Top 12 Reasons to Vote Democrat
1. I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my German Shepherd.
flc64 (1963 D)
16 Aug 12 UTC

2. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

3. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

4. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

5. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

7. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted (murdered) so long as we keep all death row inmates (murderers) alive.

8. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the social security from those who paid into it.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit. (Punish Success, Reward Failure...yeah, that'll help productivity....not)

10. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe immoral kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

11. I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay billions for their oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish.

12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my behind, it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

Good to know ignorance is alive and well. But hey, I'm sure its easier to just want to turn the clock back to those halcyon days of yore... back in the 50s. You know.. when we taxed the top bracket at 90 percent.

Fucking mouthbreathers.
Draugnar (0 DX)

OK, as much of a conservative as I am, I just have to point out the stupidity of 1. anyhow. Allowing consenting adults to marry regardless of sexual orientation does not equate to unions between people and animals or buildings or even pedophilia. Gays and Lesbians are consenting adults entering into a legal and binding agreement together, something your German Shepherd can't do.

I really hate these stupid attacks not even founded in fact no matter which side they come from.
You know what else we did in the 50s? Overthrow the democratically elected government of Iran because of faulty intelligence from Britain.

Good thing we're not overthrowing Middle Eastern governments because of faulty intelligence from Britain anymore.

REALLY good thing that there's never been any kind of blowback from Operation Ajax, and the Shah that we installed is still in power there. He'll keep the Islamic fundamentalists from taking over in Iran WAY better than a democratically elected leader.

Because fuck Iran, that oil is OURS.
Draugnar (0 DX)

More like "Fuck the dummycrats, that Alaskan oil is *ours*!" We wouldn't need Iran if we would just use the resources we already have.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that the largest slice of foreign oil, more than any other country, and more than the entire Persian gulf triumvirate combined, is.... wait for it.... Canadian.

We do take billions in American cash, but I'd like to think we don't hate you.

Also, I do believe that a smaller proportion of consumed oil is produced externally now than was the case in 2008. Obama, despite all expectations, has considerably increased oil and gas exploration domestically.... but yes, talking points, socialism, rah rah rah...

"6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius."

This one in particular shows a complete lack of understanding of the two sciences involved here. A straw man indeed.

"""4. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it."""

I need to rant about this. I hear this all the time on these forums (and from the wider American media). "Thought police" "Hypersensitive feminazis" "Political correctness" are all cited as somehow undermining free speech whenever a comedian or a politician gets in hot water for saying something offensive.

So my question is.... what the hell does this have to do with the first amendment, and what does it have to do with the Democratic Party? I genuinely don't understand the connection. Is there a secret cabal of gays and women working at the behest of the Obomber to shut down free press, one Rush Limbaugh at a time? What Democrats are trying to take away freedom of speech? If individuals call you racist, sexist, stupid, wrong, or if they call you offensive, and criticize the hell out of what you say, and refuse to compensate you financially as a result of being offending, that's not the abridgement of free speech, it's the adult of equivalent to your Mom scolding you for having a filthy mouth. If this is what you reference when you claim that Democrats undermine free speech, your understanding is childish at best, disingenuous at worst.

The actual abridgement of freedom of speech is when the state uses instruments of power to censor speech and uses the threat or actuality of state power to punish the use of speech or intimidate potential speakers. What Democratic legislation or politician supports this?

Or have I violated your freedom of speech by being too intimidating and strident in my criticism....?

'6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that
the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.'

I think it is fair to ignore you because you don't know the difference between climate and weather. But i Feel a great desire to educate you. However i suspect your willful ignorance is driven by your own lack of interest in the issue...

'7. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted (murdered) so long
as we keep all death row inmates (murderers) alive.'

I'm so glad you support the right to life, life is sacred and we should never think that we have the right to take this gift from god away.

Oh wait you're in favour of capital punishment? That's a little contravesial; please look at this map to see the good company you keep: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_of_capital_punishment_by_country (i'm sure if this was done state by state instead of lumping the US all together you'd be able to see some parts of the US are different from others... More 'enligthened' perhaps)

So we should keep bodies alive on feeding tubes forever, right? (i think it is a really cool fact that the so-called 'second brain' about a hundred thousand neurons, which controls the digestive system can function independantly of the central nervous sytem. Make sense from an evolutionary perspective... I guess most mamals work like this....) every sperm is special so we should ban masturbation and condoms, right?? Oh and the rythym method - it allows for an egg to be fertilised but because of the part of the woman's menstural cycle her uterus is inhospitable - or if implantation does occur the uterual wall breaksdown and washes the 'potential' life away. Perhaps All tampons from sexually active women should be checked for murdered babies and we can execute these murders!
orathaic (1009 D(B))

Flc, you do democrats proud by making yourself look like an idiot. I'm glad i don't live in the US.
Hmmmmm... I spy strawman, weak analogy, slippery slope, oh, and a number of statements I can only define as committing the logical fallacy of being stupid as all fuck.

Friendly, it is like this on the 'free speech' bullshit in America. If a person calls a black man a 'ni66er' all hell breaks loose, if a black man calls a mexican a 'spic' its all good.

There is a Hierachry of racism, maybe not just here in my fucked up country, but across the world.

The higher your group is on that ladder, the more racist shit you can talk, without really 'rocking the boat'

lol, sad, but true, and accepted now.

Friendly Sword (636 D)
17 Aug 12 UTC
Stressedlines, what you described still does not amount to censorship and the limiting of your first amendment rights. Moreover, did it ever occur to you that this 'hierarchy of racism' actually resembles the inverse of genuine historical racist social hierarchies?

In any case, your 'freedom' to use racially insensitive language while in a position (I am assuming here) of privilege does not necessitate having the freedom to do it without social sanction. Political sanction possibly, but social sanction no.

Do you think that freedom is being undermined more by a) People getting offended at white people being inadvertently racist and/or offensive or b) People in underprivileged positions afraid of speaking out against racism and abuse, and the normalization of racism and abuse as appropriate aspects of speech in society
I'd rather be under Democrat nutjobs than Republican nutjobs.

"Unread Messages" in gunboat games
Trying not to be specific, but I'm in an ongoing gunboat game where there was a person running multiple accounts. Thus, when they were removed, the game got an automated message (as always happens in such cases).

However, since it's a gunboat game, I can't see the message to read it. And thus can't get rid of the "New Message" icon. Help?

Will your life change by the man who's elected?
Congress hasn't done much in the last eight (?) years due to division of control. The president either can't do much without a congress or just goes over congress to get stuff done. The better litmus test in recent years of what four years will bring is which party controls the senate and house. So honestly, will your life change by the man who's elected? Why or why not? (please don't devolve into a flame war)
