Also the very best games i've had have been high stakes WTA non-anon; so you're really playing for points, it doesn't matter that beating the higher GR player will gain more GR points because this was before i had heard of the GR system; and the players with more points are considered to be bigger threats but also prove to have the diplomatic skills to not simply be ganged up upon...

Still i'm out, i dislike anon just that much.

I think of Tall poppy as being people ganging up on the guy with the highest ranking just because of his ranking but I agree non-anon is more fun.

I'd be keen to play, if you guys will take a relative newbie to this site .... would make a welcome change from games where England and Russia are in civil disorder from the start (and I'm not Germany).

I'm happy with 143 but I don't want to scare people off if the cost is too high. I'll be screening everybody before sending passwords but the only thing I'm looking for is to make sure they don't have left/resigns in their game histories and don't look like multis.

I'm sorry Venemous, I'm a relative newbie myself games wise and wouldn't hold that against anyone but you've had 2 resigns in 3 months and CDs totally ruin the game.

Good old lies, lies and damn statistics - the problem is that they don;t have context and don't tell the full story ......

One of those resignations was a live game which started after I'd logged off - I wasn't aware of the gamestart clock at the time and if you look at the game, you'll see that I was one of 5 who never started the game so there was something obviously strange about the game settings (I think it was a live game set to start in 6 hours or something and didn't start immediately once it was full).

The other resignation was a live game where I played it out a very good and enjoyable game for several hours but missed the last couple of turns at the end on one centre when the result was a foregone conclusion and I let the remaining players know that I had to leave (and I really, really had to leave, I'd stretched my time as far as I could already - otherwise, I would have played it out for another 10 minutes).

I've created the game going with my Dr Seuss theme it was meant to be called "From there to here from here to there funny stabs are everywhere" but the last bit got cut off. Oh well we still get the funny stabs.

Because you asked if it sounded better. Isn't that a question of opinion? I prefer PPSC games over WTA.

i am still a big WTA fan, i don't see why you would want to play ppsc, it is only good for players who like to gain a lot with an ally but lose the game... ppsc can at its worst leave several powers unable to achieve anythign due to the overwhelmingly powerful alliance they are facing - i think this alliance should be able to claim an earlier victory maybe once they have 2/3s of the SC (not any 18 SC alliance claiming victory...) but it is not in the interest of the ppsc players to claim that victory - they are better off going on to wipe out their opponents and claiming all the SC. If you could claim an allied victory (WTA style points divided between the alliance) then it might work better than ppsc does at present.

Seeing as you're screening for resigns, I do have 3, but they are all from live gunboat games where I had but one or so units left, and figured I was eliminated and went to go have a beer. :)

The thing is...it is not only about you (being eliminated or not)... it's about the commitment with others that you should have : to start and finish the game.
You realize that even with 1 or 2 units left, if you don't input orders you can make the game unbalanced...?

Ok, I've sent the password out to Orathaic, Plastic Hussar and doofman. Sorry Jack_Klein but the whole giving up when you only have one or two units left thing has a bigger impact on games than you might realise.

Troodonte, I'm assuming you weren't interested in playing but to answer your question, I prefer PPSC for several reasons. The main reason people say they prefer WTA is to stop people throwing the game to get a few more points than they would've for a draw. While I can imagine that happening with newer players I honestly can't imagine a highly ranked player doing anything that crazy. I have more reasons but my kids are climbing all over me atm demanding to be fed so I can't type for a while.

They are actually really good kids as long as I'm doing what I'm told :)
