge to deliver it back to Ven at the earliest opportunity.

Sev and Mos - get your affairs in order - the Turkish bloodbath is coming for you!
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Sevastopol]:If we're going to air our dirty laundry in public...I'll just quote from the messages I sent you. "[J]ust because" <3
-----------------------
Me -> Ankara
Autumn, 1904: [You]:Would you be down with me taking BUL this fall, while you take GRE so you don't disband, so I can then push back north against Moscow with two units?
Sat 24 Aug Autumn, 1904: [Ankara]:Yes fine
-----------------------
Spring, 1905: [You]:
back to the game, I'm gonna assume you don't really care about my survival any more? :'(
Mon 12 PM Spring, 1905: [Ankara]:Kinda, but that was about me giving someone else a leg up, thinking about value, and having second thoughts.
I’m happy for you to stay in as long as I don’t have to cop the bill
-----------------------
(part of a larger message, N.B. Ankara didn't message me after the above message from Spring 05 until the turn had processed...even though they had over a day to respond to me, because of an NMR)

Me -> Ankara:
Spring, 1905: [You]:
"[w]hat have you done for me? Not trying to be rude, just honest. I helped raise you into the dominating force that you are now. Then when I needed help, I asked for BUL and you bounced me. I asked if you no longer cared about my survival and you said 'Kinda'. I asked you for help fighting Moscow and you...didn't respond.

And that's fine. It was at no point the best strategic move to help me grow to 2 centers. That's just the truth. But this game isn't just tactics. It's diplomacy. So hey, if you've got a plan that makes more sense than me taking ANK from you, my inbox is open."

Big surprise, Ankara then promised to support me back into RUM and welllll if we look at the board we see...oh.
----------------

The point of this is...Ankara, you had so, so, so many chances to prove yourself as a trustworthy teammate. But the burnt corpses of Constantinople, Smyrna, Bulgaria, Serbia, Rumania, Trieste (who was in SER last year), Greece, Naples, all point to one thing.

You leave your friends to die, often with your knife in their back.

Bring on the bloodbath. (oooo im Sevastapol im so scary with my one unit oooo)

P.S. "[e]arliest opportunity" lmao Venice get comfortable in ROM

P.P.S. you literally agreed to giving me BUL...which was a bad idea...but you could have just told me that you changed your mind...it's not that hard...
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Ankara]:[Sevastopol]:I'm waiting for a final confirmation from Vienna that they're down with our plan. Regardless, I don't really have a choice except to try and retake RUM with your help.
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Ankara]:Let's not point fingers Sevvie baby - I liked you, but not enough to pay for your mistakes and mis-steps and misreads fella-me-lad. Pot much?
You really can't take the moral high ground when you've lied through your teeth a number of times to me.
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Ankara]:Anyway - all beside the point - Ven - I'll take this offline with you to ensure a smooth transition when the time is right.
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Ankara]:Also - Sev - why did you omit the time I actually OFFERED Ankara to you so you could grow and be more useful? An offer you might recall you rejected?
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Tunis]:Get a room you two
29 Aug 19 UTC Autumn, 1905: [Sevastopol]:I'm trying but last time Ankara just ghosted me :'(
30 Aug 19 UTC Spring, 1906: [Sweden]:The Moscow-St. Peterburg-Berlin alliance will win unless Vienna and Ankara can mount a suitable offense in the south and that Liverpool can take over Britain and begin a Naval War.

Portugal also will need to win France and come to the Low Countries Aid while Kiel and I buy time holding off Berlin.
31 Aug 19 UTC Spring, 1906: [Ankara]:Well I think Vienna thinks he will somehow survive without an ally...
01 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1906: [Paris]:Au Revoir mes amis. All of the French speakers are now dead
01 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1906: [Portugal]:You'll forever be alive in my heart, Paris
01 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1906: [Paris]:Merci
02 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1907: [Ankara]:The dogpile is real.

I do have to say though, that if Vienna and Berlin can’t see the 3 way coming down the tracks by now, you deserve to go down with me!

Cheers it’s been fun!
04 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1907: [Liverpool]:Bye friends — Britain could not unite fast enough to challenge the other European powers. I’ll leave with a similar warning as those before me, watch out for the three powers from the northeast. Everyone needs to unite to stop them.
04 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1907: [Sweden]:Seriously Berlin?

That’s not cool
04 Sep 19 UTC Autumn, 1907: [Berlin]:What's the problem?
07 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1908: [Berlin]:I should have gone for BEL
07 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1908: [Portugal]:Mhm.
07 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1908: [Portugal]:Lotta draw votes.
07 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1908: [Sevastopol]:Not from me, drawing is for weenies.
07 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1908: [Portugal]:Lol
07 Sep 19 UTC Spring, 1908: [Munich]:They're all scared of my solo.
10 Sep 19 UTC [Portugal]:....
Wow. What turned you, St. Petes?
11 Sep 19 UTC [Portugal]:I guess you were worried about Moscow-Vienna-Me ganging up on you and Berlin? Or was it the fleet build in Spring? Damn, now I'm kinda wishing I had stuck to my guns and taken back the draw vote.

At any rate, GG all. Venice, Kiel, Ankara, good jobs sneaking into the draw.
11 Sep 19 UTC [St-Petersburg]:Nah, I wasn't so worried, but I got roped into the Nexus tournament and that's taking a lot of time. So since I could end this game, I did (can only play so many press games at once).

Good game all, was fun. Happy dipping!
11 Sep 19 UTC [Portugal]:Ok, ditto
11 Sep 19 UTC [Ankara]:Hahaha well played
11 Sep 19 UTC [Sevastopol]:@StPete, that's reasonable, ggs all! Glad to see you at least waited to draw until Ankara lost 1 point ;)
11 Sep 19 UTC [Moscow]:Wow, I was not expecting stp to draw, but I respect the decision, I was going to fight Vienna next after ankara
