Election time
So, it's election time in Ontario on Thursday (but more importantly the start of Hockey) and I'm embarrassingly uninformed so I'm spending today doing a bit of research. Any two cents from my fellow Ontarians?

Pick one team to win straight up each week. You can't pick the same team more than once. Lose and you're out. PM me your pick by 12:30pm Sunday Toronto time, I'll cut off the picks at that time, and post a list. Good luck.

A suggestion for Kestas:
I think that we should have a record of how many people (But not their identity of course) have muted that person on their profile. It would have a similar reasoning to that of the +1 button, in order for users to see what sort of behaviour is and isn't accepted by the community to promote self-moderation.

@ Sarg

I really feel I must strongly say that that sort of shit certainly does not happen everywhere. I know you've suffered under Lib Dem brainwashing for a fair few years now, but you must have some sense of reality left in you. A place where people walk past a dead man without raising so much as an eyebrow is the very definition of shite.

Just to show how insane I think our conversation is, lets use the world of cooking (hey, why not?). Imagine a rather nice stew simmering away on the stove. Someone comes in and adds half a kilogram of salt. I taste it and say "this is a pretty salty stew", to which you reply "Salt gets added everywhere, it doesn't mean the meal itself is salty. That's just a stupid exaggeration" No, it ain't. It's pretty salty because of the massive amount of salt that just went in.

...there was probably a better way of explaining that, but you get the gist
Sargmacher (0 DX)
27 Sep 11 UTC
No. I don't think you can compare an entire city and its inhabitants to one pot of stew.

Nice though the attempt was :)

Shit happens everywhere, London was plagued by riots - it doesn't mean London is "the definition of shite".
Sargmacher (0 DX)
27 Sep 11 UTC
Besides, you're condemning an entire city (an entire city!) on the account of one not wholly reliable (sorry, Santa) account.
Octavious (2701 D)
27 Sep 11 UTC
No... I think you'll find that London is indeed pretty shite. In fact, I have never in all my visits to the place left without a profound sense of relief
Sargmacher (0 DX)
27 Sep 11 UTC
Sigh. I can't tell if you're trying to be slightly sarcastic or if you really truly are wrapped in up in your own perception of the world without any space at all to allow for difference of belief.

"London is pretty shite". I accept that you might think that personally and naturally you are entitled to your own opinion. However, you should not convey your subjective opinion as fact.
Octavious (2701 D)
27 Sep 11 UTC
What I am saying is that a city in which that sort of thing can happen is a shite city. I am not saying that every part of the city is a sick hell hole, but I am saying that on the whole a place in which that sort of thing can happen is a shite place. And in what sense is Santa unreliable? It's not as if he's a Tettleton or a Maple, or even the rather scary man that Thucy has become.
Sargmacher (0 DX)

Octavious: "or even the rather scary man that Thucy has become."

Oh damn, I wanted to like that quote - but I can't 'like' my own posts. Grr.
Octavious (2701 D)
27 Sep 11 UTC
I'll like it for you ;)
Sargmacher (0 DX)
27 Sep 11 UTC
Santa is unreliable if you use him to condemn an entire city. That's unethical.

It's also slightly unethical to take as fact the events of this situation based only on one single person's account.

Maybe Santa was drunk (again, sorry Santa).
Maybe Santa likes to exaggerate and create stories that denigrate black people.
Maybe Santa was coming off another LSD trip and hallucinated the whole thing - maybe his city doesn't even have a hockey team.
Maybe Santa is completely wrong about the whole thing.

We just don't know - so, say if Santa comes from San Francisco, I'm not going to condemn the place just based on this thread. Shitty though the incident Santa describes is.

Ha, thanks :)
Octavious (2701 D)

Maybe you are right about all of those things, but it is just as likely that you are drunk or on drugs or just out to discredit the Lib Dems by acting like a total Lib Dem (ok... that last one doesn't really make sense... ignore it).

My point is that for any of these forum threads to carry any sort of meaning whatsoever, we have to take some things on faith.
oh no I absolutely agree Lopt, I'm just stunned it's working
Sargmacher (0 DX)
27 Sep 11 UTC
That's true - having faith I mean, not the wild accusations about me taking drugs and currently being drunk. I am not drunk. I am not.

Also, I'm not as much of a hard-nosed Lib Dem as you make out, I'm much more egalitarian in my political views than you give me credit for, due credit I might add).

also holy crap Sarg

this isn't making any judgment on what you're saying or devaluing anything you said but your post with all the maybes sounds exactly like my girlfriend talking to me about just about anything

I realize this is entirely irrelevant but I just thought you might like to know

if you help other people because you want to it feels great, and if everybody does that everybody can live happy AND feel great...
it really works, otherwise you can't sleep one day and kill yourself the other day...

Lopt, I agree with you, generally, but I must take exception to your dislike of interracial sex. This practice is hallowed by usage and consecrated by time.

Whenever the plantation owner was feeling aroused, he would select an item of his property, name her "Mary", and fuck her brains out. This is a fine american tradition, and as a grateful, respectful neighbour of the Divided States, I have adopted this tradition as my own. Let's face reality. Chicken George was WAY WAY smarter than Toby, and he cost the Massa nothing to purchase.

29 Sep 11 UTC
anyway, in my opinion it's about surviving in the first place but i don't see how poking a sleeping homeless guy is helping in surviving...
and the surviving part isn't that hard for Lopt, for example...
and the feeling of helping other people is great, and if you help with huge things people owe you a favor and if you live your life like that you can fight of any maffia when it comes to you with the friends you made...
maybe not but the chance is bigger...
