Sounds perfect! Unfortunately I am in too many other games now. I hope you do another high point WTA non-anon game in the near future.

I know I won't until September or October, and I'm not sure how many djbent will do in the near future either, better scrape together a few points quickly and get into this one! ;-)

Actually I dont even have enough points for you high rollers anyway.

But I do want to state for the record that non-anon is better, in my opinion, for 3 reasons:

1. In the anon games, everyone figures out who everyone else is anyway, but they waste a lot of needless energy doing it.
2. In a high roller game, anyone could be a potential target. I disagree that only MM or Dunecat would get targeted. Why not that brilliant Wizard? Why not target the person with the lowest number of points, like me, who you could take out more easily?
3. With non-anon, you know who you are talking to, you can sense whether they will be a reliable trustworthy ally, or whether they are lying through their teeth. Think about a FTF tournament-you even see theri facial expresions and their body language. Its already very anon on the web even in a standard game.

Thats just my two cents worth.

I know why anon is preferred. I know how Marx plays, I know how Ivo plays, I know how djbent plays (surprisingly all similar, though Marx plays it turn by turn while the other two plan further out). I know who I can trust in alliances, and I know who will stab me when they get a good opportunity.

The disadvantage of these high cost games are that we all know one another.
This is why I try to play each game differently. I hope to have that aura of unpredictability. But I guess that is just as much boon as a disadvantage...

Anon means lack of trust all around and unfamiliarity. Which means more caution and less possibility of people budding up when they know one another.

And I'm TERRIBLE at figuring out people in anon. People usually figure me out by my use of ellipsis (...), though I'm learning to talk differently in anon, now.

It's a good discussion, but I'll not muddy up this thread with it anymore. :)

Any interest in establishing a... I hate to use the word "league", but a high pot 'schedule' along with a list of those that wish to participate.

That way, we can have an idea of a pot, turn length, etc..., and have a date that will start the next one.

As far as a high pot schedule... I'm the type to take it one game at a time, not sure what the future holds, but thanks for the offer! I'm open to a high pot game in Sept/Oct, but even that is just wishful thinking this far in advance, at least for me.

Yeah, dave had a great idea, if Crazy really wants to play, she should join one live WTA game every day, increasing the pot size if needed, until she has the points.

and I agree with fk on the anon issue - I always have a suspicion that ppl like bent or MM will stab me because they see me as a potential stabber, so then I have to over-calculate or compensate or be extra nice only to get stabbed even worst...

it just seems better to know I'm playing 6 other good players and not have to worry about the politics ;)

Also, on one hand, I completely agree with you Babak, about not having to worry about the politics. BUT, in the end, it's just a game and just for fun and there's no need to put so much pressure on doing well in every game. I'm fully expecting to donate all of my wagered points to others in this game and I have no problem with it, as djbent said, it's "gonna be great" and life's too short to not have fun playing a game with people you have grown to know a little bit and even like! This game will be exponentially better with you in it, Babak, which is the case with all that have signed up so far, feel free to throw caution to the wind and have a little bit of fun with us, I'm betting it'll be well worth it.

When I look at the people that have posted in this thread. .... I have point envy.

FYI - Not sure when DaveH will decide if he will join, I've PM'd him, but I'd like to get this going first thing Tuesday morning, so I'll send out the password to DaveH and Babak if I have not heard back by then and it will become first come first served.

If there's any chance we could delay the start to Friday, that would be great, as I'll have little internet access from Tuesday-Friday, and the opening year when alliances are made is often very costly to miss out on. But if not, the 50 hour turns should rescue me from such a problem.

Regarding this idea of a high-pot 'league----ish thingy' I did consider doing a kind of Grand Prix system that could allow normal, non-tourney games to be more significant. It could be split up into different point levels (so there's a 500+ bet level etc.), plus a live games one too.

It would require some more thinking about to develop, however, and I haven't the time right now. It would also take some coding to be reasonable to carry out.

If you want to discuss any ideas you have please do, though a new thread would be a good idea.

Waiting until Friday is like waiting until the Monday after that since djbent has limited access on weekends, which means we should wait to see if V+ wants to join... Hopefully Dunecat does get his anon game going, it will reduce some confusion. DaveH and V+ both prefer anon, so they could joine Dunecat and me in that game, while Babak could slide in as our seventh in here. We'll just play it by ear for now and see how this shakes out, it's anybody's guess at the moment.

i don't see any particular rush to start the game, aside from having fun sooner :)

but i am concerned dave, if you have limited internet access during the week, and i generally don't get online on the weekends, that might not be the best combination. can you clarify your statement there?
