10 Jan 18 UTC Well played everyone. I am not at all surprised to see that New York is a top ten player. Tricky little bugger, caused me all sorts of issues. (Not least it’s my first time with this variant and I didn’t realise you could pass through NY State with a fleet. Almost screwed me. Many thanks to Brit Columbia too. We had a nice little dance there for a while, but we figured out it wasn’t in our interests to keep staring each other down.

I was a little tempted at the end to push for a 3-way eliminating Mexico - mostly because I thought there were a couple of moves that were aggressive northward when a 3 way eliminating Peru seemed the better option. But I saw everyone else’s draw votes, grabbed a couple of SCs for the extra points and decided it would be harsh to push for elimination after so much had been invested in the game (I’ve been there!)

Thanks everyone.
10 Jan 18 UTC Thanks for the good game, everyone.

I was a bit surprised by the cautious play of bc, I have to say, and the stab by Peru was spicy too.
10 Jan 18 UTC I was also surprised by BC not pushing harder, in 2008 I thought he had a solo in the bag.

I have to accede the stab on Mexico was a rather poor one. But I didn't have anything else to do--I was sequestered both in the east and in the west. The natural thing would have been a friendly transfer of Florida, so that I could make landfall with some armies. But that's a difficult thing to negotiate in gunboat. You don't want to leave all of you units idling waiting for a draw, that's kinda asking to be eliminated...
10 Jan 18 UTC Anyway. Thanks everyone, well played!
10 Jan 18 UTC Good game to all. I played rather cautiously for a time but that's really my style. Thanks, Quebec, for seeing that we didn't need a conflict although I always felt you had superior positioning inland whenever you wanted to make a move. It was an interesting give and take with Mexico and I was only aided by the Peru stab.
